You're buying beers? Hey, I can make it. The "home" is pretty good about letting me out for awhile. I can't be out after dark or cross any of the big streets. But........! Let me know!

If we get to the point of hosting Mount Union for a home game, I'll buy you a fancy local Minnesota craft beer. Maybe even refill your metamucil jar too.

Where's your baby brother? Haven't heard from him today. I thought he would be here with some choice comments.

He's actually older lol!
He's on his way to Cleveland now. I'm heading out tomorrow. I could only get one day off of work  :'(

John Carroll has officially listed all non conference games up to 2024 on their website:
19-hosting UW Stevens Point
20-One and done at Ithaca
21-22-Home and home with Washington and Jefferson
23-24-Home and home with UW Whitewater
Kind of a difficult slate! I also think someone in the athletic department must have tried some New Glarus during the 16 playoff run, and is coming up with any reason to return to Wisconsin!

This is excellent.  Kudos to the Streaks.  I'd love Mount to schedule someone like Ithaca just because I'd like to take a mini road trip to see some different campuses.  A road trip to Bethany, WV or Terre Haute, IN just doesn't have the same appeal.

And Defiance ???  At least RH & Westminster have/had winning programs.  Those two Defiance games will do zero in getting Mount going for the season.  With B-W & JCU on the front end of the schedule, I just wish the opener was against a more traditionally/newly successful team.  SJU, ST, Case, Hobart, Wheaton, Trine, NCC, IWU type of teams come to mind.  I know it takes two to tango so I think Mount is scheduling the best they can under the tight circumstances (first game of the season, reasonable travel considerations).

Beyond the utter lack of benefit from playing DC I would also be at least a little hesitant about scheduling a school that has seemingly constant financial/enrollment woes.  Who knows what the state of their athletic dept. will be by the time you play them.

Two things . . .

(1) I wonder is the new AD will be a short-term AD.  She is younger, single and new to town.  She did not have to move a family here so a quick exit would nto be difficult.  On top of that . . .

https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2018/09/11/st-thomas-athletic-director-steve-fritz-retiring/

. . . the St. Thomas job is open at the end of the year.  Now, she may have come to Carroll after she got the clue that she would be passed over when he retired . . .or . . . someone may have pulled her aside and said "Go get Head AD experience and we will call you in a year or two."  Who knows?

(2) I really question the W-WW game or any other potentially high quality non-conference game.  As a fan, I LOVE them, but as a pragmatist on this issue I question scheduling a possible second loss when Mount Union still appears to be a likely loss on an annual basis for the foreseeable future.  The formula for a playoff berth in the OAC seems pretty solid - either (1) be Mount Union or (2) go 9-1 with a loss to Mount.  Now, maybe we close that gap and beat them more regularly between now and 2024 but a tough non-conference game is risky as an 8-2 record is a tough road to the playoff.  It worked the year we lost to Oshkosh but beat Mount but it took last minute heroics to accomplish that. Without that, a national semifinalist may very well have been sitting at home for the playoffs.  Just concerned these games could backfire. I love them but I fear them at the same time.  I am not saying you schedule weak opening opponents but, at the same time, we have to admit there is risk there.

The new AD is showing she ain't afraid of NOBODY!  If I recall she mentioned a more "regional/national" direction for JCU, so this sure does seem to highlight that agenda.  I think it's a very positive move, and should help JCU get that focus right off the jump at the beginning of the season.  Well done!

Given her ties to St. Thomas, I kind of expect to have a series with them at some point down the line!

Bring it on!

We've gotta find an AD of our own though.

As  I said in my previous post, I am worried (worried is not the right word since I am unfamiliar with her for the most part and she does not have a body of work at JCU at this point but no one,  I assume, wants to lose a new hire) that your next AD is our current AD.

Difficult openers are a great way to focus the team in the off season.  It's also a great way to eliminate your margin of error for the season in week 1.  Will be curious to see how it plays out.

I am against this strategy but time will tell.

I totally agree. Surely there are easier ways to get some New Glarus!
Someone like W&J is a perfect non-conference opponent in my opinion. A team you can beat that will give you another playoff caliber team on the schedule. If they were looking at the WIAC, Platteville or LaCrosse would have been better teams to schedule, or someone like Milikin or Carthage. in 2024, Mount is actually the 2nd game. Talk about a tough opening stretch!

There was some discussion about her as a possible candidate on the MIAC board back when Fritz made his announcement. Sounds like some with inside knowledge don't think she'd be on the radar or welcomed back. I know nothing though.

Several things from this week's 2 deep....

Good to see Stika listed as the starter at C after he hobbled off last week and didn't return.

Freshman Caleb Smith is listed as the #2 MLB this week.  Soph Brady Maxwell is listed as the #2 NG.

Former starting/backup TE Koscielski is now wearing 78 and listed as the #2 RT.  He's not a "normal" Mount TE who is more like a slightly larger WR.  He's 6'4", 240.

Perfect for that tackle eligible double throwback 2 point play I've seen them working on the last 6 weeks.
