Paul...
Only problem with your WPI - Eastern game, your assuming Minor will beat Suffolk and then Fahey will outduel Gilblair or Musson in 2nd round. I really like Fahey but WPI and Fahey have not seen the likes of this kind of lineup.

I'm just throwing out some guesses.  I'm probably wrong.

I'll take a stab at some predictions

I'll make my predictions ignoring the losers bracket

WPI over Suffolk (Fahey never leaves the dugout)
ECSU over Babson
Trinity over Westfield
Southern Maine over Husson

WPI over ECSU (Fahey participates)
Southern Maine over Trinity (Bayer sees that Colby, Wesleyan, and Bates aren't walking through that door)

Southern Maine over WPI

what do others think?

I doubt it will happen this year or anytime soon (and I've said this before) but I wish the NCAA would do more mixing and matching with the New England, New York, & Mid Atlantic Regionals.

By my quick google maps calculations EVERY team projected to be in those 3 regionals are within 500 miles of ALL THREE sites.

Take the 24 teams you pick to go to those regionals, rank them 1-24 and put them in regions like this

One Regional is 1, 6, 7, 12, 13, 18, 19, & 24 seeds
Another is 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, & 23 seeds
Last is 3, 4, 9, 10, 15, 16, 21, & 22 seeds

it is supposed to be one large national tournament and not 8 regional tournaments, why not do this?

To clarify my earlier comment.

I meant the time on the calendar that the win took place should not effect how important the win is/was.

Of course in any level of college when you get to playoff bids, the level of the competition does matter that said wins came against matters.

I might be in the minority here but I think a game is a game is a game (assuming the competition is equal).  Other than conference tournament games (that result in an AQ) I think that a win on March 3rd should count the same as a win on April 3rd and count the same as a win on May 3rd.

I actually don't understand why more teams don't want to play in the ECAC tournament.  I think it is a good chance to get a few more wins in before the NCAA tournament field is chosen.  The field this year is as follows...

1.  WPI
2.  Worcester State
3.  Castleton State
4.  Wentworth
5.  Castleton State
6.  Plymouth State

So much for it being the best field ever.

The tournament starts this week and finishes this weekend, which is why you don't get too many LEC and NESCAC teams in the tourney, as it conflicts with the conference tournament.

If you got the best teams that aren't playing in a conference tournament this weekend or already received an AQ in this tournament it may look like this

1.  Curry
2.  Wheaton
3.  WPI
4.  Worcester
5.  St. Joe's Maine
6.  Roger Williams

The winner of this tournament would be almost guaranteed to add two more in region quality wins to their resume (it is a single elimination tournament)

I know teams have played in both before (Brandies and Suffolk come to mind) but I am guessing it is frowned upon to play in this tournament if you already have an AQ to the NCAA (probably more kosher to let other teams play)

Word--I was at the game today also and agree it was a little strange set up.  Not a bleacher anywhere and the "best" vantage point I got of the game was when I stood in straight away center field on top of the back of the football bleachers.

From up there you could tell that the wind was really blowing out, which you would think would have helped Curry more than WNEC as Curry had twice as many home runs on the season as WNEC did coming into the game--but then again maybe the wind always blows out there and that played a role in the high HR total

Stump--You bring up an argument that my friends and I always have (even though you probably didn't mean to) when it comes to the D-I Basketball tournament selection.  You asked if Curry had the pitching to win the regional, that brings me to the debate my friends and I have, who do you give an at large bid to....

A--The team that has the best chance to win the tournament / go farthest in the tournament

or

B--The team that has the most impressive season resume.

I vote for option A

Not saying that means Curry should be in or that you were saying you would pick option A

My mistake, sorry about that one.

With that info and the MASCAC tourney going final it looks like we have five New England Teams in...

Suffolk--GNAC AQ
Babson--NEWMAC AQ
WNEC--TCCC AQ
Westfield--MASCAC AQ
Husson--NAC AQ

I think

NAC: Castleton State - Don't see any reason why the #1 seed and last year's qualifier shouldn't get it again this year.

