I wanted to post this before the world series, but, this Cortland team to me just might be a team of destiny.  I was at the regional, they easily could have/should have been two and out.  Teams imploded, pitchers lost command, etc...but they always found a way to win.  And, I just thought this may carry over to this week.  Great start today!

Cortland continues winning ways with 4-1 spilling of Frostburg MD in World Series pool A play in Wisconsin. Junior B. Serio (8-0) tosses complete game six-hitter. RDragons tally three early runs, add eighth inning insurance score. Serio gives up unearned run, walks one, strikes out 10
Cortland plays again Sunday at 5:30 EST. Frostburg in Sunday morning elimination fray vs. Ramapo NJ in elimination game. Winner vs. CSt. Ramapo in early Saturday contest bounced Webster MO from the field by 14-2

Tough tourney for Eastern Shore pair so far. Salisbury ousted 9-1 by Trinity TX in pool B

Congrats to Cortland State for going 2-0 for the 1st time, in their 13th try at the College World Series. Seems it was not an unlucky number for the Red Dragons. Two chances to win Pool A. Lets hope the first time is the one and make tomorrow's "if necessary" game unnecessary. Go Red Dragons.

jdex,

I was very happy to see Southern Maine's junior shortstop Sam Dexter win the D3 Player of the Year. As I mentioned in my PM to you I thought he had to be one of the top candidates, but with so many good players across the country it's hard to be "The One".   Glad it happened and hope his career continues to be as good next season.

Looks like Cortland won't play today as the first game of the day has been pushed back to 5:00 PM this afternoon. That will match up Ramapo against Frostburg State in an elimination game with the winner taking on the Red Dragons tomorrow. Then later they hope to get the other elimination game in which will have Emory taking on Trinity(Texas). The winner of that game will face undefeated Wisconsin La Crosse tomorrow.

Weather scrubs Sunday World Series play in Wisconsin ....

First Monday scrap pitting Frostburg MD vs. Ramapo NJ has 10 a.m. EST start. Winner meets Cortland at 4:30 EST in Pool A championship round where RDragons would have to lose twice to not advance to final overall best-of-3 series between pool leaders.

Pool B elimination game has Emory GA vs. Trinity TX on Monday at 1:15 EST. Winner faces Wisc-La Crosse in pool final round at 7:45 EST. La Crosse goes 12 innings Saturday night for 3-2 win over Emory GA

Cortland and La Crosse lone remaining unbeatens in double elimination tourney

Cortland laces Frostburg MD 17-4 with an 11-run fifth inning to capture Pool A World Series play in Wisconsin. Frostburg earlier today eliminates Ramapo 5-2 to gain the Pool round finals of double elimination tourney. Cortland awaits the Pool B final between unbeaten Wisc-La Crosse and once-beaten Trinity TX which ousts Emory GA earlier today. La Crosse/Trinity upcoming at 9:50.

Cortland, down to a three-run Bobcat third inning before going on a rampage two frames later, collects 18 hits and is errorless. Frostburg with eight hits, three errors. A. Weingarten the winning hurler in a complete game (4er, 2w, 9k). M. Michalski goes 4x4, 2r, 2bi. F. Ricci 3x5, 3r, 3bi. N. Hart and C. Ziemendorf with 3bi apiece. Ten Cortlands scored, nine score a run, eight drove in a run. Frostburg sends six to the slab.

F. Ricci launches CSt 11-run spree with a double to left-center. The first five batters reach base, two with bases loaded walks. A. Simon single to center chased home two and a 4-3 lead. After an out, six straight hit safely including Ricci's triple to center. Fifteen bat and there are nine hits.

Cortland, 43-4, would begin the best-of-3 championship set Tuesday at 11 a.m. if La Crosse prevails Monday evening. A Trinity victory will force a Pool B winner-take-all game Tuesday morning. That probably puts off the start of the best-of-3 championship set to Wednesday. Veteran lefty  B. McClain probably takes the RDragons  mound

Nice to see the Red Dragons move on to the Championship series. I watched the game tonight and thought (once again) that Cortland was going to lose this game and it will come down to a deciding game tomorrow. And then they exploded for those 11 runs.

Cortland national champions! Comes from behind to beat Wisc-La Crosse 6-2 and sweep the best-of-3 championship series in Wisconsin. RDragons in a 2-1 hole entering the top of the ninth when M. Michalski gets a leadoff single preceding a botched fielding bunt. M. DiMilio walks and soph N. Hart delivers 1-1 pitch to center for two rbi and 3-2 lead. Another error produces the fourth run and F. Ricci pokes two-out two-run single to right. Corts bat 10 in the ninth with four hits and two boots leading to five runs.

T. Laitar comes on in relief to retire the Eagles .....a 4-6-3 doubleplay giving Cortland the crown -- its first in baseball. Cortland with a final 45-4 record.

A scoreless game matching Cortland pitcher S. Lamando and Eagle J. Miller through five innings. C. Ziemendorf delivers an rbi single for a 1-0 CSt lead in the sixth when Dragons leave runners on second and third when La Crosse relief ace J. Sadowske gets second and third outs. Eagles seize 2-1 lead in their sixth on B. Barsness and S. Adler rbi knocks. Corts finally get to Sadowske in the ninth with the aid of fielding flaws. A. Brant takes over for Lamando in the eighth and gets the pitching win.

Cortland with 11 hits, no errors. La Crosse with eight safeties and three errors. Hart, Ricci, Michalski with two hits apiece as Cortland goes 4-0 in the regionals and 5-0 in the WS

Ziemendorf named the Series Most Outstanding.  Lamando, B. Serio, A. Clock, Ricci All-Tourney

Congrats to the Cortland St Red Dragons on winning their 1st National Championship @ Grand Chute WI today.   Obviously, a team which was level above of everybody this year!!

Congratulations to the National Champion Cortland State Red Dragons who proved that 13 was a lucky number for them. They defeat Wisconsin-La Crosse in a come from behind 6-2 win by scoring 5 runs in the top of the 9th inning.

Cortland never lost a game in the Regionals, the Pool A title and the Championship Series as they went 9-0 in NCAA tournament play.

This was the 2nd National Title in the past 4 days as they have a matching pair of Walnut and Bronze trophies thanks to the Women's Lacrosse team's National Championship that they won on Sunday.

Great job by the Red Dragon teams this spring to bring home 2 titles and have 4 teams (Men's Lax and Women's Softball also) make the NCAA tournament.

D O.C.

Good job, Cortland!

It ain't easy.

Enjoy that off season.
