Quote from: thebear on March 02, 2024, 08:17:41 AMI saw Farmingdale over Stevens, Penn St- Harrisburg over Hood, Whitworth over Cal Lutheran, Texas Dallas over Trinity (TX), Whitworth over Cal-Lutheran as upsets; 4 top 25 teams [Elmhurst, DeSales, Cal Lutheran. Trinity (TX)] knocked out the first night.

Interestingly, computer ratings/rankings do not see Farmingdale's win over Stevens as an upset. D3 Datacast, Massey and D3 Bubble all had Stevens as the underdog in that matchup.
I just looked and D3 Datacast Had Farmingdale at 77 and Stevens at 32.  D3 hoops in their poll had Farmingdale at #45 and Stevens as #26 in ORV.  I also noticed the NCAA listed Stevens as Home and Farmingdale as Away, which i've been told means the higher seed is the home team in neutral site game.  Regardless nice win for Farmingdale.

The scariest pods appear to be the John Carroll pod with Calvin, & Elmhurst, and the Oswego pod with DeSales & Williams.  at least two ranked teams are going home from each of those the first weekend.

Sparks was honored at their last home game.

He's been at Oswego for 4 full hoop seasons and 5 years of classes.

New Paltz just won at Oswego, so the Lakers are a likely bid thief.

I saw Oswego play this weekend, very deep and very talented.

I think there is little separation between John Carroll, Calvin, and Oswego for the #1 spot after this weekend's upsets.

From what I saw Oswego's second five is a very good D-III team.

Oswego plays CWRU and Pomona-Pitzer in Vegas at year end which should add some clarity.

I don't think the SUNYAC has an official preseason poll, so for those in the know, what would it look like?

Based on my reading of the tea leaves and returning rosters, I would venture that
1 Oswego - Loaded team who defeated the #1 ranked team in the Sweet Sixteen.
2. Brockport, lots returning, would like to make their last year in the SUNYAC a success.
3,4,5 Some combination of Cortland, New Paltz, Oneonta, - looking at rosters they seem tightly bunched.
6, A food fight amongst Buffalo State, Fredonia, Geneseo, Potsdam, Plattsburgh for one playoff spot, again 5 teams all closely bunched.
7-10 whoever from above that doesn't get the 6 seed.  All these teams have significant roster changes.

Obviously they're not in the SUNYAC anymore but those that recall SUNY Poly (fka SUNYIT) will remember the name Kevin Grimmer, he was synonymous not only with their MBB program but all Wildcats athletics. Apparently he passed away on Monday, too young. RIP.

Kevin was a Utica native and an 1980-81 NABC All-American at Hamilton College in his playing days.

Nice Job, You have inspired me to do the same for the SUNYAC.

Two notes:  SUNY Delhi made the tournament last year from the NAC, and Hamilton from the NESCAC - so I believe should be in red.

Thanks for all the hard work.

Fair enough. Then putting the SUNY schools from the NYC area aside, would it work for Cobleskill, Delhi and SUNY Poly to be SUNYAC-bound, if that opportunity was to occur?

The SUNYAC at one time had as many as 12 schools, but that was back before Binghamton, Albany, and Buffalo were D-I.

Many of the SUNY schools are having enrollment problems, as liberal arts and teacher education aren't attracting the number of students they did before.

Brockport and Geneseo cut their travel budgets [and protected football] in half with the move to the E8.

There are 14 SUNYAC schools "upstate" when you take out Brockport and Geneseo  [leaving for E8].

Enrollments range from nearly 7,000 [Oswego] to 1,800 [Cobleskill].

You could do an East-West or Large School - Small School split and come up with 2 7-team conferences.

The way SUNY funds athletics [through student fees] puts the smaller schools at a significant disadvantage to the larger schools.

Just learned that Potsdam has added a game against D-I U Albany on December 5th.  7 PM tip at the Broadview [formerly SEFCU] Arena.
