And let's remember, last year Midd--a clear number one seed--got shipped out to Rochester for the sectionals. And it was Midd who advanced to Salem. Hosting guarantees nothing.

Though I sure look forward to Friday night's games being in Pepin.  :)

I envy you! I remember Amherst being in a similar situation in '08 and being shipped off to Plattsburgh St. Most guys were over the disappointment pretty quickly...moving on is much more difficult as a fan.

Enjoy the atmosphere this weekend.

The NESCAC tournament is on Saturday and Sunday, however. To do that in the NCAA's means someone is playing at 1 p.m. on Friday. I don't think anyone really thinks that's the right way to go.

I think there are many who think hosting benefits for the school, town, and neighboring areas might be worth having early games.

No, they can't, because that requires four games on Friday. The only reason Amherst is able to host both this weekend is because the men's hosting is just one game total.

Forgive me if someone has already addressed this issue, but why can't one school host 4 games on a Friday? Games would have to be started too early on a school day? Are the rules posted anywhere publicly?

Well, the handbook says a school can't host two four-team pods/sectionals at the same time. Besides four game times to consider, there are extra locker rooms, practice and shootaround time. And why would the women play at 1 and 3 on a weekday? That would be even worse than usual for fans.

I think game-day considerations might be manageable in LeFrak. Double-NESCAC hosting seems to do well enough. As for game times, I'd have the home teams play last (as opposed to both women's games then men's). Coin toss for the right to choose the order for home teams. Maybe a free throw shooting contest? That sounds fair.

Practice on the night before would be more tricky from a travel/missing class perspective, but seems feasible.

To the team of Amherst posters: Somewhat to my chagrin, I think the loss, and playing without Toomey, will actually be good for you – just like playing without Robertson was good for the Ephs.

I'm not sure the loss, in itself, is "good for [them]" (I imagine successfully overcoming adversity is better); but I think you're right about them having a unique opportunity for growth.

The Babson game wasn't pretty, but I enjoyed the ambiance. One fan, dressed in a Beaver-green onesie, loudly followed the ball up and down the sideline. Did he make it onto the webcast? I sure hope so. Anyway, most of his chants were limited to, "It's okay, it's okay" and "Nice hustle!" That actually captures the essence of Babson's play pretty nicely. He, sort of like his team, fizzled towards the end, but you have to respect the passion.

So here's my thing, and it may sound a little funky, but...

I wish Amherst's shooters shot from farther back. Well maybe not all of them, Toomey pulls from pretty deep, but in general I wish they'd start about one step back. I'd imagine it doesn't take most out of their range, and it makes it more difficult for the D to close out. The (intended) result would be more daggers, and that's always a plus...always.

Quick question: For the people who have seen Toomey play in practice and over the summer, can he shoot? It's kind of worrisome that he has shot so poorly from behind the arc so far, especially since he is clearly not shy about throwing it up. Hopefully it's just a bad run?

Toomey's range looked legit and he seemed  to relish tossing daggers.

"..but we're talking 'bout practice."

I'm not so familiar with the rest of the country, but I hear they like winning, too.

Even if the new guy is a defensive stud, it seems that Amherst wouldn't play him.  The team already barely plays their best defensive player (Williamson), not to mention Meehan and Toomey at the point.

I think 'Herst will play whomever provides the best chance of winning. That may be subjective, but the best Jeff teams played guys who were solid/disciplined defensively and versatile offensively.

What good is making an inference that yields nothing positive?
