For the record, I hope Mount schedules a real opponent in 2024-25.  Defiance is a joke game

Perhaps even more of a joke now. https://www.d3football.com/notables/2022/05/defiance-job-turns-over-again

O/U 139.5 Mount points scored or O/U 9.5 Defiance points scored in the series?  What a joke, pay them and get out of the second game

I'd suspect that Defiance would take that. UW-Oshkosh I believe is still looking for an opponent in Week 2.

I wish Mount would play UWO! It doesn't hurt them.  I will say it's nice to have JCU and BW towards the end of the schedule again,  rather than at the beginning of the season.

5th HC in 7 seasons?  With that much turnover it's probably a miracle they can even keep enough kids on the roster to field a team.  That has to be tough.

It doesn't help that Defiance has had shrinking enrollment for years and hit a low of around 500. It's one thing to schedule a team towards the top of the HCAC (as they've done with Rose-Hulman and Franklin), but there has to have been a better option than Defiance. This is a rare case it might have been better to schedule a non-D3 team. I can't imagine the Mount starters will even be in at the end of the 1st quarter.

I usually dont log into the boards very often in the off season, but glad I did.

1)  The WIAC is competitive because of the people at the schools.  Just like Mount, UMHB, Wesley, St. Johns, Rowan, John Carroll, Washington & Jefferson etc... These man and women that run these organizations make it appealing for young athletes to attend.  LK, LL, Gagliardi,  Berowitz, Keeler, Sirianni, Arth, The late great Mike Drass, THornes' (plural), Coach Fred, and all of the other head coaches, AD's, assistants, former players etc... that make up the whole team.  I'm sure tuition could be a deciding factor between 2 or 3 schools.  I dont buy it though.  How could private schools in super competitive markets (Mount Union, UMHB) possibly compete with any school in the WIAC if tuition was such a major factor.  When you develop an atmosphere of winning and make that the expectation it is hard to forget it.  I still, 20 plus years later, expect Rowan to have a winning program...every year.  The WIAC has done that with all of there programs, and their coaches have instilled that type of culture and the students come there to be a part of it!!!  This is not to say that other coaches or programs that dont have success dont bust their humps trying, i'm just saying these select few are EXCEPTIONAL and as such so are the schools that they worked at.  Not for nothing, but once upon a time, the OAC (all private schools) was the #1 conference in all the land.

2)  Sorry to see Lenny go, I thought he did a great job... Good Luck to him.

3)  MUC57 great inspiring a podcast.  I enjoyed it!!

4)  LK = "The GOAT"

5) Back in the day ('97, '98) Mount opened with Defiance.  I do wish that Mount could have a more competitive game, but they do schedule several years in advance. I remember a time (before the purple powers were born) when Mount scheduled a scrappy team from Wisconsin for home and home.  If they have made that a 4 game series instead of a 2 game series, they both could started the season the same way as they ended it in the Stagg Bowl.

6) Also, did everyone hear Pat's/Greg's comment about the current slate of D3 coaches?  No Head coach in D3 has was the Stagg Bowl...  Amazing

Go D3

This will basically be like an NFL preseason game.  Run a few possessions, put your ball cap on and watch.  The problem is that Mount's JV team, let alone varsity back ups, would run Defiance off the field so it's going to be out of hand no matter what Dartt does short of kicking FG's on 1st down like LK.

Just throwing this out there... most points by a team in the D3f era was Rockford beating non-D3 Trinity Bible in 2003 by a score of 105-0. Highest score vs a D3 team is St John's beating St Scholastica 98-0 in 2017. Just seven touchdowns each half and perfect on extra points and you're at 98.
I'm of the mindset that if you've pulled the starters early and are playing with the end of the bench, you keep playing your style. It gives your players who might not get much action a chance to play which could be beneficial down the road. It's more humiliating to have a team just quit trying completely than to be blown out badly.

Mount will never pass 90 points.  84 in '13 vs Marietta was a shock for sure

Scoring a metric crapton of points, whether that's 105 or 90 or whatever, is only going to be a bad look for Mount Union for sure.

I'm old and don't remember. Did Marietta do something to slight VK or the team?
