Mr. Ypsi

IWU got one more in the top of the 6th (and with two outs got men to 2nd and 3rd, but no dice).

Mr. Ypsi

BSC finally chased Sweeney with a single, walk, and triple in the the 7th, eventually scoring 3 to go up 5-3.  The Titans got one back in the top of the 8th, but with only three outs remaining, trail 5-4.

Mr. Ypsi

AAARRGH!!  On what would have been the third out of a 1,2,3 bottom of the 8th, a throwing error got the man on.  BSC eventually capitalized with two unearned runs. >:(

The 9th is underway with BSC up 7-4.

And, moments later, that is the final score.

The NCAA is terrible at seeding these regionals. DePauw should have been #2 over Wash U based solely on their 3-1 record against the Bears this season, and Emory probably should have been #3, although after 1 & 2 the other 4 teams could have probably been placed anywhere. But they did Webster a huge favor by giving them the matchup against Wash U.

Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

IWU hangs on to knock of WashU 3-2.

Wash U is therefore eliminated, reinforcing my questioning of NCAA seeding decisions since as the #2 seed they lost to the #5 and #6 seeds.

Emory lost to DePauw yesterday and Birmingham Southern today. Emory is eliminated.

Mr. Ypsi

Am I reading the schedule correctly that BSC plays the winner of the currently-ongoing Webster/DePauw game at noon tomorrow (winners' bracket) followed at 3:30 by IWU vs. the loser of Webster/DePauw (elimination game)?

That's correct according to what the announcer is saying, and makes sense as the winner of Webster/DePauw will be undefeated and IWU and the loser will have one loss each. However, it would make more sense for the losers game to be played first and the winners game to be played second.

The announcer just noted that both UAA teams were the first two to be eliminated.

Mr. Ypsi

Webster 10, DePauw 2.  (It was still a game until the bottom of the 8th when Webster tacked on 5 more runs.)

Tomorrow: noon (CDT) BSC vs. Webster; 3:30 IWU vs. DePauw; 7 loser of noon game vs. winner of 3:30 game.

Having the schedule this way rewards the team that goes 2-0 and then loses by giving them a break in between games.

Got it. This makes sense.

Mr. Ypsi

After five, Webster 5, BSC 0(!)

Steven Dooley has yielded only one hit to one of the best offenses in d3!

y_jack_lok

A 5 hit complete game for Dooley after pitching 3 innings of relief Wednesday and 2.1 innings yesterday.

VERY impressive - but will he be able to lift his arm by morning? ;)

Webster is now guaranteed a spot in the title game(s) tomorrow, facing the survivor of IWU/DePauw coming up next, then that winner vs. BSC in the late game today.
