"a team like that" had a wonderful trip to Alliance.  Thank you for your hospitality.

congrats on the W, literally meant no disrespect. I'll be rooting for Alma to make a Stagg Bowl run.  It was a shot at the powers that be at Mount that allowed such a loss to even be a possibility.

I appreciated the context the D3Fb podcast gave Mount Today. They talked about how Coach Dartt has really done a wonderful job considering he's 42-3 with a Stagg Bowl appearance. On one hand I'm extremely grateful for the playoff runs we've had and the ability for Mount Union to remain the most consistent elite team of the last decade or so. despite multiple coaching changes... including a hall of famer! We're certainly a spoiled fan base.

On the other hand,  when viewed from the perspective of "The Standard" ("Champion the Standard") You can't view Dartt's tenure as anything less than disappointing (so far) and he'd probably agree!

To be fair, he has an extremely unfair and probably unrealistic standard to uphold... but it is what it is.

I agree with both things -- this has definitely not lived up to "Champion the Standard" but I don't know that anyone could. Trying to sustain what a literal Hall of Famer built is nigh on impossible.

Vince was pretty close though, at the same point in his career as Dartt is at (excluding Covid year) he had 3 Stagg Bowl appearances and 1 championship. However he also benefitted from having an all-time great QB in Kevin Burke for 2013 and 2014. Without Burke the 2013 team probably doesn't reach the Stagg Bowl. Plunk is a great player but I don't think he's nearly the offensive weapon that Burke was.

Vince also gave up being the DC....and the players would have ran through a wall for VK, good luck finding that attitude now

If the players are expected to "Champion the Standard", then the coaching staff and school should be expected to as well.  Mount Union football is at a significant moment right now.  No disrespect to Alma, but there is no reason for the "Standard" of D3 to lose to a team like that at home.  Zero creativity out of the offense for years, running the shotgun when you are 6" from the goal line, how many more slow starts or anemic second halves to inferior competition do we need to see?

I'm as big of a Mount homer as you will find, but this program is soft right now.  Nobody is scared of Mount Union or scared to come to Alliance.  The team is talented but predictable, the attendance is garbage, there is no killer instinct, it's get up by a couple of scores and shut it down...save the creative for later

Sorry about that. They're holding together for now but need some serious help, which I am trying to get for them.

Need for fixes have progressed beyond my ability to manage the software. :)

Thanks for all you do!  I decided on Saturday to not pay the the $10 to watch the Mount Union Game and instead watched OSU v UM.  I was planning to go to OAC Boxcast later and watch the Mount game.  After seeing the final score, I've not gone back to watch.  Ugs.

It was very frustrating to watch in person... it's like we waited the whole game for the Mount machine to wake up and take control of the game and it never happened. At one point we intercepted their lateral on a trick play, in any other year that would be the turning point where Mount would capitalize and turn the tide, but Alma had an interception a few plays later.

The Machine hasn't been awake since '19.  NCC-Mount in the 2nd round was the title game played way too early, this was something entirely different.  "The Machine" has been idling on arrogance, entitlement and nepotism.

Boards are back.  Kind of glad they were down all weekend.  What a downer.

if the boards were held together with duct tape and chewing gum, the worst loss in the dynasty-era of Mount Union football was likely going to be the breaking point.  With Dartt in charge, I guess Pat was lucky to limp the boards along this far, could have been Muhlenberg in '21 or BW in '22

What a win by Alma on Saturday.  Saw numerous comments and congrats here, but then the board blew up, and it looks like we lost 3-4 days worth of posts.  Guess that's what happens when you pull of the massive upset.  Congratulations to the Scots!!!

I thought this and the OAC boards seemed sparse. I just assumed everyone had tuned out for Thanksgiving like me lol

the OAC board was anything but quiet.  Congrats to Alma for fighting to the finish, but the Mount faithful were pretty hot on the OAC board

Overall 1 seeds aren’t supposed to lose in round 2. Regardless, the point is I am not that confident in ST J getting selected. If the committee goes with win % it could be UWW, Wheaton, and Union, Coe/Muhl as last team in.

This is how it played out which is what I was hearing.

So if SJU 2023 was fool's gold, what non-precious metal is 2023 MUC?

under Geoff Dartt, the Raiders have resembled the 2020 precious commodity, Charmin

For those that think Saturday will be another walk in the park for the Raiders, Alma is a very explosive football team.  Their skill players are excellent and they put a lot of points on the board.  I am still not totally sold on our DB's who have benefitted from the DL's good QB pressure.  We seem to always be chasing and never looking back for the ball. Their running attack is very solid, the the D appears fairly strong.
I hope I am wrong, but I think we will get more than we want from this team.

Giving up the big pass is 100% my concern with the Mount defense, especially with who is down the line.  Nobody has really drove the ball on Mount for a TD, seems like they have all been a big pass leading to a score.

I think Mount will be much, much more focused/prepared for Alma.  Hopefully the embarrassing first round was a wake up call

OAC Football Award

can't really argue with a Raiders clean sweep of player awards.  At least the conference threw a couple of guys a bone with ties

Not gonna lie, Aurora vs UW-La Crosse could be a good game. AU was without their starting QB yesterday but survived turning the ball over 4 times by forcing six Coe turnovers. If the Spartans starting QB is ready to go Saturday, this could be the best game on the docket.

it's being reported that the AU starting QB suffered nerve damage in the regular season finale and is out for the year. Pat brought this up on the podcast

Braxton Plunk needs 4 TD to break the NCAA career record for TD passes.  Does that happen in the early or later part of the 2nd quarter?  Do you go to Ruby or his cousin, Chase Lawson, for the record breaker?

4th TD pass was to Edwin Reed early (13:35) in the 4th quarter.

for this week's challenge, Plunk is now up to 14,356 passing yards (an NCAA D3 record).  But Borchert holds the Mount record with 14,482.  For the BW alumni, that's 126 yards.  At what point does Plunk throw for 127 yards? the first or second quarter?

No Purple Raiders TE play today?

Looks like Mount treated it like a mini-bye week.  Weird game all-around for the Raiders

After doing what they wanted in the 1st Quarter, Mount severely underperformed in the 2nd.

The coaches and kids must have read the 60-70 point win predictions.  Totally unacceptable 2nd qtr

Mount looks totally unprepared.  Poor coaching and poor execution
