Guilford and HSC both got their 20th wins tonight (20-4).  I really don't mind RMC and HSC being ahead of GCQ in the regional rankings, but Emory bugs me a bit.  The Eagles are 15-7 and the Quakers beat them by 15 in Atlanta.

BTW, the Guilford women are 20-4 also, so the two hoops squads are 40-8 (.833).  Not too shabby.

Now THATS the RMC team I'm used to seeing!! Nice job Gentlemen!! Now on to Ragan-Brown and a HUGE game at Guilford!! I love their announcers!! Ours are the BEST, but these guys are top notch too!!
The Quakers trailed Lynchburg 31-27 late in the first half, but tied it at 31 at the break.  I know Guilford led by 21 or so a couple of times in the 2nd half, so maybe Tom (Palombo) had an inspired halftime message.  We have Ferrum at home Wednesday and then welcome RMC to Ragan-Brown for a doubleheader.
I know.  They've upset us before.   A classic trap game.

Beware of Ferrum. They aren't deep, but they have the #1 and #4 scorers in the conference and gave H-SC a good game yesterday.

Also of note, RMC is 61-2 in ODAC conference play over the last 5 years (undefeated in the last three seasons).  Those two losses were to GC, at Guilford.  (Just giving Hasa some ammo.)  Other than GC, a lot of ODAC players never beat RMC in their careers.  (Just waiting for some more smites.)
The Guilford fans are well aware that those two losses came in Ragan-Brown.  Adding to the excitement this year on Feb. 18, it will be a double header against RMC with the women playing at 2 pm and the men at 4:30 pm ... plus Guilford will honor the 1973 NAIA National Championship team on its 50th Anniversary.  There were three future NBA players on that team with M.L. Carr and Lloyd (World B.) Free still surviving and expected to attend.  For these reasons, as well as Senior Day, it will be very well attended.

As we approach the end of the regular season, there are three tiers in the ODAC standings, RMC/RC/HSC/GC in the top tier; five in the middle at about .500; and four clearly in the bottom tier (only beating each other).  I got to believe that RMC is in the NCAA regardless, with RC/HSC/GC fighting for what I hope are two NCAA slots with HSC currently in the better position.  Key to this competition will be if either or both RC or GC can get a win over RMC at the end of the regular season.  A win by either team will give them a leg up entering the ODAC tourney.
I've thought about this myself over the last month or so.  There are clearly three tiers in the league.  The ODAC tournament is fraught with danger for the Top Tier, but hope the ODAC can send at least three squads to the NCAA tournament.

Three ODAC teams in this week's Top 25 plus a 4th receiving votes:

RMC #2
Guilford #14
HSC # 25
Roanoke RV
#37
Currently, Guilford is now the #1 team in D3 in defensive ppg.  The Quakers moved from #2 to first with last week's 50 and 47 against Roanoke and Virginia Wesleyan, respectively.  Those two games dropped the Quakers from 54.6 to 53.9 (970/18 games).

I often like a great offensive shoot-out, but I have to say the 2022-23 Quakers come after you on Defense for the full 40 minutes.  It's fun to watch a great defensive effort as well!

Another stellar defensive effort by the Quakers in a nice road win over VWC, 65-47.  A big test Wednesday at HSC as the Quakers travel to Farmville.
That should be an excellent game Hasa! If your Quakers can pull out a convincing win they will climb significantly in the polls!
I never look past HSC, especially with Coach Kimbrough having played for Coach Palombo!

Also of note, Mallory tied the ODAC career block record with GC great, Ben Strong.  Will likely break the record on Saturday,  and doing it with a short 12 game season during Covid.
Congratulations.  Anyone who breaks one of Ben's records has had a fine career.
Anyone who has followed R-MC and Miles Mallory will attest to the fact that in  most of his blocks he seems to come from nowhere to do it! Hes kind of a finesse player inside, unlike other R-MC big men like Jesse Hellyer, Jared Mills, or Brandon Braxton, who were a lot more on the physical side. Miles is even GRACEFUL, if thats the correct word. He never seems out of position and times it perfectly, and also doing it without fouling most of the time. Hes going to go down as one of the all time greats in Yellow Jacket history, and hes one of the quietest, most even keeled young men personally as I've ever met. Nothing ever seems to phase him- he has the same expression on his face whether he just got beat inside or he just schooled someone himself- just a nice  quiet young man that can flat out play ball!
I look forward to seeing him play on Feb. 18.

Looking at tonight's slate, the RC/GC contest is clearly the marquee game.  Any thoughts from the RC/GC crowd?
Both teams played good defense tonight, but GC was better.  In fact, the Maroons were held to 19 1st half points.  GC led 29-19 at the half.  The 2nd half was 32-31 GC, but Roanoke was only able to draw within 6.

Huge 61-50 win for the Quakers.  Someone at the game said Guilford leads DIII in lowest defensive ppg.  Is this true?

Close. They are second: https://www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-men/d3
Thanks.  The Quakers are surrendering 54.6 ppg through 16 games (873/16), so last night's 50 by Roanoke should lower it to 54.3 ppg (923/17).

^^^ That game was everything everyone hoped and expected it would be. Guilford did a really effective job guarding Miles Mallory, holding him to 2-10 from the floor and six rebounds, only one offensive. The Jackets still found a way to win. Three-point shooting was identical, both teams making 10 of 24. The Jackets made one more free throw and one more two point basket to win 59-56.

R-MC has another really tough one vs CNU on Wednesday. The rest of ODAC play will be daunting, especially the rematch at Guilford in the final regular season game.
I didn't get to watch yesterday, but was being updated by other alums.  Sounds like we just couldn't hold a late lead.  Should be a great ODAC season.

After a fast start by HSC at home, the Jackets took over defensively and held on for a 79-67 win. Mikes Mallory with yet another Double Double and 4 players in double figures for the Jackets. Huge game at home Saturday vs Hasa's Quakers!! Gotta keep driving! I have to say I liked the old HSC announcers better than the current ones- all they seem to wanna do is gripe about the officiating! I realize the fouls looked one sided but it wasn't as bad as they made out....
Nervously waiting for this one tomorrow ... should be a stern test for both teams!
