Women's soccer / NCAC 2017
August 31, 2017, 01:56:00 PM
As the NCAC begins non-conference play, it does so with a heavy heart. Long time DePauw University Women's Coach John Carter passed away unexpectedly yesterday. In his 24 years coaching the Tigers, John's teams went 255-156-24, with six conference championships (3 in the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference) and three in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. His teams made it to the NCAA tournament 7 times, with the 2003 team advancing to the NCAA semi-finals before losing to the University of Chicago in OT. John left DePauw in 2014 to run Indiana's ODP program full time, where he developed countless coaches and players.

May his memory be eternal.

Women's soccer / NCAC 2016
August 26, 2016, 01:44:16 PM
Well, the 2016 season is upon us, with teams beginning play on September 1st and conference play starting on Saturday, September 24th. The pre-season coaches' poll puts Denison in the top spot with five of nine possible first-place votes and 77 total points. Defending conference regular season and tournament champion DePauw received the remaining  four first-place votes to finish second with 71 total points. Kenyon (third with 60 points) and Wittenberg (54) finish out the top four, with Wooster (46), Allegheny (42), Oberlin (24), Hiram (18) and Ohio Wesleyan (13). NCAC schools will face some strong competition, with nationally ranked opponents such as William Smith, Carnegie Mellon, Illinois Wesleyan, Thomas More, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Centre, and possibly Washington University making schedules. In addition, there are many shared OAC pre-season opponents, which should give conference watchers some sense as to how the teams are playing before conference play begins.

It should be an exciting season and best wishes to all of the players and coaches!

Women's soccer / 2015 Great Lakes Regional Rankings
October 21, 2015, 06:04:51 PM
Well, here is the first regional ranking for the Great Lakes Region:

GREAT LAKES
1 Carnegie Mellon 13-0-1 (UAA)
2 Thomas More 12-0-1 (PAC)
3 Case Western Reserve 7-4-3 (UAA)
4 Denison 12-2-0 (NCAC)
5 DePauw 8-5-1 (NCAC)
6 Franklin 11-1-0 (HCAC)
7 Capital 9-4-0 (OAC)
8 Ohio Northern 8-6-1 (OAC)

Only "surprise" may be DePauw at #5, though with the third strongest SOS in the region and 4 of its losses against other regionally ranked teams, it shouldn't be a shock. Besides, its early and things may shake themselves out.  Any omissions?

Women's soccer / 2014 NCAA Tournament
November 14, 2014, 03:31:57 PM
Well, the first game of the tournament has already provided a surprise, with Hope knocking off host #4 Wheaton 1-0 in the 105th minute. While there was a wide disparity in shots taken (35 for Wheaton and 16 for Hope), the number of shots on target were much closer (14 for Wheaton and 10 for Hope). Congratulations to Hope, who faces the winner of the Ill. Wesleyan v. Dubuque matchup later this afternoon.

Women's soccer / NCAA Great Lakes Region--2014
October 21, 2014, 03:27:00 PM
In anticipation of the first NCAA Regional Ranking, which comes out tomorrow, here is today's NSCAA ranking for the Great Lakes Region:

1 Carnegie Mellon University 11-1-0 (UAA)
2 Thomas More 14-1-0 (PAC)
3 Case Western Reserve University 8-3-3 (UAA)
4 Otterbein 8-2-4 (OAC)
5 Hanover College 11-3-0 (HCAC)
6 Capital University 10-4-1 (OAC)
7 Denison University 8-5-0 (NCAC)
8 Kenyon College 7-6-1 (NCAC)
9 Westminster College (Pa.) 12-2-1 (PAC)
10 Allegheny College 9-5-0 (NCAC)

Also receiving votes: John Carroll University (4) (OAC), Ohio Northern University (2) (OAC), University Of Pittsburgh-Bradford (2) (AMCC), Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (1) (HCAC)

Unless there has been a significant change in the number of teams in the Great Lakes Region, I believe that the NCAA will only rank eight teams for the region.  It will be interesting to see how the rankings compare.  I suspect that the top four in each will be identical or very similar but there may be some variation in the bottom four.

Women's soccer / NCAC--2014
March 03, 2014, 06:38:38 PM
While the new season is still some months away, in something of a surprise, John Carter has left DePauw after 24 seasons as head coach.  He had a 255-155-24 record with one trip to the NCAA final four in 2003.  Lisa Link has been named interim Head Coach.  It will be interesting to see if there are any other changes to the NCAC coaching roster this off-season.
