Quote from: Pat Coleman on February 27, 2024, 08:40:25 AMThe size of the tournament changed a bit in the interim as well, right?

I want to say when I was still in undergrad (and maybe for a stretch afterwards) it was 62, wasn't it? I don't remember what the Pool A/B/C ratio was at the time though.

Quote from: bbfan44 on February 26, 2024, 04:02:10 PMI have no idea how to look this up, but it sure seems like a long time since the CCIW got only one team into the NCAA Tournament.  If they had a "play in" game like D1, perhaps IWU might have been selected to play.

CCIW website has a full history. Last time the league only got one team in was 2007.

Couple results from Salem the past couple days.

From yesterday:

From today:

H-S will carry The BeltTM into the NCAA Tournament. While most such teams have had good success once in (only twice since 2010 has the holder going in gone one-and-done), none of the prior teams in the Modern Era have proceeded to then go on to claim that other, lesser, object made of wood and metal.

RMC came back from down 5 late in regulation and survives a late three in overtime to maintain possession of The BeltTM.

The final minute down on Carroll's side... FIVE missed layups is wild to me.

Ethan Helwig: 19 pts, 12 reb
Ken Thomas: 13 pts, 9 reb
Sean Molloy: 11 pts

Kobe Simpson: 22 pts, 4 reb
Echahelo Simpson: 12 pts, 4 reb
Jacob Naber: 8 reb

WE BACK.

Pro tip: don't go 2-16 from the field in a quarter. You're gonna have a bad time.

And yet despite that, North Central fought back right as I was walking into the hangar this evening, took a late one point lead, but Emma Berg hit a backbreaking corner three late in the shot clock with 11 seconds left to lead Augie to a 66-63 upset.

Linnea Johansson: 22 pts, 14 reb
Corey Whitlock: 13 pts, 8 reb
Macy Beinborn: 9 pts, 8 reb

Jocelyn Trotter: 15 pts, 11 reb, 4 stl
Elle Sutter: 13 pts, 5 stl
Megan McClure: 8 pts, 4 stl

Super proud of this Cardinal team. For a group picked to finish dead last before the season, to win 12 games (including one against a ranked Millikin team) and get a home tournament game is a success. They will be back.

During this tumultuous time The BeltTM exchanged hands a few times but has landed in the safety and comfort of a familiar friend.

Next game Thursday Feb 22 at the Salem Civic Center vs Shenandoah

Beat me to it!

I've had a dedicated tab on my phone open for the past month and a half keeping tabs on what's been going on and have at the same time been keeping The MapTM up to date.

With the ODAC Tournament, The BeltTM will have been played for 33 times at the Salem Civic Center in the Modern Era, easily the most out of any venue.

Hope 73
NCC 65

It wasn't really as close as the final score suggests. Hope scored the first ten points of the game and wasn't threatened in the opening 20 minutes, leading by 18 going into the break thanks to hot shooting and good physical play on defense. The Dutchmen led by as many as 22 in the second half before the Cardinals woke up, using an 18-5 run to help cut the margin to single digits, but they got no closer than within six as Hope was able to hang on.

Tyler Swierczek: 15 pts
Ken Thomas: 12 pts, 4 reb, 3 stl
Terrance Moncrief: 11 pts

Marcus Wourman: 20 pts, 3 stl
Justice Mims: 13 pts
Clayton Dykhouse: 12 pts, 4 reb
Gabe Quillian: 10 pts, 11 reb

I need to pay closer attention to things.

Shenandoah 65
Guilford 58

For the second straight year, the Hornets welcomed in a BeltTM holder and won. The BeltTM will spend the holiday in Winchester, Virginia, with the Hornets' first defense coming against Elizabethtown on 12/30.

NCC 72
Edgewood 53

This was a tight game for most of it, especially in the first half as the Cardinals only took a two point lead to the locker room. But the margin was 8 after three, and the defense really clamped down in the final 20 minutes to deliver a victory.

Jocelyn Trotter: 25 pts, 4 reb, 4 ast
Megan McClure: 20 pts, 4 reb
Elle Sutter: 4 pts, 5 reb, 5 ast, 2 blk, 3 stl

Vivian Guerrero: 25 pts, 16 reb, 4 stl
Kenzie Senffner: 9 pts
Grace Vesperman: 4 pts, 5 ast

Platteville eased past North Central 80-65, but without Logan Pearson. Any insight? Injury?
Platteville wins without Logan Pearson. Did not have sound on my video feed so I don't know why he didn't play. Ben Probst led the Pioneers with 22 points.  Platteville shot over 50% from the 3 pt line.  Platteville has 2 weeks off for finals and Christmas break.  Next game is December 29th against Calvin.

Pearson was apparently in a walking boot last night. I don't know any details beyond that.

Clearly, they didn't need him thanks to that barrage late in the first half (they hit five three's in a row in the final five and a half minutes of the first half to help stretch a six point game to a 21 point game and cruised from there).

UW-Platteville 80
North Central 65

Platteville showed why they're a Top 25 team tonight, leading wire to wire. NCC was within six with about five and a half to play, but the Pioneers hit their last five three point tries of the half to help balloon the margin to 21 by the break. A Cardinal rally late in the second half proved too little, too late. UW-P finished 13-25 from beyond the arc (9-15 in the opening 20 minutes).

Ben Probst: 22 pts (shrug game)
Max Love: 17 pts, 9 reb, 3 stl
Brady Olson: 16 pts (4-5 3pt), 4 reb

Nick Smoldt: 22 pts (6-8 3PT), 4 reb
Tyler Swierczek: 14 pts, 4 reb
Ken Thomas: 10 pts

Next one for the Cardinals is at home a week from tonight against Hope.
