Funny, dlip was just sitting here reading through the boards and with some building excitement towards the upcoming season and he was thinking back to the Dutchmen Shoes game of last season. dlip remembers being harsh on the RPI fans regarding their end of the game behavior and then kind of sticking to it Mach here on the boards as well after that. Upon reflecting dlip is thinking he was way off on that, probably saw it differently than it really was, and wants to apologize to Mach and the RPI fans (not that anyone gives a ****) for that. No one got hurt and it was certainly a joyous win for the Engineers, one they totally deserved.

To dlip, that celebration by the RPI fans really only adds to the excitement of the game and brings some fire and life back to the rivalry that at least fans wise, has seemed to diminish over the years. dlip also thought back to Connor Eck's OT game winning pass to Kyle Reynolds in Troy a few years back and how much he would have loved it if Dutchmen fans ran on the field (all 100 of them).

So however meaningless, stupid, hypocritical, and/or pathetic dlip wanted to throw that out there before the new season and admit his mistake. We need some fire and fun back in this rivalry on both sides.

Not sure you were all that far off base with your initial reaction. Even this long time RPI fan now remembers not thinking much of the field being covered with people running around all over the place.

However, identifying the running nuts as fans was not what actually happened. Unlike many college fan bases, the typical RPI sports fan who is neither attending, employed or in any way tethered to the institution, is at minimum AARP eligible. A good number are actually carrying Medicare cards. Most of us are well past scaling that change link fence surrounding Union's field and running around the place.

They running nuts were pretty much all current students and alumni of recent vintage.

None the less, it was pretty silly.

Dlip and Tony troy,
A couple of interesting posts for a game to win some shoes. Last time I checked any graduates of these two schools were able to afford as many shoes as they desired. Haha. Dlip, don't beat yourself up too much for your initial reaction....you are a nice and tolerant person at the core and a fair, respectful and tireless follower of the Dutchmen  ...and to new poster Tony troy, how true your comments are about the composition of the attendees at many of the LL games. The exception are the parents at many LL games , not too old and way more excited than the average student fan these days(unless pre gaming is involved generating artificial levels of excitement )...thank goodness for the parents at the Hobart games leading the way with all sorts of Ra ra cheers. Can't wait for the season to start...less than two months...GoBart...oh and beat RPI and Union

Ali Marpet will have the advancement office all over him at Hobart after reading this:https://www.bucsnation.com/.../zack-martins-contract-ali-marpet-to-get-paid-tampa-ba

Compares Marpet to Zack Martin who just signed $ 84 MM ( $40 MM guaranteed) with Dallas Cowboys. If Ali stays injury free this year, he will help Hobart recent grads average salary stats.

Yeah, I'm sure he'll get the red carpet treatment when he's in town for the Union game. He better hire bodyguards for his wallet ;)

So I see Frosty from NJAC is moving to D2.  That means only a 9 team league for the NJAC in 2019, so lets get the LL AD's (Hobart, Union) on the phone to start hammering down a 10 game schedule for 2019!  Also, just noticed on D3 site that SJF originally had a 9 game schedule, now they list Malone as their 9/15 opponent??!! D2 opponent from Michigan?

Malone is a Dll Quaker school from Canton, Ohio. Just up the road from Mount Union. Was NAIA UNTIL several years ago. Good luck on the season. ☠🏈

With apologies to any Quakers that may see this, they aren't very good. They lose more than they win. Refused in the past to play Mount. Don't be concerned just because they are D2. 😀

Malone has also refused to play Wesley. Walsh is also another Ohio team that has said no (after being beaten in 2011).

I wasn't too concerned about SJF playing a D2 team, I was actually more upset that they couldn't schedule a game against a LL opponent.  Both Union and Hobart had open dates.

Man dlip would love to see the Dutchmen and the Cardinals face off during the regular season.

Been researching your Dutchmen, dlip. Looks like a good number of guys coming back. Speaking to Coach B in a few minutes and looking forward to hearing what he has to say.

I like the hire of Trigonis - he has a long-time LL pedigree and did a nice job at Castleton. Curious to see what, if any, changes he makes to the passing / running game at the U.

Super cool ITH. dlip thinks the Dutch will be quite competitive this season. There certainly will be some question marks like at the LB position, QB position, and the d-line. dlip is also high on the hiring of Trig and likes what he brings to the table. If dlip is correct he LOVED to air the **** out of the ball at CS. That approach, matched with Behrman's love of running first will make an interesting play book for sure.

