There is a discussion about d3 coaching royalty taking place on the NESCAC board.  As part of the conversation a link was provided to the NCAA site which has sortable coaching records.  I clicked over and set it up to sort active d3 coaches and was noodling through some of the pages.  The 90 - 99 page was most interesting to this SLIAC fan.  Look at the logjam among the top SLIAC leaders.  All three coaches have between 18 and 22 years experience and are  separated by only 6 wins.  Bunch clearly leading the way in win %.  With coaching wins being such a turtle race, it is fun to see that the top three guys at three of the leagues top programs vying for the league lead in any given season.  Not that the games between these teams need any additional fuel.

This is really neat for me as an almost 20 year follower of Webster hoops. The first season I came to games was 2001-02. Kaniela Aiona was a freshman on that team, coached by Dave Kaneshiro who took a D2 assistant coaching job at the end of that season. Both are from the Big Island of Hawaii. Kaneshiro has been the head women's coach at the University of Hawaii Hilo for over 10 years. Kaniela Aiona has just been named the head coach of the men's team at UH-Hilo.

I guess I need to add that my brother lived in Hilo from 1984 until his death in 2018. We visited the Big Island many times while he was alive and have made one visit to my sister-in-law since my brother's death.

Wow.  Down to 8. Hope that number holds.  Looks like more last minute scheduling for the SLIAC as I presume the remaining 8 won't keep the home/home on the schedule.

y_jack_lok

IWU will still compete in the SLIAC in '20-'21.

Very interesting decision.

The footprints of the American Midwest Conference is more compact and should reduce travel costs, though this was surely more about an enrollment management strategy.
