The Indians recalled UW-La Crosse outfielder Vinny Rottino for the second time this season.

The Cubs recalled Alvernia catcher Anthony Recker. Recker becomes the 10th D-III player on current MLB rosters.

Brandeis pitcher Nelson Figueroa was named the Triple-A International League Pitcher of the Week for games ending Sept. 3.

Anthony Recker belted his first major league home run in the Cubs' win over the Pirates yesterday.

Mlb.com named Old Westbury pitcher Robert Whitenack the No. 13 prospect in the Cubs organization. Whitenack was the only D-III player to make any organization's top 20.

The Nationals assigned Centenary (N.J.) pitcher Cole Kimball to the Arizona Fall League (Salt River Rafters). Kimball (shoulder) spent most of the season on the MLB 60-day disabled list.

The Diamondbacks recalled Linfield/Oregon State pitcher Joe Paterson. That gives D-III a season-high 11 players in MLB.

The Tigers acquired Frostburg State pitcher Greg Ross as the player to be named for outfielder Jeff Baker. Ross was in the Braves organization.

Changes to the entries on the master list for Texas Tyler's Logan Chitwood, North Park's Mike Giovenco, Birmingham-Southern's Drew Leachman, Marietta's Tim Saunders, Randolph-Macon's Jordan Walton and Wartburg's Brad Watson were due to affiliate changes.

Trinity-TX/Chapman/UC Santa Barbara second baseman Ryan Cavan won a Gold Glove. Rawlings awards one Gold Glove at each position for the entire minor leagues. Cavan plays for Richmond, the Double-A affiliate of the Giants.

Eastern Mennonite catcher Erik Kratz played a role in a 2012 MiLBY Awards nominee. Kratz started a triple play for Triple-A Lehigh Valley (Phillies).

The Diamondbacks released Williams pitcher Harry Marino, Keystone catcher Bryan Henry, Huntingdon first baseman Miles Walding and Keystone infielder Eric Groff.

UW-La Crosse outfielder Vinny Rottino, Grove City pitcher Erik Arnesen, DeMark and Figueroa are minor league free agents.

UW-Whitewater's Rob Coe signed as a pitcher with the Diamondbacks. Coe, a pitcher and catcher at UWW, was a starting pitcher for the St. Paul Saints in 2012. Baseball America named Coe the No. 8 prospect in the independent leagues for the 2012 season.

He didn't play for the D-III version of the program, but Birmingham-Southern pitcher Brandon Hynick (drafted in 2006) signed a MiLB free agent deal with the Angels.
