Is Tip Off a frequently used term for a beginning of season tournament?  It's the term used most frequently for a tournament that has been going on since the 1999-2000 season, though this year it's the Thanksgiving Tournament because it is on November 30 and December 1.  That would be the tournament that Washington University, Depauw and Illinois Wesleyan have been holding since that season.

What makes this even more special than last year when the Titans won their first national championship is that Depauw won its second, meaning they have three of the last four championships.  Since the Bears lost to Amherst in the other, they've participated in the last four championship games (in fact, six of the last seven).  Kristen Anda was on the bench for that WashU victory and in the game in the loss to Amherst (Lucy Montgomery and Jordan Rettig were on the bench for that one).  Even more members of the IWU champion and of course Depauw will be on the court this weekend.

Now that I've done beating my chest on why this might be considered the most prominent Tip Off tournament these days, does anybody know of any other tournaments worth noting?

If you want to see who has won how many games in the history of this tournament, I just posted that over in the UAA area.

As of this time, D3hoops hasn't done any writeup to remind people of this tournament so I'm posting this link to all the appropriate sites so anybody who might be interest can check on the live stats or video of the games:
