Quote from: ShineTime on March 21, 2024, 04:33:46 PMBrendan Canterbury had a year left if wanted any idea as to why he didn't come back? He would've really helped and given Pointers experience in right and was consistent hitter.
He wanted to focus on his career becoming an Athletic Trainer, which in turn meant completing his clinical hours and choosing to get his Master's Degree.  I would venture to guess that the clinical hours conflicted directly with the baseball practice schedule which is why he was unable to do both.

Quote from: PauldingLightUP on March 14, 2024, 10:52:29 PMWhat a comeback for the Pointers over the Blugolds tonight.

You can't make it up.
Aquinas' lack of execution down the stretch against Mineral Point (up 7 AND possession with under 0:30 remaining) reminded me of Platteville faltering against Trine (blew 10 point lead with 1:30 to play) less than a week ago...

With the current landscape in College Basketball in regards to the Transfer Portal and NIL money, I appreciate being around the WIAC at the time I was even more now!  While I still follow it, it just doesn't have the same feel to it now as it used to!

Getting to watch guys like Rich Melzer, Vince Thomas, Tim Dworak, Jason Kalsow, Aubrey Lewis-Beyers, and on etc.. torment the rest of the league for a full four years was a thing of beauty! I have a feeling if any of those guys even stepped on a D3 campus right now, they'd have scholarship money being thrown at them and likely wouldn't have played more than two years at the D3 level.

Good for the guys getting opportunities that those before them might now have, but I have an even greater appreciation for the guys sticking it out for the duration of their career at one place than I probably used to...

Quote from: badgerwarhawk on March 10, 2024, 04:43:20 PMThe WARHAWKS (3-2) pounded out 21 hits good for a 16-5 win over McMurray (6-8) in Pensecola. The WARHAWKS scored at least two runs in six of the 9 innings. Eli Frank (5x5, 6RBI, 2b,HR) Danny Hopper (3x5, 2 RBI, 2B), Dominik McVay (3x5), Matt Scolan (2x5, RBI, 2B) and Daryl Jackson (2x5, 3RBI) all had multiple hit games.  Alex Najares had a pair of RBI. Matt Berendt started pitching 3.2I allowing 4ER on 6 hits. Jack Hagen gave up a 1ER on 2 hits. Michael Hilken (2I,2H) and Max Huseboe (1I) also relieved. Berendt gets the win.

Same two meet tomorrow followed by a varsity reserve game.
Even in a 7-inning game, the starter needs to go at least four innings to qualify for the win...  Looks like Hilken is probably the guy that should be credited with the win instead?

Quote from: badgerwarhawk on March 02, 2024, 04:39:41 PMWarhawks struggle at the plate and drop the series final 9-1.  The lone run came in the 7th on Matt Scolon's solo home run.  Trinity's Jackson Teer struck out 20, walked none and allowed just 4 hits in a complete game effort.
Pretty impressive stat line, especially taking just 109 pitches to do so...  Just for comparison, Kerry Wood threw 122 pitches in his 20 K game against the Astros.

WIAC awards out. No real surprises.
With Pearson winning this year's POY award, that now marks the fourth time in the last six years that the WIAC POY has come from Kimberly High School.  Boots (UWO,) Borchert (UWO-Twice) and now Pearson (Platteville) have all seen great success in the WIAC after their high school careers came to a close.

I know where I'd be spending some time walking the halls recruiting if I was coaching in the WIAC....

Quote from: PauldingLightUP on February 22, 2024, 07:55:35 PMOshkosh wins opener over MSOE 11-9. Second game in the series on Saturday.
Brinkman gets his doors blown off giving up 9 in just four innings of work as MSOE scored in three out of four innings against him...  UWO bullpen shut them down after that however with five scoreless innings of work allowing the bats to fight back against MSOE's All Region P Tyler Gronert.

While this isn't one of the strongest seasons in recent history for the WIAC, something that did catch my eye last night....

When you look at the semifinalists from the 2023 WIAC Tournament and then last night's games, you have all eight teams represented the last two seasons.  I'm going to guess there aren't too many (if any) other conferences in the Nation that have had that happen.  If nothing else, it does speak to the the depth of the conference!

Oshkosh returns to Florida for the first time in a while for a weekend.  https://www.uwoshkoshtitans.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/schedule
Last time UWO went to Florida, they qualified for Regionals....  If I'm not mistaken, that was the same year Concordia-Chicago "double-dipped" them at Regionals to advance to the College World Series.
Yep. That one will sting for a long time, if not forever. One win away from the final World Series in Appleton and couldn't win one.
Well considering that season is the only year Tomasiewicz and UWO have made Regionals in his now ten-season tenure, it shouldn't be too surprising I guess....

North Central will win the Stagg running away.
Because they're beating La Crosse by six points midway through the 4th quarter?

I don't know what happened to Van Calster, so this very well could be true.  Whatever it was, it was abrupt and happened right before the Purple/Gold game. I hope Landon is able to find a place to play if that's what he wants.
If he does find another place to play, I can almost assure you it won't be at a UW-System school, which obviously rules out any of the WIAC schools...  As far as other schools, I'm going to guess his options are limited, and it has nothing to do with his ability on the court.

What's going on at UWSP?? Found out today Bowling Green transfer Jackson Watson quit the team along with Brennan Timm and all is not going well right now! That's after the departure of Landon Val Caster unexpectedly which was a 6'8" kid who could shoot it and was extremely versatile. I think it's way too early to judge and people kind of have to expect there would be battle for spots and playing time. I hope it's not true that some are already calling for Scott Anderson to be in charge of the team!
Departure?

Maybe it's just a matter of semantics, but VanCalster didn't "leave" on his own accord.... The decision was made FOR him, not by him....

So it begins with Bethel. Fully expected UWW to be in a bracket with NCC or UWL.

Looks like 4/5 teams will be fighting to play Mount. Once again they can sleep walk to the finals
It sure gets old after awhile.... Literally five of the top six teams on one side while #2 MUC is all by themself...
