Hey, as far as I'm concerned, UMHB was the National champ in 2016.
What's the problem?

Congratulations to Central QB Blaine Hawkins on winning the Gagliardi Award. I think this is more prestigious than the Heisman Trophy because it is for more than athletic ability. It combines education and community servicer as well. I don't really know anything about this young man, but, we have had our share of winners at Mount Union and I know the type of person who qualifies for this award.
Well done, Mr. Hawkins. The very best to you as you go forward.

First, congratulations to the Crusaders of Mary Hardin-Baylor. No doubt, you are the best in the land. You're number one, not because of some poll or because of what a group of people think, but because you met the challenge from the rest of Dlll. You played them on the field and prevailed in each and every case. Other good teams, like my Purple Raiders, dropped off along the way. But the Cru played on! Only you sit on top of the mountain. Only you can say, "We're number one".
And it seems there's a pretty good chance you'll be around for awhile. That's scary if you're a Mount fan. I'll try to deal with it.
Again, congratulations. You earned it!

As for the TD pass when you were up by a big score. I loved it. If you have a big lead, put in your backups. You did. Truly a nice move for a backup QB that helped  you get to the Stagg Bowl. He'll remember for the rest of his life that he threw a TD pass in the National Championship Game.
I have always felt that it's the responsibility of the other team to stop you from scoring. If they can't stop your backups. too bad.
Good move by your coaching staff.

Meanwhile, back in Alliance. I wonder how we'll do next year? That school in Belton, Texas will be back and ..........  :'(  ::)

I think I read something where Ruby sounded like he was planning to come back. If true,  that will be huge!

It won't be huge if the coach comes back!

Rumors of Dartt leaving?

No, but would like him to!

To all my Warhawk friends

Let me say first of all - I feel your pain. I know exactly how you feel. I was more shocked at your losing than I was at our loss.

But, given that both teams lost, could we do something about it? I may have a proposal.
Here in Ohio, in Holmes County, which is mostly Amish, there is a cheese factory called Guggisberg. Every year, they win contests for their outstanding Swiss cheese. Maybe you've heard of them. Know that Holmes County abuts Stark County, which is where Alliance is located. Alliance - home of The University of Mount Union, but you already knew that.
The  world knows Wisconsin is known for it's dairy products, particularly cheese. Do the words "cheese head" ring a bell?

So what's my point? Basically, I have no idea. But try this one.
UMU and UWW meet in the "Little Cheese Bowl" also known as "The Not Quite The Stagg Bowl". Hey, we've had some great games in the past. Perhaps you can think of a better name for the game. That's OK. The main idea is to get our two teams, that bowed out of the playoffs too early, together. Location? Who cares. Let's just play.

Mull it over. Just a thought. It's very lonely here! Go Warhawks and Go Raiders!  8-)  ;D

As I reread what I just posted, I realize I now have too much time on my hands.

NEVER MIND!

NCC Fans

Congrats to the Cardinals of NCC. I looked at 4 factors that I thought contributed to the outcome.
But the most important was that NCC was the better team. They made the Raiders look very inept much of the game. They deserve to be in the Stagg Bowl (again), having a chance to be national champs.

Talked to some really nice people before the game - parents of # 98. I told them I would silently cheer for their son. Looks like I didn't need to.

Again, congratulations on a fine season and a trip to The Stagg Bowl. What bothers me is you'll be back next year.
Oh well, Mount has a great women's lacrosse team that I follow. Go Raiders!  ;D

Was MUC57 the gentleman of a certain vintage in the stands that was wearing on his head a purple . . . hedgehog? . . . tumbleweed? . . . upside-down woman's carpetbag purse???

Ummmm........No.
LOL! I was watching the game with my wife, and when that guy came on, I told her "That could be MUC57". Funny thing is she knew who I was talking about!

bluestreak66

Have no fear. I don't know your wife, but I AM known throughout the land. My reputation reaches far and wide, even in University Heights. However; not in Berea. (I went there once, it was closed.)

Stay safe.  8-)  ;D

Copy all ... Thanks!

How about watching it with MUC57?  Hey, Air Force buddy, what are your plans?

BillyRayJimBob

Off we go, into the wild blue yonder
Climbing high into the sun
Here they come, zooming to meet our thunder
At 'em now, give her the gun
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under
Off with one hell of a roar
We live in fame or go down in flame
Oh nothing will stop the U S Air Force!

Might you be going to Buffalo Wild Wings Friday? I'd watch it about anywhere except at The Hall of Fame!
Let me know if the group (whoever that is) is going anywhere. I'm in!
Go Rai...........! Never mind!  ;D

To all my friends on this board

Good luck in your game tomorrow. Always nice to play at home.
I hear it's supposed to be very cold there. Alliance is forecast to be 63. That's the good news. The bad news is that comes with an 80% chance of rain and strong winds (gusts up to 60 mph).
Would love to see a UWW - UMU Stagg Bowl. We've had some good ones. Quite frankly, your chances are better than ours. But, who knows?
I'll close with - Go Warhawks and Go Raiders!  8-)  ;D

FOR NCC, WWW, UMHB FANS CHRISTMAS SHOPPING FOR MUC57:

https://shop.petittigardencenter.com/products/389/mount-union-championship-sled-ornament-8185.html

(Or beer. Either one.)

(Or both.)

Eddie (if I may call you that)

Your post touched me deeply. To think that you would do that for an old man who has probably out-lived his usefulness is beyond comprehension!
I was so moved after reading that I put on my freshly washed Mount Union pajamas, grabbed one of my 13 National Championship steins and poured a bottle of Purple Raider Light Lager. (I think it has different names in other areas of the country). I turned on my Raider helmet light and read the new book by Harry Paidas titled, "Make The Echoes Roll", a history of the school from 1996 on. This while watching the 1997 Stagg Bowl (Mount Union 61, Lycoming 12) on the home movie system.
I love being a Mount alumnus, even an old one.
Go Raiders! Let's go to The Hall of Fame.

P.S. I really loved that sled. It would give me a chance to show my Raider pride.  8-)  ;D

I appreciate all the insights to this game Saturday, well done all.

Only commentary I'd like to add is the HOF involvement on Mount's behalf is laughable. That group is so inept, it's sad. Even if the NCAA would entertain the thought, the HOF would find some hilarious way to mess it up and Rocky Pentello would lead the Wilmington Quakers into the game, coached by Dean Paul.

Now that's funny!  :D  ;D
