No discussion on the possibility of UST joining the WIAC? The Minneapolis Tribune had an article yesterday discussing their options should they get booted from the MIAC. They have not been officially kicked out, but it looks like they are likely to. Gary Karner and Pat Coleman were quoted. Both were welcoming, or at least neutral in their comments.

Well, if the WIAC allows it, it could be a very positive.  The competition will be greater in the conference, I really think the MIAC will potentially receive more competition for recruiting in state from WIAC schools.  Face it, MIAC boot the Tommies, sends a message to families and recruits about competition.  I could see where it could be really good for Stout, RF, EC and LC recruiting.

On a different site, it was heavily discussed that St. Thomas will be going the division 2 route.

I would say that "will" is definitely the wrong word.

If UST goes to Division 2 NSIC, there will be no chance non-conference games and the continuation of the UST vs. St. Johns competition ,one of the best in D3. The WIAC football schedule has room for the continuation.

If UST joins the WIAC, does that mean the conference name has to change?

The College Conference of Illinois was gracious enough to add the "W", so...

... but the MIAA didn't add an 'O' when Defiance joined, or an 'I' when St. Mary's (IN) joined. Heck, now there's two Indiana schools in the league (St. Mary's and Trine), and it's still called the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

UST and the entire WIAC will move to D2, and operate as the Upper Midwest Conference. 🤩 🤫

The Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association became the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association as the membership moved Westward but Midwest is still open.  Incidentally, the GLVC conference will have more schools in Missouri than Illinois and Indiana combined and only one school near the Great Lakes.
