Plattsburgh probably deserves to host, but will they bid? They're going to have NCAA women's hockey at their rink next weekend for sure, but that's just one game.

They didn’t have any problems hosting under these conditions this weekend (plus hosting 3 high school sectional basketball games).  The hockey and basketball teams don’t play in the same building.

Also, let's not pretend the national tournament in any NCAA sport in any division is designed to get the best teams in the tournament. It isn't the best 64... it can't be when you use AQs for bids. It never was designed as such, it won't change. This isn't the pros... and even they don't get the best X amount of teams in their tournaments either.

You can question the system all you want. The system is always being tweaked to make it the best possible system to be used. It has come a long way and we are far removed from the old days when it was the old boys network at best. There are multiple ways to get into the tournament... the landscape is very transparent. It isn't like we get that many surprises each year.

Funny how Matt Webb has to annually make that same statement on d3hockey.com too!  Feels like some people don't want to understand the process - just complain about it!

Games are at 5:30 and 7:30 local time unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Due to Sabbath restrictions Yeshiva and York will tip off in York at 1:00 pm on Friday.  Hamilton and Nazareth will follow at 3:00.

The NCAA.com bracket shows the game as 1 PM on Saturday.  I assumed that was a misprint.

It's unfair to Plattsburgh and to Nichols.  Plattsburgh should be playing New England College.

I wondered about this as well.  Wouldn't this have made a better (potential) second round game?

As for Brockport and Hobart, how does the regional ranking work?  Is there a committee dedicated to the East region that ranks the teams.  If so, it would seem they saw the writing on the wall with Hobart's bid and decided to put Brockport on the table first?  They both went 0-1 last week, right?

Raise your hand if you had Brockport getting in..... The East Committee must have dropped Hobart to third in the final regional ranking.  Anyone have the comparison of Hobart and Brockport handy?  I'm at work and can't look it up right now.

Men's selection show has been delayed 1/2 hour.

It will now be at 1 PM Eastern on NCAA.com

Production issues or committee changing their minds at the last minute? ;D

So as someone who is trying to learn the selection process (I am well versed on how D-III hockey does it and I follow D-III hoops, but this is my first real time following the complete process), I am intrigued by Hobart.  People seem split on them getting in.  They have a very high WIN%, but their SOS would be the weakest of the Pool Cs (and weaker than many teams left out) and would be the only Pool C team with only one win against ranked teams (again less than many teams being left out).  Can WIN% be enough to get a team in?  On the hockey side I would predict that their SOS and RNK would sink them, but here people seem split 50/50.

Thanks, I'll hang up and listen! ;D

I spotted Titan Q's list earlier today and figured that was where you got your info.  I think he's wrong and Hobart gets in.

I believe that D3hoops will have a show tonight on Hoopsville where they do a projected 64 team field and where they will go. That's usually fairly accurate.

My question looking at his list, though, is which team would Hobart replace?  SOS and record against ranked teams doesn't seem to compare well with the teams he has listed getting in.  Unless Win % is weighted heavily...

The Pool C discussion on this board doesn't even think Hobart is getting in.  No at-large bids for the East Region...
I'll be surprised if Hobart doesn't get an at large bid. 21-5 is usually too good to be overlooked. And they will be the first team from the East Region at the table. Several sources I use both think that Hobart will get a bid.

Also not sure where you read that Hobart won't get in and no at large bids for the East Region. Here's a quote from a front page story on D3hoops that was posted late Saturday night.

Got it here....  Multi-Region topic discussion.

With Hobart losing today to Skidmore in the Liberty League semifinals and Plattsburgh State winning the SUNYAC Conference Tournament it looks like Plattsburgh will be the top ranked team in the East Region in  the next set of Regional Rankings that we won't be able to see. That should also guarantee that Plattsburgh will host a first round pod of 4 teams next weekend in the NCAA tournament. Hobart may also still host but the Cardinals should be a lock.

I would expect Plattsburgh to climb a few spots in the D3hoops Top 25 as well. Their overall record is 22-4 and their winning streak is now at 19 games.

The Pool C discussion on this board doesn't even think Hobart is getting in.  No at-large bids for the East Region...

I wondered if Plattsburgh would move up... in comparing Hobart with Plattsburgh, records are a wash:  21-4 vs. 20-4.  RNK has Plattsburgh at 3-3 and Hobart is 1-2.  SOS has Hobart at .525 and Plattsburgh at .517.  Seems like a very close comparison to me.  Is .008 a significant difference in SOS?

I see Plattsburgh received a vote in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25!  I assume that's their first mention of this year...

I thought the Plattsburgh game looked a lot like the Oswego @ Plattsburgh regular season game earlier in the year.  There was a stretch where Fitchburg either drained a 3 or walked in for a layup.  Defense completely deserted the Cards for a significant stretch.  They also had several careless unforced turnovers, especially late.  Finally, why run the clock all the way down to 15 seconds, call timeout, then take a two point shot?

It was a very frustrating end to a very exciting season.

The two first round games in Plattsburgh will be played, according to the Cardinals athletics website, on Friday evening.  The Trinity / Johnson & Wales game will tip at 5:30 with Plattsburgh and Fitchburg State playing at 7:30.