To dlip the team's ceiling sits solely on the backs of the young O-line. IDHO they overachieved last year and at times allowed the U to almost literally run the ball down opponent's throats. dlip loves that offensive approach and enjoyed seeing the young line have the success they did. If and it's a big if, they can parallel or even play better and more consistent than last year Union may challenge for the LL title. If not, the O's success may weigh very heavily on their ability to not make mistakes (drops, INT's, fumbles, etc). O's that have very small windows for error really struggle to produce consistently.

dlip looks for the D to be filled with athletes and hopefully continue to make some big plays. dlip is big on Soph CB Paul Chambers. The kid is an excellent athlete who had an excellent freshman year last season. dlip thinks that he may become the LL's next "shut down" corner if he continues to develop.

The QB situation will be interesting as well. With Cascione coming off what was by far his best season and the talented soph Bellamy probably hungry to start the competition should be solid in camp. dlip really appreciates the growth and maturation he saw from Cascione last season. Things were touch and go the year before and he could have packed it in but he didn't. He battled and gave Union a consistent starter last season. We shall see.

Hopefully your interview went well and dlip appreciates the shout out. Coach Behrman is nothing short of a class act and football lifer whose passion for winning combined with his knowledge of the game and care for his players will only continue to help the Union program move forward. We still have a ways to go but it's going to be a great ride!

Dlip, I love your enthusiasm about D3 football and our beloved Union College Dutchmen. As always the most important unit on any football team is the O-Line (guess where I played).   Last season first years Ehrets, Grosse and Katchadurian started with Jr. Greeny and the only lost senior, McGuire. To add to that returning 4/5 is Curran, now a senior who has filled in all over the line, another FY Lamarco, who saw key playing time and don't forget the possible return of a healthy Alex Hamilton who twice won a starting job only to be quickly knocked out by injury. I'm excited about this year's team and the potential of the O-Line to be dominant.
On the defensive side there's also a lot to be confident about. Seniors to be Law, Reilly, Newman and Panici are joined by Gilland, Constable, Zubrano and Chambers (sorry Dlip but he was a soph last year)...ALL starters. Add in super aggressive former high school teammates Lama and Gioioso, sack specialist DiCaterino, playmaker Reed and the potentail return of injured Ordukhanyan. WOW LOADED ;D... let's get started!!!

+k UfanBill. Great to hear your excellent points. dlip always respects and appreciates your insights, not only because you're a Union fan but because of how well you know the game and observe all the little "key" things that are happening. He hopes you are enjoying your summer and looks forward to seeing you and watching our beloved Dutch.

BTW Ordukhanyan is dlip's favorite player. The kid is like a bull out there. Lot's of power and a low center of gravity. He's one of the last dudes dlip would run at...

What's your take on the QB situation? dlip also failed to mention the impressive backs Union has in Khnaizir, Demby, and Waller (although dlip didn't see him on the 2017 roster???).

UfanBill

Here's my take on Union's skill position players for the upcoming season. The Dutchman are surely going to miss the tenacity and break away threat of Connor Kinzelmann. Keep in mind though that he missed considerable time last year and was hampered by leg injury. That opened the door for FY Travis Demby and an out of nowhere Brett Waller (he appears on no roster) to get the job done. Demby, Waller and maybe Derek Khnaizir will be given first crack to win the job this fall. Look for one of the six incoming frosh RBs to also have a big impact .  At tightend the leading returnees are Pat Ryan and Ryan Schaenman. I hope new OC Kevin Trigonis throws to the position more.  The kicking game graduated both punter and place kicker so who knows? I hope special teams won't be a detriment.
NOW... about the Quarterback.  Nick Cascione has one year of eligibility left and I'm assuming he's coming back. He's started the majority of games the last three seasons. Last year's backup Will Bellamy should be itching to play and there's John Germinerio ( brother of Brockport standout Joe) who deserves a chance. Cascione is certainly capable though he struggles at times. Dlip I have NO IDEA how this shakes out. I can say that coach Behrman must have confidence in what he's got since he only recruited one QB.

Union2000

As it turns out, Cascione doesn't have another year of eligibility, so he's done.  (Don't know the details, but heard reliably that was where that landed.)  So looks like Bellamy and Germiniero will battle it out...
