How has no one scooped up the Board name "Midd 9-0" yet?

IMO, would be worth starting your board legacy from scratch to be able to have that moniker.

Devanney ranked higher than Dick Farley? Too bad ESPN doesn't take into account the low academic standards of Trinity
Dice Mafia coming in HOT!  ;D

Williams completely destroys amHurst today 31-9 with 345 yards on the ground, 38 minutes of possession versus 21 for the former lord jeffs, 24 first downs versus 11, etc.

Prior to the game amhurst grads posturing by playing down its significance, while amH63 stating a win would salvage/transform a mediocre season into something wonderful .... simply obsessed with Williams.

The Ephs seniors savior a second Walk in the past three years after going 0-8 their freshman year as pointed out by Spring St7 .... Memories lasting a lifetime, featured this past week on ESPN as the best post-game tradition in college football.

Coach Raymond is a prince of a guy .... and an extraordinarily effective coach with a terrific group of assistant coaches. More to come ....

Also, congratulations to Mid football for an outstanding season characterized by hard work and Panther Pride!

With as fantastic, awe inspiring and over powering as Williams, Amherst and Trinity are it's just a gosh darn miracle that Little ol'Wes beat all of them.  ;D ;D ;D

But they did. And it is sweet. 8 and 1

ROLL CARDS!!!

Speaking of unexpected....NO ONE predicted this kind of season for WES. And they are led by underclassmen at almost every key position. Great job Coach Dice...future is BRIGHT in Middletown!!!

It seems pretty clear to objective posters that, at this point in the season, Williams is the second best team in the league. I concede that Wes is ahead of Trinity at the moment, but also stand by my prediction from a few weeks back that the Cardinals could very likely end up 5-4.

Here's how I see the rankings:

1. Middlebury
2. Williams
3. Wesleyan
4. Trinity
    Amherst
6. Hamilton
    Tufts
8. Colby
9. Bates
10. Bowdoin

Hs5-3, since you seem to like history lessons, we thought it might be interesting to rehash one of your recent posts...we think it's safe to say that Wes won't be 5-4 in 2019, even using the new math that they teach at Hartford State....
I have never been accused of being objective.
GO WES!!!

Unbelievably frustrating game for the Ephs.  I think there were five different plays Williams could have put the game away as they dominated most of the game.  But kept stalling out in Wesleyan territory, and gave up two massive plays in the first half, including a kick return TD.  And just could not close it out despite so many chances to do so.  A blocked field goal that would have sealed the win.  An utterly ridiculous phantom holding call that ended up costing Williams a very likely, game-determinative TD as they would have had the ball at the goalline. But in the end, Wesleyan had an absolutely massive clutch drive to tie the game in the fourth quarter, including a huge fourth down conversion.  After getting to the passer all game, the Eph pass rushers seem to have run out of steam.  Headed to OT ....

Both Maimaron and Scott have been tremendous today.  But for a few dropped passes Scott would be having a massive day.   Maimaron also not gotten nearly enough help from his receivers.  Sure look like the two best QBs in NESCAC.  Where the heck is Stola?  Not sure if he's getting doubled or what but barely targeted at all.

Quite something hearing Whalen on the color.  He's awesome, like NFL caliber as an analyst, and incredibly candid in his assessment of his team's players.  He's been pretty harsh on Taj Gooden, who seems to have been benched after a personal conduct penalty.  Even without him, Wes dline has really stepped up late in the game after being pushed around for most of the second half.

Funny how Wes' defense gets no credit for all those "stalled drives" by the Ephs. LOL

BIG WIN WES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess the better team lost today too, huh.
Always love that line.

Hoping little brother's team beats older brother's team.
Go WES!!!

Can't fly up from Florida to watch the game and hang with my big boys because I am coaching their 13 year old younger brother in our Pop Warner league championship Saturday!

