This really is an early decision. Kirk hasn't even been accepted into the school yet. :)

Gordon, lots of Nescac recruits announce their matriculation "pending admission" in December ... I've yet to see the "pending" not materialize :)

Nice article on Duncan Robinson's progress:

Huh, I didn't realize that. Thanks for the info.

If interested, you can support the D3 team and help defray costs for TBT here:

The TBT is right around the corner, see the link for bracket and schedule info - https://www.thetournament.com/

I have also included a listing of players that are from New England and/or played basketball at a D3 program in the Northeast.

Overseas Elite – In total, they have won four TBT titles, $7 million, and have a perfect record of 25-0. They are returning this year to defend their crown and go for five straight TBT titles.

Congrats to Duncan Robinson for securing a roster spot with the Miami Heat: https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/2019/07/duncan-robinson-locks-up-nba-roster-spot-with-miami-heat.html

Something realllly random for the middle of the long off-season, did y'all know that (at least some people contend) that the first ever basketball trading card depicted Williams?

A better look at the card:

Most NESCAC schools were included in the set (Amherst, Tufts, Wesleyan, Bowdoin, Hamilton, Bates, Trinity), so collect 'em all!:

I mentioned to Amh63 that I saw one of the Murad football cards of the Amherst team displayed in the Canton Pro Football Hall of Fame last summer.

Tremendous achievement by Duncan Robinson whose hard work and grit earned him a spot on the Miami Heat roster! See video with story and highlights with commentary from Duncan's 26-point performance in yesterday's final NBA Summer League game:

I don't know who this Tim Duncan fellow is, but for some reason they buried the Will Hardy lede:

Austin Hutcherson apparently pursuing D1 options including Notre Dame: https://twitter.com/tnoieNDI/status/1154443991816892416?s=20

I continue to think that more elite D3 players will consider this option and Hutcherson is clearly capable of playing at the high D1 level. Stating the obvious, Hutcherson would be a massive loss for Wesleyan.

nescac1

Wow.  Wesleyan has had some bad luck with high-level point guards leaving the program early in recent years (Salim Green, Kevin O'brien) but Hutcherson if he transfers would obviously be an especially devastating blow.  The whole offense ran around him last year and I have no idea who would score and create offense, other than Walker, who is more of a heat check type guy.

While he's certainly not Duncan Robinson (who is?), I think if he spends a redshirt year like Duncan did working on his defense and putting on muscle he could be a very strong contributor in the right D1 situation.  He certainly looked most like a D1 player of the young Nescac players to me, because he's easily long and athletic enough to defend wings assuming he gets stronger and works hard on his skills on that end of the floor; he will be a plus ball handler and passer for a wing guy (he surely would not play point at that level); and already has the most valuable skill for a D1 wing / guard in ace distance shooting in tight spaces.  Getting to the rim vs ultra quick defenders would be a tougher challenge but again he'd have a year to work on that.

It's odd that Nescac has had so many guys looking to move up to D1 in recent years, more it seems than the rest of D3 combined.  Testament to the tremendous talent level in the league, but also I wonder if Duncan's NBA path is now putting thoughts in the head of every young superstar in the league. (Although I don't think any of last year's frosh are potential D1 guys).  Yet another thing for coaches to worry about!

NEhoops

If any current player in the league has the talent to make the jump it is Hutcherson without question.

Robinson's move to D1 was a perfect storm - he had a great first year, Maker leaves, Maker's former boss who runs a similar offense as Williams has an open scholarship.

Not sure what is driving Hutcherson's move, but seeing what Robinson did gives someone in his shoes hope for a pro career after college.

Most players want to play at the highest level when they are pursuing college opportunities and in this day and age (for better or worse) your first choice might not be the highest level, but if you perform well there might be future chances to move up.

Hutcherson's skills will translate to D1, hope everything works out for him.

Few D3 players have Duncan Robinson's ability for sustaining multiple years of hard work after entering college, love and feel for the game, interpersonal attributes, and pure skills. These and other intangibles resulted in his making it to the Heat's roster much more than any "perfect storm".

Will be rooting for Hutcherson to take the risk of trying ....

I write with the heartbreaking news that Russ Reilly has passed away.
