Will keep him in my prayers.
One other thing, looking towards next year, (long way away) with the win (and it was a very good game) maybe the "West" playoff champ will not face UWW in the quarter or semi-final game, maybe a Stagg Bowl game between UWW and the "West" champ-get ready UST, Linfield, Central.

Fixed it.

Yish, Sartell's getting throttled by Totino-Grace  :'(  Congrats to New London-Spicer for taking down Glencoe-Silver Lake!  That was an exciting game to watch!
Duffman,
Condolences on the Sartell game....still quite an accomplishment to reach the Prep Bow undefeated!
The Tommies were impressive today - they were dominant!!!  Celebrities in attendance (and I am certain there were more than this...) TDT, JJR, Dr. Dirk and yours truly.
Interesting than Morse played entire game at QB-Tracy may have been injured?
With all due respect to Linfield (and they deserve all due respesct), IF UST can run the ball like they did today, they are tough to beat.  Defense was also impressive.  AD/head BB Coach Fritz was taking it all in and enjoying himself in the SW corner of the stadium!!  Wonderfull weather - only thing I can think of that would have better better was playing the game in Collegeville....but I fear the results would have been similar....(perish that thought!!!)
Good luck to the Toms next week in the CatDome...where few opponents emerge alive!!!

That's correct - Brady's knee was a little banged up so they decided to go with Morse

Can't remember who recommended it, but I bought a case of Fat Tire for the Thanksgiving guests.  Delicious.  I wish I had a UST-SJU game to attend this saturday, sigh.

Head for the 1900 block of Grand Avenue and listen for the people having fun.  Not that you're invited, but you can drink a Fat Tire at the curbside and kinda pretend it's like the Stiftungfestivities. ;)

Of course you're invited!  Just listen for the noise and head on back... haha I can't guarantee our keg will be up to Fat Tire standards though...

Any tailgate parties this Saturday at Tommieland before the game?

Good one JJR, I haven't laughed that hard for a long time.  Anyone want to hazard a guess on the attendance?

A younger group of Tommie fans will be assembling at a household on the 1900 block of Grand Avenue Saturday morning... keg and grilling start at 9 a.m.  If you're in the area I'm sure you'll hear us from the street!

My assessment of the often mentioned "Tommie short field" argument brought up on the board:

Yes, the Tommies did benefit from two short fields (32 and 17 yards) on their scoring drives in Collegeville this year - but for those who were at the game, I'd argue that Tony Margarit was so wide open on his 32 yard catch that he'd have scored from just about anywhere on the field. The Tommies had a 60 yard drive that ended in a missed field goal, and let's also not forget that the Johnnies benefited from a short field after a fumble by a freshman in the return game for one of their two scores - and also had two interceptions gift-wrapped by Greg Morse (no longer starting).  Not to say that St. John's didn't come out as the better team that day - but I think any Tommie fan should feel confident that a rematch in Collegeville would be a very close, very exciting game.  That is, if we can get by Monmouth...

The weather is going to be good and the Tarter to Thomforde (Johnnie fans may remember him as the player who scored the game-tying touchdown against the J's back in '05) connection should be available.

It's amazing (and embarrassing) the straws you will grasp at in your desperate quest for relevancy.  Just think of how epic that 7-7 tie would have been if St. John's just wouldn't have scored those last 50 points...
That was my attempt to involve the Johnnies in the post (as I'm aware of who makes up the majority on the board), not to pump up Northwestern.   But now that you mention it, I do believe Thomforde is the best d3 receiver in the state.

Really?  I mean you play against Macalester type teams every week,  Vanderheyden would be a 1500 yard receiver, Overman would score 12 touchdowns...Waldvogel would take half his kick returns to the house...Velo at Bethel would be up for All American status.

Its kind of like when MIAC player of the week awards are handed out for perfomances against Macalester in non-conference games, there should be a HUGE * attached to them...look what reigning MIAC Offensive Player of the Week, Hamline's Tim Queck did against Mac...had 197 receiving yards on just five catches, including TD catches of 80 and 30 yards in Hamline's 38-6 win over Macalester

Do you sit there in your mom's basement just thinking of drivel to spray on the boards to infuriate others?  Is that your quest in life?  Time to readjust the priorities son...please.