I don't think there is an AQ for the NAC this year.  Last year they dropped below the 7 teams needed and I think they got one year to get back to 7 teams.  They did not, so no AQ this year.  I think they are combining forces with the NEAC next year to get the AQ back.  But I am pretty sure even though Husson won the NAC tourney they will not be in Mansfield this year.

Wondering what people think of the new conference tournament format in the LEC.  Personally I like it better than the 6 team double elimination.  I think it should be flipped around though, instead of 3 game series to play into the 4 team double elimination tournament I would like two 4 team double elimination to play into one three game series for the title.  what are other people's thoughts?

New England Region / Re: BB: LEC: Little East Conference
February 02, 2009, 10:52:20 PM
I was looking a a 2009 schedule and it looks like the LEC is changing the format of the conference tournament.  Over two weekends, top four teams make it and play best of three games series.  I personally love this idea.  Does anyone have any confirmation on this?

Does anybody see any players coming out of New England that are going to be drafted come next week?

Baseball America rates Kiely as the 14th ranked prospect from lower New England (Connecticut & Rhode Island)
Even though me is from Mass, he is listed by where he attended college.  See below.  Some players had write ups about them (even some rated lower than Kiely) but he did not

NATIONAL TOP 200 PROSPECTS

1. Anthony Hewitt, ss/of, Salisbury (Conn.) School (National Rank: 41)

Posters should not have any impact on an All-American team. That's just misguided.

I don't think that posting has a huge effect on the voting (or any at all actually).  I just think that it helps to get peoples names out there.  and maybe I was just trying to rally the troops or new england posters to get out there and post more.  Things have actually really picked up in the new england posting area.  heck on February 14th 2007 (I looked up the day) I started this general new england thread because there really wasn't any activity on the boards overall.  Now the Harwich regional page from this year has 14 pages of posts.  that is cool.

Wow, I started a message board thread on Valentines Day, at 7:14 pm no less.  That is rough.

I have a few theories about why New England kids may be at a slight disadvantage when it comes to national honors.

1.  Most teams go on a spring trip in March and then season is basically April 1st to the first week in May.  That is about 6 weeks of games.  The games are so bunched together that it is VERY hard for pitchers to pitch as many innings as guys in the south and west (and even parts of the mid atlantic).  This hurts hitters too, I think it is tough put up those numbers every day with playing 7-8 games and week where it is easier to put up numbers with playing 4-5 games per week (I know I am arguing both sides here since it is a zero sum game, meaning if it is harder for the pitchers and harder for the hitters it is then harder for neither, but I think it may play a role).  Pitcher of the year Kenny Moreland started 13 games and pitched 100 innings, if a new england kid pitched that much he'd have to be throwing a complete game every time out and doing it on 3 days rest (guessing, i didn't really do the math).

Another way that this factors in is with a kid getting banged up.  Say a kid from Chapman (first California team I thought of) fouls a ball of his ankle really badly and is banged up.  It happened in the 8th inning of Sunday's game.  Coach says, "hey just stay off the ankle for 4 days"  That kid misses 1 game (and possibly none).  In New England that kid missing those days could miss up to 3-4 games.  And what is more likely to happen is that he will just play through it and possibly hamper him for a longer time.

2.  Weather factors in again.  Teams go south or west and play against teams that are in full swing.  They aren't going to win that many games and also not put up huge batting averages, ERAs, or wins for pitchers.  A pitcher comes back from spring break with a 1-1 record and a 5.30 ERA that hurts them all year long.  The 8 teams (I through out trinity since they were undefeated for the season and 1-0 on spring break) that made the NCAA tournament were 44-41 on their spring trips this year.

3.  In this one I am coming after the New England posters here.  Get out there, talk about new england baseball.  I don't have time, or access to really determine this with facts but, I think you will notice that on national boards there are a lot more people posting and talking about kids from other regions.  I am guessing that a lot of people that vote read these boards.  Nothing wrong with talking guys up (facts based, not "this guy is nasty").  You get someone's name out there it may help (or not help, these are just theories) when it comes time for those voters to vote.

Just my thoughts, thought throw it out there and see what people think.
