National champion Cortland welcomes Hilbert into conference play in RDragons' '24 season opener Sept. 7 in Hamburg. Third-year program, Hilbert looking for first win in 15 starts.
  Cortland home opener following week vs. Lycoming, then journey to Susquehanna -- lone eleven to trip Red & White last fall. Those non-conference foes followed by Empire dates with Morrisville (h), Utica (a), Alfred (a), St. John Fisher (h), Hartwick (h) and Brockport (a). Cortaca finale Nov. 16 at C-State.

Cortland on Tuesday stops Oneonta 6-5 concluding weather delayed three game conference sweep in balmy mid-50s weather. W. McCarthy (WP, 6inn, 3h, 1r, 0er, 2bb, 5k, 70p) departs with 4-0 lead. Four pitchers later CSt hangs on. G. Mays in the ninth strands tying run on second base for the save (1.2inn, 2h, 1r, 1er, 3k, 26p). Corts builds 6-1 advanage in the seventh on N. Marola leadoff homer and M. Kelly sac fly. Host OSt quickly responds with J. Gilkey and L. Kaseta rbi hits. L. Hutter (2x4) rbi single brings Oneonta within run in the eighth. Oneonta with 9-5 hit edge. K. Rosenberg LP (1inn, 1h, 3r, 2er, 1bb, 1k, 29p). Corts 6-5-2, One 5-9-1.

  Cortland on cold Monday takes pair from Oneonta. L. Misla hurls masterful 4-1 opening three-hit win. Works the distance on 120p with 13ks, 2bb. His side strikes twice in the first inning on D. Mackenzie rbi single and first/third double steal. J. Dwyer slices lead in half with leadoff second inning home run for Oneonta. Ninth inning Cortland insurance arrives on four walks and hit batter. Marola double drives in pair for 6-6 tie. C. Bonacci double plates go-ahead mark and M. Bruno double clears packed sacks. L. Schartner 3x4, 3r, bi, 2bh. Z.     Fredonia at Brockport never do get conference series underway. Tuesday bid in Niagara Falls ppd. Will try next Tuesday.

Am aware ...top of the page. Basketball, football, etc. fine ......But for baseball all we see is National topics, Open dates and under Sub-boards Pro ball, Awards, 2010 season, Historical/statistical archives ....

Plattsburgh divides Friday conference twinbill at cold New Paltz. Host Hawks take 12-2 opener behind 21 hits, scoring 10 runs over final three acts of eight inning scrap. T. Kreider 4x5, 2r, 2bi, bb. X. Zykoff WP (7inn, 6h, 0r, 0bb, 5k, 104p).Pburgh 21-4 winner in seven inning nightcap. Bangs 21 hits led by K. Cremin 3x5, 3r, 7bi, 2 hr. Cremin with three homers on the day and reaches 100 hit career mark.

Cortland and Oneonta will wait till Monday to get weather weary series underway. Now a DH in Oneonta

Spring has sprung ... has it ever!! As in sprung a leak. Cold weather plays havoc with upcoming conference starts.
  BUT Plattsburgh and New Paltz move series start to Thursday when Burgh outruns homestanding Paltz 16-11. Cardinals with 14-7 lead thru seven innings. N. Corgol heads attack (3x6, 3r, 5bi, 2 2bh, hr). K. Mordecki WP (6inn, 7h, 5r, 4er, 2bb, 2k). Harvey boys spark NP: Justin (3x5, 2r, 3bi, 2bh, hr), Nick (2x4, 2r, 3bi, hr, sf). J. Will LP. Pburgh 1-0, 10-3 overall; NP 0-1, 6-6.
  Playing DH Friday in mid-30s temps.

  Friday's 6-8-1 Cortland at 7-7 Oneonta and 4-6 Fredonia at 8-3 Brockport ppd.
  Cortland and Oneonta try for Sunday DH and Monday single game. Freds at Bport DH Sunday, single Monday all at Rochester Monroe CC.

Cortland absorbs 10-3 Saturday setback to Chapman CA to windup seven game California journey. In host's Orange CA ballpark, Chapman Panthers swat three home runs to bring in six of their first seven runs. Four-run fourth inning opens the scoring. N. Plue two-run homer brings RDragons within 4-2 in the fifth. Panthers tally three times in  fifth and seventh bats. Nine Dragons have one hit each. CSt sends seven to the pitching slab. W. Cortland outlasts Chapman CA 5-2 Friday in 11 innings for second straight win over the 22nd ranked Panthers. Pair collide Saturday as RDragons' western swing draws to a close. C. Bonacci one-out walk gets Cortland rolling in the 11th. With two outs, N. Chemotti singles to right, M. Bruno lines go-ahead rbi single to center and D. Mackenzie delivers two-run single to right. Meanwhile, reliever M. Nochowicz hurls three shutdown innings to close (WP, 3inn, 1h, 3k, 31p) to complete sharp mound performances from L. Misla (7inn, 5h, 2r, 1er, 4bb, 6k, 102p); G. Mays .1inn; Z. Zarrilli .2inn.