Waldovegel took a punt and kickoff back for six today  ;D

C'mon guys, the Johnnies have now started 8-0 or better in 5 of the last 7 seasons, and they have looked better in every single other one than they have this year.  That doesn't mean I'm not happy about it, or that I don't hope they keep winning.  I just think the team has some pretty glaring weaknesses.

The Vikings starting 7-1 and becoming THE storyline and epicenter of the professional football world doesn't happen every year.  Or even every decade.  It's now happened twice in my lifetime.  Personally, I think the Vikings this season have been far more impressive than the Johnnies.

Let's look at the Vikings season and the 7-1 start...they were lucky to beat SF on a once in a lifetime catch by a 4th string WR...when truth be told if Delta O'Neal holds onto a ball that hits him in the hands late in the 4th quarter, he walks into the end zone with the clinching TD...by the way, Brett throwing a pick to loose the game is 2X more likely than the TD pass to win it...

If TJack was our qb we wouldn't even think about engineering a game winning drive because he is incapable of handling pressure well or pressure at all.  Lets not forget that Favre has about 43 game winning drives.

It's still amazing the vikings have a loss and we still talk as if they are 2-5.  Favre didn't have a terrible game vs. the Niners.  He didn't pass the greatest but threw for 2 TD's and 300 yds.  The first 300 yd game for the vikings in a 3 year span.

Final thought and changing directions.  How hard is it for gopher athletes to stay out of trouble with the law.  Two basketball players, one of who is Royce White from Hopkins has been suspended for the first 2 games or more.  Then a DB for the football team was arrested and jailed for failing to cooperate with university police!

Bernard Berrian did drop a number of well thrown balls that game as well.

Anyone know the status of USTD receiver Tony Magarit?  He was a starter last year with over 50 catches, got hurt in the pre-season and hasn't played since?  Out for the year or back anytime soon?

Out for the year with a hamstring injury.  He'll be back next fall for his last year.

bennies having to take off their shirts at the gate?

Now that's entertainment!  ;D

Haha or a good way to keep the St. Thomas fan count down.  The combination of kegs and eggs and shirtless bennies should send plenty of students to the toilets.  :-X

Not sure how many of you out there would be interested but Glenn Caruso will be doing a webcast every Monday morning going over the previous week's game and looking at the week ahead.  Link is here:

The Tommies looked good on Saturday, although one could argue that is not difficult against Macalester.  However, they made some big plays on both sides of the ball with a number of key starters (including three linebackers) out due to injury.  Hopefully the bye week will give them some time to heal up and get ready for some MIAC opponents.

Any other Tommie fans almost hoping the team goes winless so the AD will have no choice but to fire him?
Saw ScoutTeamTommie lurking out there and brought back a question of his from last year.  Didn't take a winless season did it?

Nope it definitely didn't; I think Roney's fate was sealed when he let the late lead against Bethel slip away last season.

Coach Caruso, if nothing else, has already brought a lot of excitement into the program, and his skills as a recruiter should bring a lot of talent to the best all around campus in the MIAC.  The players have had nothing but good things to say about him and I think he is someone they will all go out and play for.  I've got respect for anyone who comes in as a first year coach and requests that homecoming be played against the Johnnies.  Hell, anyone who can get four wins at Macalester after two years must be doing something right.

Scoutteamtommie, just would like to get your thoughts on the Auggie/Tommie game this year....my thoughts are that my auggies arena league offensive will probably get the job done pretty dominantly...i don't know if our D is gonna be good...but our O will be DANGEROUS as always...what do my other fellow Auggies think?

To be honest, I think the St. Thomas defense will handle the passing attack of the Auggies without too much trouble.  Our three current starters at DB and FS all played/started last year and did well.  At linebacker, we have three freshman and a captain who all started last year and should do very well.  My one concern is whether or not we have the ability to pressure the quarterback...no matter how good our secondary is, given enought time anyone can get open.  We graduated three starters on the defensive line who were the strong point of our defense last year, so I think our defensive success this year will hinge on whether or not we can get three guys to step up and fill their positions.  Offensively, I think people are going to be suprised at what we can do.  We have a junior quarterback in Sauer who has had two years of playing time to mature, and a solid receiving core that includes Theisen.  At this point, I think Augsburg is too young to legitimately challenge for a W.
