It happens all the time. Both times that North Park has played Valparaiso in this decade it was an exhibition game for NPU and a regular-season game for Valpo.

"The first chance to see SIU will be an exhibition game against Minnesota State on October 22, and the regular season opener is November 5 against Illinois Wesleyan."

Can it be a real game for SIU and and exhibition for IWU? I forget how that works.
I'm 99% positive the game against U of I back in the Dauksus/Amelianovich days worked the same way.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

That's how it worked a couple of years ago when Augustana played at Illinois.

That's 3rd division, right?  Not a bad starting place for a d3 kid.  You can go places from there.

Hey - figured I'd confirm. This can happen. The quirk used to be that DIII could only have this happen if D1 had started and the game was prior to Nov. 15. However, a few years ago it was changed to be any time of the season. DIIIs are still limited to two scrimmages/exhibitions per season, but they can use them whenever they want from Oct. 15 to the end of the season. D1 cannot do this once the season begins and the game must count for them. So, you get the quirk where half the stats mean something and half the stats don't exist.

BTW - the rule was changed shortly after I/we caught a couple of DIII schools who had misread the original rules (can't do this after Nov. 14) and played higher-division teams and didn't count them. One of those schools I vividly remember having just one non-conference game coming up in about five days they had to dump or they were going to go over their limit for the season (despite it being in December; no chance they would be able to drop any conference games). I will admit, the rule was worded in a way that could cause someone to misread it, but only if they made the effort to not double-check what they were reading.

Anyway ... shortly after those games happened DIII allowed the games to take place any time during the basketball year. Personally, I don't really like it .. but whatever.

Congrats to Carthage for figuring out how to address the problem of sticker shock after NPU figured it out sixteen years ago. ;)

The question for North Park is how long until the do a second tuition reset.

Greenville has taken an interesting approach to cost reduction.  They have a new character scholarship valued at $18,000 that is not based on grades or the college boards.  I am guessing almost all students will get the scholarship.

Carthage was one of three schools I read today that has made this adjustment. It is starting to become something schools realize they have to do. I suspect it will be the norm soon.

Rusty Lindsey had a nice interview with Aston Francis during halftime of the IWU-Wheaton Football game.  There was a short presentation of the Josten's award down near the field earlier in the broadcast and then Francis came up to the booth.

Talks a little about the FF run and what he's been doing since including post season surgery for a stress fracture suffered during the season.  His future plans also (G League).
