I played a round of golf today and there were kangaroos on the course.  I got pretty close to this one before it started growling at me. You can see my head's shadow at the bottom of the picture.

Kangaroos growl? Hilarity!

This goes in the "you learn something new everyday" category for me too.

I envisioned Oz to be a little taller.  :)

Mr.MIAC

Following on from my Redskins post earlier in the week, here's another question. Is it kosher to be a fan of the Vikings and the Packers if you live outside the region? This came up during a conversation last night at our local sports bar. A couple of us grew up in the Twin Cities and still have family ties to MN, but have also been living elsewhere for over a decade. None of us really like the Redskins for pretty legitimate reasons (mostly because they aren't all that good nowadays). However, I found it interesting that each of us claimed to be fans of both the Vikings and the Packers.

My justification: My MN-based family were always Vikings fans, but plenty of our relatives were Packers fans living just over the border in WI. I remember lots of banter between the two groups, but it was always good-natured and for the most part respectful (sort of like the UST/SJU banter). Since leaving I've come to think of MN and WI people as far more similar than different. For example, I tend to refer to MN, WI, SD, and ND as part of "the North." I can't leave the Vikings even with all the utter disappointments (e.g. the 1998 playoff loss to the Falcons was scarring) because of fond childhood memories. I appreciate the Packer's for their history as the only remaining vestige of small-market football (kind of reminds me of DIII), community ownership, and some of their players who've been class acts (e.g. Reggie White, Bret Favre, etc.). I cheer for the Vikings when the two teams play each other, but otherwise I'm happy when at least one of them is doing well.

Anyway, what do you think...kosher or not?

Mr. Ypsi

Rev, as a Lions fan, I'll defer your question to others.  But if you're gonna phrase it as 'kosher...', should we change your handle to Rabbi MIAC? ;)  (I AM pretty sure it is illegal to be simultaneously a Packers and Bears fan; Vikes and Packers ...??)

Hmm, you make a good point. However, though still tied to an Abrahamic faith, "rabbi" might be a little too specific considering that my "credential" was acquired online in order to officiate a friend's wedding.

I know, let's go with something a little more neutral. In Hebrew the word "rabi" means "my master." The word "master" translates to Hebrew as "rav" and literally means the "great one," which seems appropriate given my status as a Tommie. ;) I've updated my handle accordingly...

Mr. Ypsi

Former Rev, Wayne Gretzky has a copyright on that handle.  (Actually, I think he was always a little embarrassed by 'The Great One', so he probably does not have a copyright.  But his agent might! ;D)

Now that's funny, 76.  Very funny.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Tomorrow is a great and important day in beer history. It is the 80th anniversary of beer being available in cans.

+1 -- in my life I have drunk soda from glass bottles more often than I have drunk beer from a can. And even more so when you exclude college. :)

Actually, many higher-end beers are going to cans these days.  Just look at Surly.  Light-degradation is a problem with beer, and what better way to protect beer from light than a can?

There used to be a stigma that canned beer = cheap beer, but I'd actully prefer can to bottle.

I like canned beer but I'm more of a simpleton, I really prefer draft beer.
