Per Charlie Walters:

"Now it looks like St. Thomas, ousted by the MIAC, will not appeal for an exemption to expedite entry to Division I, and that the university probably will end up in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which wants the Tommies. That option has made the most sense since St. Thomas was booted out of the MIAC in May and will make for a stronger WIAC.

By the way, a logical place for St. Thomas would have been the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for its men's and women's programs had the university decided to go to Division I."

Between Joe Mauer retiring with the Twins to use his college football eligibility with the Tommies or Johnnies, to UST jumping straight to the Big East, to UST now jumping to the WIAC, I'm not sure Shooter is the most reliable source. I would put a lot
Of $$ on all of the above not happening.

Hope your parents are OK. How's the house? That's a ton of rain in a short time.
Here in Alliance, it's been hot (mid to upper 80's) and very muggy (dew point upper 60's to low 70's).
Better than all that rain.
Oh, and where do your parents live? How is your area? Lots of questions but hope all is well!  :-\

Almost forgot - Go Johnnies!  ;D

No problems for them.  Their soil drains pretty well, and I don't think their sump pump ever runs (as opposed to mine which runs regularly even when it doesn't rain :o).  They live in Central MN, about 13 miles from SJU.  There were some very isolated storms that dumped huge amounts in small locations.

Hmm... it doesn’t look like the Coens are involved.  They get writing credit for coming up with the characters but it doesn’t look like they did anything creative for this specific film. I suspect it will suck.

QuoteThe films official synopsis states that it’s about:

a trio of misfits whose irreverent, sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story as their spontaneous and flippant attitude towards the past or future backfires time and again, even as they inadvertently perform good deeds. When they make enemies with a gun-toting hairdresser, their journey becomes one of constant escape from the law, from society and from the hairdresser, all while the bonds of their outsider family strengthen.

I just bought a chest cooler for an upcoming camping trip...need to keep perhaps too many beers cold. Damn these things have gotten expensive. I can't imagine what makes a $500+ cooler worth the cost.

I actually won a 300$ cooler at the company Christmas party. Kept things cold all 4th of July weekend! At the very least, a 500$ on will do that too!

Coolers have become a status symbol.  Unless you're big game hunting in the wilderness and need to keep supplies cold for extended periods, I find regular coolers more than sufficient, if you know what you're doing.  Put your food/beverages in cold (i.e. don't put warm beer in a cooler), use ice blocks instead of cubes, and only open as much as necessary.  I do this regularly and routinely have ice left at the end of 4 day trips.

I have a friend who works at Pelican and can get them at cost, and I still haven't bought one.  My SIL has one, and it must weigh about 70 lbs empty.  Totally unnecessary for a weekend's beer.

I went with a $100 Igloo cooler. Do non-aficionados even notice what type of coolers people carry? I saw that Pelican and Yeti have pretty large logos, so maybe they're trying to create a buzz. The notion of a high-status cooler just seems odd.

People love showing off their Expensive YETI coolers and they like to be associated with the trendy brand. I have a 40 year old Coleman convertible that still is great. I don't use it much anymore since it is a little heavy (about a third the weight of a Yeti and a lot less than a Pelican or Siberian). I find the very inexpensive cloth ones with inserts do a good job for me.

You're definitely paying a lot for the label on those really high end brands.

If you read the story on Yeti, they were originally designed as a component of the boat that the founders were making...he wanted a cooler that doubled as a stand, where he could fish from...it was after the fact that he and his brother realized they could sell them for crazy prices.

My cooler is so old and ineffective that I keep the beers on the outside.

Also, in Oz a cooler is referred to as an Esky regardless of the brand as the Esky cooler cornered the mindshare on coolers long ago.

To be fair, it doesn't get that hot down under, right?  :P

You know you're a Minnesotan when you've used a cooler to keep you beer from freezing!

I think we all missed the opportunity to congratulate Pat & Crew on the 20th anniversary of D3football.com this past week.

Well done and thank you!  8-)
