Quote from: D3fanboy on February 29, 2024, 06:07:28 PMSounds like Notre Dame College (D2) in Cleveland is shutting down after this semester.  Not a bad D2 program.  Sucks for the athletes and those that just signed letters of intent.  Dartt and Co could probably clean up

But if they live off campus, they can just commute a mile away to JCU...

Quote from: Kira & Jaxon's Dad on February 20, 2024, 08:32:59 AMHow about those Streaks and their future plans?

Now Mount Union will never lose the OAC!!!
Was there a time when they didn't?

2016... Believe me, this is not a "look at me, we won the OAC one time since this century"... I'm just "glad" that one time it was not you, was us. lol

Quote from: sigma one on February 22, 2024, 09:35:48 AMI read that post on JCU and their clever reasoning for leaving the OAC.  Which colleges in the OAC are in close danger of collapsing?  Frankly, this sounds like a defensible excuse for ducking UMU in football.  And I don't think I blame them, particularly because of the shrinking at-large invitations into the playoffs.  I really liked the D3 post about expansion to 40 teams, but I think it's a long shot that the NCAA will move very quickly in that direction.  I hope I am wrong!

my first reaction on us leaving was that it looked like we were ducking Mount... However, I don't think that holds much credence when you schedule Non-Conference games with Whitewater, Oshkosh and even Washington and Jefferson.

Quote from: Raider 68 on February 20, 2024, 08:41:30 PMAs many have read about JCU moving to the NCAC in 2025, I am wondering who could join the OAC going forward if any school. JCU is leaving for a chance to become a top dog in the NCAC vs. always going against the Raiders for post season opportunities. While there also the academic considerations, I do not see the conferences be equal in sport teams. JCU has always been a major player in all OAC sports, so I am missing their logic with this move.

Mount will have an opportunity to see a more competitive non-conference schedule if they can play teams with better programs than the last several years.

Maybe two open dates can bring about a more competitive schedule in 2025 and beyond.

going to be tough to replace JCU's almost standard 9-1/8-2/7-3 on the Raiders schedule.  Mount really needs to go after the top of the PAC if/when they re-open their conference to OOC games

hey, hey, since 2013 we've only had 2 seasons finishing worse than 8-2...

That one hurts.. lol

Hello future Conference foes! Just wanted to pop in and say that I'm looking forward to future razzing and teasing :)

So much has happened since the boards went down! I HATED the move at the beginning, but as time has gone on, I'm actually happy about it. For starters, at the onslaught, it seemed as though we were running away from Mount (not saying that's not the case) but I believe so much played into this. The elephant in the room is seeing how many schools have had to close their doors in the past few years because enrollment is down in college. I do believe that this will eventually hit some of the schools in the OAC, so if true JCU saw the writing on the wall and wanted to ensure a conference with stability.

With that said, I know there will be many who say that we are "Running away" from Mount, but I don't think that can hold much water when you schedule Non-Con games with Oshkosh, Whitewater, even W&J. It would've been just as easy to schedule a "decent team" from a "non-power" conference who will probably get 7 wins, to help bolster the SoS...

But as a "win" for me, with this move two of JCU's conference opponents fall within 2 hrs of me, so there's that.

For the first time ever, JCU comes in at #1!

I'm going to my first Mount game of the year today. Are there any good tailgating spots at JCU?  It has been a few years since I last ventured to JCU and I'm not sure if the old spots still exist.

Have fun! Unfortunately I won't be there either... 2 under 2 and in the Chicago suburbs made this year impossible for me to head back. I want to say good luck, but......

I'm also in agreement that a 9-1 Mount Union has a 100% chance of making the field, despite the fact that their 2023 on-paper blinded resume will look approximately equal to just about every other 9-1 league runnerup who didn't play a major OOC game (Muhlenberg, Carnegie Mellon, and the like).

Anyways, I'm still gonna mention the Mount-JCU game when I do this week's roundup of games with Pool C leverage and who you should root for in the other games if you're a fan of a potential Pool C hopeful...

John Carroll.. The answer is John Carroll.

I was just looking at stats and if we're being fair no one from Mount should win the special award for WR or offensive back currently.  When's the last time that happened?  And frankly it's not very debatable at the moment.

2016

And something else happened in 2016.....

Donald J. Trump was elected President of the United States.
Let's keep politics off this board, O.K.?!   ;D

Well played... But don't forget something else happened the following Saturday... In Alliance. :)

If MTU blows out JCU this week and finishes 10-0 after BWU, and Alma handles their business in weeks 10 and 11 against Adrion and Albion, I would consider moving Alma to 2 over JCU.

This is kind of where I'm at... I'm trying to pre-assess how poorly JCU would have to play against Mount for me to flop them and Alma in my rankings...

I have a feeling that the MTU vs JCU game will be close though.

Almost always is..

If John Carroll beats Mount Union and both finish 9-1, does Mount Union earn a Pool C Bid?

Recency bias.. The committee will never keep Mount out, in my opinion.

Did JCU really have senior day on their second to last home game of the year?  because Mount is the last one?  lol  That's BW level stuff

Unless...

The thinking has nothing to do with Mount.  The last couple years under Coach Bullis, UW-W actually moved our Senior Day to our first home game. It had nothing to do with who we played. I'm pretty sure the thinking was that playing the last guaranteed home game of your career is going to be emotional no matter what.  And the Senior Day focus unnecessarily  exacerbates that issue. So why not move it to a day that the "last home game" issue is not a factor.  It probably lessens the significance of "Senior Day", but I think coaches would rather affect that than affect a player's performance because he's feeling sentimental.

I think this has to be it.. The Mount game has really become "the big one" for rivalry sakes, and the defacto Conferece championship game for 10 years.