Cortland halts four game winless skid with 6-4 beating of 22nd ranked Chapman Panthers on Thursday night in Orange CA. Four-run fifth inning carries RDragons. Snaps 1-1 tie on two-out D. Mackenzie and N. Smith rbi singles followed by M. Kelly long two-run triple to center. D. Beers serves up sold six innings (4h, 1r, 1er, 2bb, 6k, 94p) and D. Georgetti saves it (3inn, 3h, 3r, 3er, 1bb, 6k, 58p). Chapman rally snuffed in the eighth. Gets first three batters aboard and all score but Georgetti winds up fanning the side. Cortland plays 7-7 10-inning tie at La Verne CA on Tuesday, Impending darkness halts play. Outhit 14-7, RDragons with three safeties in first inning for two runs. On C. Bonacci misplayed inside-the-park home run in the fourth hold 5-3 lead. Tied 5-5 into the eighth, bases loaded walk provides La Verne Leopards 6-5 lead. CSt with 7-6 ninth inning reversal thanks to run-producing fielding miscue and D. Mackenzie sac fly. Run-scoring double to left knots it for Leopards in their ninth. Bonacci and J. Munoz two hits each for Dragons.
   Cortland 4-7-1 and falls from this week D3 Media Top 25. La Verne 7-3-1 and 14th in poll.
   Corts with Thurs\Fri\Sat dates with 22nd ranked Chapman in Orange CA

Cortland on Sunday fails to finish and winds up being swept at Cal Lutheran by 6-5 verdict to wrap up three game series. RDragons in 5-4 control from the fourth inning until WILD ninth inning end -- literally. Errant pitches score Lutheran tying and winning runs! C. Bonacci homer with mate aboard helps Cortland forge early game edge. Relievers D. Georgetti (4.2inn) and C. Darrow (3.1inn) hold off potent Kingsmen cast whose top five hitters in the batting order go 13x24 and score all six runs. Dragons with nine hits ...JJ DeLawder 2x3 2 2bh, bb; N. Smith 2x4, bi; D. Mackenzie 2x4; Bonacci 1x3, 2r, 2bb, hr. G. Mays LP (.1, 2h, r, er,bb, 2wp).

Cortland falls 4-2 at Cal Lutheran in Saturday's second game of three game series concluding Sunday. Hosts break 1-1 tie with two-run seventh and add a score in the eighth. RDragons strike for single runs in the sixth (D. Mackenzie rbi double) and eighth (JJ DeLawder sac fly). Cals post first inning run off W. McCarthy (6inn, 4h, 1r, 1er, 4k) via hit batter, sac bunt, passed ball and sac fly. Cortland manages two of its five hits in the first inning without doing damage. D. Beers LP (1+inn, 5h, 3r, 3er, 1k); N. Bonacci 2x4, DeLawder 2x3, bi, sf. Cortland 2-5-0, CL 4-9-0.

Mackenzie and JJ DeLawder rbi single in the third inning. L. Misla (LP, 4.1inn, 1h, 34, 2er, 3bb, 6k) holds 2-1 edge into host Kingsmen fifth frame when he exits following two walks. Relievers falter. Yield four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth. Mackenzie 3x3, bi; DeLawder 3x5, 2bi; D. Tierney 2x2, bi; M. Bruno 2x4, 2r. Cortland 4 errors.
    Cortland 4-5 and Sat/Sun at 7-3 Cal Lutheran. Dragons 20th in this week's D3 media Top 25 poll. 

    Oneonta on Friday at home whips Elmira 11-4 to square record at 4-4. Loses season opening four game series at Willamette OR.

Cortland kayos Elmira 10-4 in Sunday schedule home addition. Replaces weathered out two-game trip to Kean NJ. Eight-run sixth inning the difference against Soaring Eagles who thru five innings hold 3-1 lead on N. Lees (later hit another) and C. Stone home runs. RDragons send dozen to the plate in decisive sixth. M. Bruno double to left opens assault featuring JJ DeLauder two-run double to right, M. Kelly two-run single to center and Bruno bases loaded clearing double. Bruno (3x4, 2r, 4bi) began Cortland scoring with first inning solo home run to center. Six Dragon pitchers yield seven hits, record 15 strikeouts. L. Misla starts (2inn, 4k). T. Lynch (2inn) WP. Eagles use three hurlers after J. Finnerty (3inn). J. Polest LP.
