Rochester had a decent year but I don't recall any coach getting Regional Coach of the Year honors  with an 18-9 won-lost record and a 4th place conference record of 8-6.

First place isn't required for coach of the year honors -- there are a number of places we go with these, and while one of them is "regional team which lasted the longest in the tournament" or "regional team which was highest in the Top 25 entering the postseason" we also recognize "regional team which outperformed expectations or dealt with adversity," and "regional team which made an unexpected postseason run" etc.

I would encourage you to look at Region 9 this year, for example, for another similar example.

Do not interpret this as us trying to run down Jason Leone's year! We simply can only choose one.

This is based on who was honored at the last home game:
Oswego has 13 coming back, including 4 starters, Green and Sparks are studs, plus Leone will never stop adding folks he think can help.
Oneonta loses starter Sean Nolan, and reserves Kameron Hickey and Taylor Mason, but does Joseph Bull return?
Brockport loses Devante Hagins, Antonio Alvarez, & Brandon Kennedy-Gay, They still have Jahidi Wallace back.
New Paltz should be solid, only lose one senior, who saw little action.
Cortland only loses one starter, and their 6th man, - Austin Grunder is an All-American, suspect he will attract some other players
Potsdam only loses one reserve, Tyrese Baptiste should be back, They played a very young lineup, 2 fr, 2 sophs ,so should be better for the experience.
Geneseo loses their two top scorers in Michael Gannon & Terence Nichols so they could be in a rebuild mode
Buff State returns everyone that was playing at the end of the year, as does Fredonia.
Plattsburgh loses one senior

Greek Tragedy

Is Derice returning for Oneonta? He's listed as a senior and he started. No mention of Ortale. He was a new transfer. 2nd in scoring and 1st on the team in rebounds.

Oswego picks up a 6'6" G/F Cartier Bowman from D2 Saint Rose.  Leone has got quite a few impact D2 transfers over the past 5 or 6 years, another solid pickup for the Lakers.   Played in all 24 games for Golden Knights and started in 8 while averaging 7 points and 5 rebounds.  Was originally headed to D1 Tarleton State, but Leone worked his magic.

Potsdam just posted their schedule, open with RPI at the Hilbert tournament in the Buffalo Suburbs on Veteran's Day. Vikings play the Bills in OP that Sunday.  Guess I need to start working on the wife.

Rest of Non conference schedule is pretty much as expected, @ SUNY Poly, SLU, Clarkson, Canton H&A.

SUNY Poly matchup should be a good one, they return most of their lineup including O'Dell.  Looks like Josh Gregory is playing in Europe for the upcoming season.

TIMBOSTEW

I see SUNY New Paltz landed a transfer from NJIT. A big , should give them some more depth and another target for Blando and St. Lucia to feed. They should be in the mix.

Oswego's roster is up, starting five are all regulars from last year, added a first team all-state player in Josh Thigpen, and 6-4 swing Joey Rowback who averaged 24ppg last year in JUCO.  Lakers appear to be worthy of the gaudy preseason ranking.

In a low scoring affair, Potsdam leads #23 RPI at the Half 24-20.  Winner meets the hosts tomorrow afternoon.

The Bears are playing well.  RPI definitely missing Memmelaar and Mahoney, those guys gave RPI a lot of spacing last year.  If Potsdam keeps up on the boards they'll have a shot.

Oswego come from Behind win vs. Hobart at E. Conn tournament.  Very "un-Leone" to see him use only a 7 person rotation this early in the season.

Amazing stat for the Lakers to see only 3 turnovers in 40 minutes.

Akee Anderson led Oswego with 15 points.

Newcomers Cartier Bowman [St. Rose xfer] and Joey Rowback [Juco Xfer] combined for 21 points in 45 minutes.

Oswego never went to the free throw line, and Hobart committed just 6 fouls in the game.

Meshanic brothers (3) combined for 24 points and 24 rebounds in 75 minutes.
