😳😳😳😳😳 looks like the odds maker was wayyy off.

IWU and Fontbonne are rolling.

Yep, tough night for the bookie... couldn't even pick the winners!!!!!  (But A for effort!)
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Some call him Coach Barber.  Others call him Professor.  Academics probably call him Dr. Barber, but soon the citizenry of Greenville will call him Mr. Mayor.  Congratulations Coach!!!

I assumed incorrectly that the SLIAC conference tourney would be a Friday-Saturday tourney at top seed Blackburn......    WRONG

Likely to keep too much activity from occurring in one location... Semis are tonight, Thursday at the 1 and 2 seed locations...

IWU at BC
Font at GU

Good luck to all....

I am looking forward to the Semi's tonight.

FU @ GU
History:
- GU and FU first played on 2/8/1996 (GU won 75-72)
- GU leads the overall series 29 - 24

Game notes from the first match up of the 2021 season:
- FU beat GU at FU by 18 early in the SLIAC season
- FU finished extremely well. (slashed 72.8/62.5/56).  Guards finished everything.  And Coddington didn't miss from the field (10/10).
- GU shot very poorly (slashed 40.2/32.8/50) compared to a SLIAC shooting slash of (44.7/35.9/64.4)
- GU turned it over 26 times compared to 32 for FU (GU only +6 in TO margin will not get it done for GU)
- GU was good on its rebounding #s.  They offensively rebounded 21 of their 64 misses.  This is right on their goal number for System success.

I think that GU and Fontbonne will have a classic Semifinal game.

As the board is likely aware, these two teams seem have remarkable games when they match up.

Some of which come to mind are the following:

2/28/98 GU (5 seed) beats FU (7 seed) to win the Conference Tournament Championship. 80-79 final.
Game was at HJ.  It was CRAZY.  Fontbonne HC Lee McKinney contemplated filing formal protest but chose not to. Nick Reich with the steal and layup with virtually no time left in the game to seal (or steal) the win.

1/24/04 GU wins 120 - 117 (3OT)

2/18/04 FU wins 114 -107 (OT)
The likelihood of two games of this completive caliber being played by two teams in the same season does not seem real.  Remember these scores were generated LONG before GU began running the system.

2/2/19 - Moon shot game - GU wins 200-146 (like it or not, it is an all-time game)

12/14/19 - Fontbonne wins 142-129 (What a amazing response to the Moonshot game.  Even as an ardent GU guy, I loved this from FU.)

2/1/20 - GU wins 155-149 (OT)

2/27/20 - GU wins 164-148 in Conference Tournament semi's
GU's bench went for 106.  Austyn Contreras alone had 41 on 16 shots.  Fontbonne had two team technical fouls (As you may recall 2020 was the year that technical fouls were a league emphasis)  :)

With the scene shifting to HJ Long. I have GU by 5 in 2 OTs.

Lopsided win for Fontbonne, yet another squeaker for Blackburn...

Hard to root against either of these teams..

Fontbonne, after playing so poorly in the first half of the season (and incurring the wrath of hopefan), now has it together, playing at the level their talent indicates they should be playing at.... I have a favorite player on this team, possibly unsung by many, I won't jinx him, hoping he's recognized during all-conference time...

And Blackburn...clearly coach and team of the year.. out of nowhere... 8-1....5 of 8 wins by 5 points or less...

Good luck to both teams and congrats for reaching the conference finals.....

You cannot predict anything based on one game and definitely not a game against Greenville, but how about sophomore Carter Collins scoring 27 points and 12 points in 13 minutes?

Not basketball related, but congratulations to Webster's Will Hocker on becoming the men's individual D3 golf champion. He shot 2 over par for 72 holes to win by 2 strokes. As a team Webster made the 36 hole cut and finished tied for 15th.