NbN's Midd/Wes preview notes that Cosolito and Maldjian should be back, with no word on Woodring. Sounds like MidDay has the scoop as well.

As for the game itself, I really have no idea. It feels like Middlebury is beyond due for a loss, they keep winning games that on paper they should not be winning--outgained by Trinity and Williams, 6 turnovers against Amherst, and the well documented nail biter against Colby. But at the same time, there is something to be said for that. Jernigan just has a knack for the big play in the big moment, a swagger that no one else seems to have an answer for. Wesleyan is definitely an interesting stylistic matchup--the turnover numbers as compared to Midd's are especially eye-popping. I just don't think a 20-13 win over a pretty average Tufts team, that outplayed them for the majority of the game, all of a sudden answers any questions about them as a football team. Feel like you have to lean Middlebury.

Spring, did you watch the Wes/Tufts game last week? Yes, Tufts clearly won the first half but the Cards came to play in the second half out scoring the Jumbo's 20-3, forcing the Jumbo's to go three and out on their first 3 possessions of the second half, not allowing 1 first down in the 3rd quarter and only 4 in the whole second half. So to say that Tufts outplayed Wes for the "majority of the game" is just blatantly false. Minus K to you for blatant fake news...

Agree. WES had sustained drives whereas Tufts was shut down other then 1-2 desperation passes to keep alive a couple of drives. WES owned the second half of that game in all 3 phases.

Hoping to see Middlebury "outplay" the Cards and WES being 6-0 at the end of the day.

WES 4-0

Preseason officially over.....
Time to see if the Cards can hang.

What's your prediction on their finish?

Wes' defense is stout and the stength of the squad, it is just hard to replace an all conference, do everything QB in Picarillo. And the little I have been able to discern from watching the Card's on offense it appears that a lot of what they do is determined by how the QB reads the defense and takes what they are giving. A system that would benefit from experience and struggle with the lack of it. I guess that is the case with all positions, but this offense really relies on how the QB reads what the defense presents.

The schedule has been perfect for gaining experience. And the fact they struggled a little with Bowdoin, I feel was a good thing for them. Somewhat of a wake up call going into the meat of their schedule. I am hopeful they drop no more than 2 of their final 5. A 7-2 season would be a huge success for what many considered to be a rebuilding year in Middletown. I predict a 6-3 finish, with the catch being they are Little 3 Champs.

IslandTime...glad you got pass Dorian and got to Middletown!  Checked the Wes site.  Having cheerleaders helps the home crowd :). Just kidding.  Saw that Williams' soccer teams were playing nearby...adds to the atmosphere/crowd.  Assume you will be up for the Amherst vs Wes Homecoming game.  Drop by my class tent or the Cage afterwards to say hi and meet my family..finally.  Plenty of goodies to be found :).  Till then...may both teams meet undefeated!
Will definitely seek you out Amh63 when Wes travels up for the Amherst HC.  Have thoroughly enjoyed your contributions to this site since my oldest became a Lord Jeff and then almost immediately a Mammoth LOL  :-X

So besides Wesleyan's game against Colby yesterday, Wes's freshman class got to also enjoy a scrimmage today against Bridgeport Prep. Tons of valuable reps for the young Cardinal first years and a few upper class men that filled in the gaps. Was a great weekend of football.

My oldest was able to participate his freshman year at Amherst 3 years ago in what were labeled "JV" games against both Williams and Wesleyan. His first solo tackle as a Lord.....Mammoth against Williams resulted in a completely dislocated pinky. He came off the field...Coach Bussard popped it back in place and sent him back on the field. Finger better.....but now with nausea due to seeing his fingers pointed in directions he didn't know possible.

Ahhhhh..... ya gotta love football !!!

I believe Williams and Amherst no longer wanted to continue the Little 3 "JV" games so Coach DiCenzo has found a couple willing schools close to Middletown. I think this is a great thing for the development and confidence of the young players who are working hard but won't see much field time during real games for a year or two.
