Just wanted to say hi to my WIAC football friends.  Warhawk Nation has been vacationing in Ohio the last couple of weeks. We expect them back soon.  ;)

The Warhawk Nation can afford vacations once in awhile, because our tuition is so cheap.  ;D

And with thousands and thousands of kids on campus, no one even knows we are gone!  ;)

Or cares.  :D
Ok, back from a long, enjoyable visit to Ohio.  What shall we talk about?  The weather?  Too depressing.  Beer and ice fishing?  Don't do either.  Next season?  Too far off and, currently, an informational dead zone.  Sorry, I got nothing.   :(

Now, if someone comes on here and says, "you didn't win the game as much as we lost it,"  or "UWW is only successful because they are a big, bad public school with cheap tuition and low standards,"  I will be happy to light up the WIAC board.................. :D ;D 8-)

Does anybody have a problem w the Bears letting Hester go?

Who was better- UMHB or Linfield?
Not at all.  It was a no brainer.  His role has dwindled to being a, "return specialist," only and I don't know why a team would use a roster spot for a 30 year old, special teams, one-trick pony, especially when we need to overhaul our ageing defense, even if he is the best of all time at it. We have too many other needs.   My only problem is with Urlacher's whining about it.  Saying the Bears are not loyal to their older players like the Steelers, (Polamalu,) and he should be kept on until he retires a Bear.   ::)  His continuous axe grinding routine that has been going on since he rejected a $2 Mil/one year deal from the Bears is wearing very thin these days and tarnishing his legacy with many Bears fans, and I am at the top of the list!  Seems like they were entirely vindicated when he received no other offer to play and decided to, "retire."   My #54 jersey is getting harder to put on these days.......       >:(

Dear Brian:  It is a business!

You go 413- can't disagree w any of what you say.

Although I felt it was time for Urlacher to go last year and agreed w move, In retrospect I actually think he may have helped at least in pass coverage.

I agree.  Would have loved to have him........for $2mil and so, it seems, did the Bears, or they wouldn't have made the offer, to a 34 year old, coming off a serious knee injury.  He was insulted with the, "take it or leave it," offer.  Speaking of retrospect, I wonder, when the phone never rang, if he wishes he would have taken it.   8-)

Really, really close. I liked Linfield's offense and special teams better and I liked UMHB's defense better.  At the end of the year, when Linfield was so beat up, I think the edge goes to UMHB. Otherwise, who knows? Then you get into the "ifs and buts" that are impossible to figure out.

Good points on the two teams. UMHB certainly had a strong front and it would have been stronger w their star. Linfield sure would have been tough w all their starters too.  I'd like to see a Linfield v UMHB matchup as long as it's not at the expense of UWW.

I see UMHB has LaCrosse back on their schedule. They will be in LaCrosse on September 20.  The Eagles gave them good games in 2010 and 2011. UMHB outscored the Eagles 10-0 in both 4th quarters to grab 7 and 5 point wins.

Too quiet.
Anybody know when spring practice starts?
Any word on recovery of Joe Worth?

MasterJedi

Come on UWW, we're waiting for your schedule release. We know Franklin is on there but I'm hoping we can get another top two D3 teams on there as well!

The last I knew we were still trying to fill at least one nonconference date in September.  That was a while ago so maybe it's been filled.  However it looks like we're having the same problem that we've had for a while and not very programs want to play us.

Ya, and the monkey stomp of the Mount in December, surely, didn't help that plaguing problem, I assume.   ;D

I know injuries and how you deal with them are vital to the success of a season/program but it does hurt to see this list of guys that could have been on the field in December for Linfield.  (not an excuse because UWW earned every inch of that title trophy but it's hard not to think about it a little)

Steele - DT (starter - 1st team All-American)
Hyland - DE (starter - 2013 1st team All-American)
Randall - DT (starter - 2013 1st team All-Conference)
Poomaihealani - DE (starter - 2013 2nd team All-Conference)
Hill - RB (starter - 1st team All-Conference)
Poppen - WR (starter - 1st team All-Conference)

Tough losses for sure.
UWW was remarkably healthy throughout the playoffs as most of the lost time occurred in regular season.

I agree. While the mantra says "You can't use injury as an excuse", I feel like that saying probably started within a locker room.  Of course coaches and players can't use injuries as an excuse because making ANY KIND of excuse compromises he mindset of the team.   However, when fans (or media) look back on a season, I believe it is more than fair to weigh injuries into an equation.  I think it's very fair of Linfield fans to look back at last year and ask the rhetorical "What if...?".  Of course, it's unanswerable, but is still reasonable grounds for discussion IMO.

Mr. Ypsi

I agree, and that goes for all sports. not just football.

Michigan's basketball season has been absolutely unbelievable.  Not only is last year's national POY in the NBA, but last year's breakout-out star in the NCAA tournament, Mitch McGary, played five non-con games in obvious pain, opted for back surgery, and has missed the rest of the season - they won the toughest conference in the country by THREE games!  Sometimes injuries simply cannot be overcome, but sometimes others step-up in incredible fashion.

(Alas, I fear that right now Wisconsin is the best team in the Big Ten. ;))

UWL, UWEC and UWO take the top three spots in the D3 indoor track and field championships this weekend...

UWEC's Thurgood Dennis, a defensive back, defended his title in the 60-meter dash, setting a record in D3 at 6.68 seconds. He also won the 200-meter dash in 21.27 seconds; this is the first time in D3 that that race has been run at the national meet...

Congrats to all the participants, men and women, who represented our WIAC conference...
