It's January and not much going on.  Here are some ARC schools homecoming videos.  Alumni from our conference schools can be proud to return and see how their campus has changed over the years and how their school is continuing to develop future generations.

Shout out to BVU for including ax throwing in their festivities  ;D
As a college age kid, I loved hearing stories from my friends at Central of the Lemming race.  As a man in my 50's, I think of the insurance liability of a bunch of kids running into a shallow pond  ;D
Two of my kids made brief appearances in the UD video.  Once again, Mrs Doolittle and I were able to avoid the camera!
Luther and Wartburg had parades!
Looked like each of the schools had good fall weather for their homecoming weekend.

This is the time of year I like to think about teams I would like to see Central schedule for their non-conference games.  It is always nice to try new things and as far as I can remember, The Dutch have never been east of Ohio.  If there was only an easy way to get there, I would like to see Central play somewhere in New England just for the novelty of it. Until we can teleport football teams, I guess I will stick to wishing for a game close to Chicago and easy for me to get to. It looks like the University of Chicago Maroons have been competitive lately and would provide a good pre-season test and an easy commute for me.

How about Chicago’s North Park or Elmhurst from the CCIW or, at the other end of the spectrum, North Central in Naperville?  ;D
So young hero, ask yourself……………………….Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

If I went to a game in Naperville, I would have to drop my wife at the casino in Aurora and by the time I picked her up four hours later I would be wiped out. Besides, Central just played at North Central in 1967 so they are out.  I don't know much about Elmhurst, but North Park is near one of my favorite Polish restauants, so a game there might make for a nice day.  I think U of Chicago stays higher on my wish list though.

Have Central work their way through the SCIAC.  Visit SoCal every other year for a decade or so.

Northwestern College wins the NAIA title. Iowa has produced a ton of really good small college football the last few years. NWC, Morningside, Central, Grandview, and Wartburg have all made the semifinals or won titles. It’d be fascinating to see how it would shake out if they played across divisions.

Why not go out on a limb and think about North Central or Wheaton? Yeah, I know they could be losses, but it would be interesting/exciting match ups. Until the ARC can regularly get two teams in the playoffs, non conference games won’t be what keeps us out.

Doolittledog, not trying to insinuate anything, but since the Spartans are not always on the cusp of the playoffs, why not play a St Ambrose or other Iowa NAIA?
I think a Central-Dordt game would be cool since the Defenders have several Pella areas athletes on the roster.

If OSU hadn't dropped the ball against Georgia, it could have been a full on Midwest sweep of all divisions. Actually, now that I actually type that up, I'm more than happy to give up the sweep if it means OSU lost.

I think a Central-Dordt game would be cool since the Defenders have several Pella areas athletes on the roster.

Dubuque played Iowa NAIA schools in the past. Just looking at the 1980's and 1990's UD played St. Ambrose in 83 and 85, Iowa Wesleyan 1989, Westmar 1990, Graceland 91, 92, 93, 94.  And just across the Nebraska border played Dana in 95.

While Dubuque isn't "always" on the cusp of the playoffs, they usually have had a shot going into the last week or two for awhile now, besides making the playoffs in 2011 and 2015.  So I imagine that keeps the Spartans from looking at NAIA in the area.  Plus, I think another thing to look at is recruiting areas.  UD has started to recruit Ohio recently and we had a 2 game series with Marietta the past two years and now have scheduled Wittenberg.  We had a 6 game series with Pacific for a west coast trip not too long ago.  I wouldn't be surprised if a Texas trip pops up at some point.

Now, if you ask me, I would love to see a conference that included Morningside, Dordt, Northwestern, Buena Vista, Grand View, Central, Luther, Wartburg, Coe, Dubuque, Loras, St. Ambrose  ;)

Didn't realize the Ohio recruiting angle, but now it makes sense.
That would be one fun conference for the fans, but brutal for the players. Let's go!

UD cans Greeks

https://www.kcrg.com/2023/01/21/univ-dubuque-greek-life-leaders-say-they-were-blindsided-by-universitys-decision-suspend-all-greek-life/

I have been a big fan of the UD administration over the past 2 decades, but this is puzzling at best.  At a time when every school is looking at an upcoming enrollment cliff I would think UD would be encouraging all student groups, not shutting the Greek system down.  At this point there are over 300 alums committed to attending an independent of the school Greek Ball during this falls homecoming weekend and staying away from the UD homecoming festivities.  Just from alums that I know personally there is a removal from estate planning of a significant amount due to their feelings over this situation.  Many upset in my corner of the world over this decision.
