The South is so geographically dispersed that it is hard to assess the various teams.  We are still four weeks away from the first release of the Regional Rankings.

I have started this thread to give us a chance to learn what is happening in the various conference races. As the Regional rankings are released, then we can comment on them.  When the playoffs come, we can continue the discussions here, also.

Great idea. I hope the ASC gets some respect when the rankings do come out.

The ASC has one more weekend (1-2 games) of full inter-divisional crossover play.

On the East, UT-Dallas, UT-Tyler and LeTourneau have joined Mississippi College as the premier teams.  UOzarks has four solid seniors, each of whom scored in double figures in a 82-79 loss.  Even Louisiana College has a great contender for player of the year in Josh Johnson.  Finally, ETBU lurks in the spoiler role.

Current records in the ASC-East...  Key games are noted.

Ralph, I'm not sure if Trinity's loss to UW-Stevens Point is an in-region loss.  I had Trinity with a 6-0 record against other South Region Teams.

Yes, Trinity and UW-SP are in Administrative Region #4 (TX, OK, MO, IL, WI and westward.)

There are four components to "in-region".

1) New legislation (later this year) will automatically make conference games in-region in all sports.  (This has been an issue in some sports for multi-region conferences.)
2) In the respective Evaluation Regions (TU is in the South).
3) The 200-mile radius rule.
4) Administrative Regions.

As always, check the Handbook;)

Awesome, that clears things up. Thanks!

Not nearly as much as dumping the increasingly irrelevant "in-region" v. "out-of-region" distinction.   :P

Ralph, thanks for doing the homework and putting all of this together.  This makes it easy for the rest of us junkies!

Now all I need is for some posters from the east side of the region to start their comments!  ;)

I don't know much about some of these teams.  I've heard that LeTu is pretty tough this year.  What's their story?  I don't remember the last time LeTu was one of the top teams in the region.

Ralph Turner

Okay South Region fans, Trinity dodged a bullet at Southwestern tonight.   >:(
