I'd rather HC beat LC any time  :)..... so, for me, it went well. of course with no disrespect nor attempting to disparage LC, in any way :)

4 for 4 last week on picks.  2 games for conference teams this weekend with big stakes on both.
Starting off with the playoff match-up between Berry and Huntingdon.  These 2 teams have 3 common opponents.  Both beat LaGrange and Maryville and lost to Birmingham-Southern.  Huntingdon's loss to UW-Oskosh looks better after they upset UWW last weekend and made the playoffs.  The NCWC loss at home for Huntingdon is the real blemish to a good resume.  This will pit strength against strength with Huntingdon's offense against Berry's defense.  That will be fun to watch but I think Berry's offense will have success against the Hawk's defense.  I don't like to but I will take Berry for the win.
Secondly we have the make-up game between Shenandoah and Methodist.  The ODAV-vs-USAC overall record going into this game is 4-4.  Averett went 2-1, NCWC went 1-1, Huntingdon 1-0, Greensboro 0-1, and Methodist currently sits at 0-1.  Shenandoah is at 5-4 and finished in 5th in the ODAC.  Methodist is at 4-5 and T5th in the USAC.  I unfortunately think that this will be a lopsided affair in favor of the Hornets.  There are two common opponents in NCWC and Guilford on both teams resume.  Shenandoah beat both teams and Methodist lost to both teams.  The forecast in Winchester for Saturday is a high of 41 with possible rain/snow showers.  I believe I may have made mention when the game was announced to be rescheduled for this weekend that this would be a possibility.  The Monarchs from SC, GA, and FL will have a tough time with the weather and if things do not go well early this game could get out of hand.  Shenandoah wins and the ODAC yet again wind the OOC battle 5-4

AU I like all of your end of year picks but I will throw Bill Khayat's name in the coach of the year from Brevard.  He took the Tornados from 4-6 last year to 7-2 this season and were picked to finish 6th in the conference this year.  Had it not been for the head scratching loss to Methodist they would have a piece of the conference title this year.  I also would not be surprised if he was courted for another job.  He worked at Tennessee State University from 2000-2003 and again from 2013-2015.  He also had some time in the NFL with the Cardinals and the Redskins from 2004-2009.  He had a stint in the UFL and at a JC.  This is his first head coaching job and he is only 46 years old.  If he and his family are content living in the mountains of NC (which I would be) then maybe they have found a permanent home.  If not this may just be the start of his coaching career.  I will also throw Taj Outten from Methodist in the list for potential def roy with 52 total tackles, 2 picks, and 1 TD.  Also I would include Tapscott from Averett along with Westberry for STPOY.  I'm not sure it is easily accessible but I would love to know Averett's average starting field position after a kickoff.  Tapscott averaged 40 yards per return on 11 tries and 2 TDs.  How many times did a kick go out of bounds to avoid him or kicked short?  If Westberry had been more consistent on his FGs I don't think there is any debate.  His punting and kickoffs are very strong as well as 96% on XP.

Did Brevard get an ECAC game or have they been announced yet? Looking at the list of teams signed up, it would be a pretty long trip for somebody.

Edit: Just found it. Brevard goes to Carnegie Mellon.

Pittsburgh.  Good luck Brevard and Huntingdon this weekend.

Never mind defensive ROY is Randy Fillingame from LaGrange.  He is the Panthers leading tackler on the year with 79.  He also had 1 sack, 5 TFL, 2 FF, and 2 INT.

I'll take Brevard to beat Carnegie Mellon with the winning score below 20 points.

Alright AU I gave the way to early 2020 prediction a shot as well.  I looked at the rosters and made the assumption that all the players who contributed statistically (a big sorry to the OL I did not look at listed starters to see who would be returning) as well as the head coaches.  Here is how I think they stack up next season:

1. Brevard- They are only losing 1 SR WR, 1 SR DL, and 1 SR DB.  The QB will be a JR with 2 full years starting experience.  They are returning 16 of their top 18 defensive players which includes a stacked secondary.  Their top 3 runners will be JRs or SOs next season offensively.
2. Huntingdon- They will be hit hard by graduation offensively with the QB, top 4 WRs, and the top HB.  They will also suffer losses along the defensive front with 2 SRs.  Their top RB will be a SR next year and a rising SO saw some time in the backfield but there are 3 SR RBs that will be missed.  I think the strength of this team will be on the defensive side of the field especially until the new starter gets up to speed.
3. Methodist- I don't think that this is a homer pick (at least I hope not).  They are returning the rising SO QB who will have started 9 games after this weekend.  He will also have his top 3 WRs back.  The offense will lose the top 2 RBs to graduation but will return at least 8 players up front who had starting/playing experience.  The defense will lose the starting 2 inter DL and 2 secondary players but return 14 out of the top 18 players including the best safety, ILB, OLB, and DE.  The kicker, punter, and best returner are back also.
4. Averett- Graduation will hit the Cougars hard on the offensive side with the SR QB and top 3 RBs leaving.  On defense the top LB and most of the secondary are moving on.  All of the WRs will be back and the majority of the DL.  I also believe that the loss of the SR K/P will show as there is typically not a lot of depth at any level of football at those positions.
5. Maryville- The offense was a mess at times this year.  They are returning 3 QBs that played who will all be rising JRs so hopefully the spring will get that position sorted out.  They are returning the best RB in the conference but losing a starting WR and TE.  Defensively they are losing 8 of the top 18 players including 3 up front and 4 on the back end.  They will also be looking for new specialists in 2020.
6. LaGrange- They are returning what will likely be the offensive ROY in the conference and perhaps the defensive ROY.  They also started multiple QBs in 2019 and will have a rising SR, JR, and SO to pick from during spring ball.  All of the WRs will be there for the QB to throw to as well.
7. NCWC- I think these guys are hit the hardest by graduation.  On offense the QB, TE, 2 RB, and 4 out of 5 OL (I knew their starting 5 from looking at it prior to MU homecoming).  They are returning a rising SR RB and 3 rising JR WRs along with one SR OL.  The defense is losing 3 out of 4 DL, the top to LB, and 2 SR DBs.  There will be some returning players in the secondary.
8. Greensboro- They are losing their best player Bagley in the secondary and returning kicks.  They are returning their 2 best LBers

The offseason conditioning program, spring ball, retention, and recruiting will play a big hand in who will come out on top in 2020.  This year with there being so much turnover (top three teams and graduation) I'm not sure where we will end up in November next year.  This was the 20th season of USAC football this year and so far we have had 8 teams win or share the conference title.  Gone are CNU with 10 titles, Ferrum with 4, and Shenandoah with 2.  Remaining are Huntingdon with 4, Maryville with 4, NCWC with 3, Methodist with 2, and Averett with one.  Only Huntingdon (4 times), Maryville (twice), and NCWC (twice) have been to the playoffs.

Wild Horse Rider

The all-conference team came out yesterday and there were not very many surprises in my eyes other than a WR winning offensive POY.  It happened once previously in 2015 but Malik Adams from NCWC had over 1,300 receiving yards and 19 TDs that year.  That award has gone to a QB or a RB every other time.  I can't say that I really have a strong argument against Porter though.  Averett led the way with 12 total selections 9 of them being 1st team.  They were followed by NCWC, Huntingdon, and Maryville with 9 selections each.  NCWC had 7 of those selections on the 1st team.  Methodist had 6, Brevard had 4, and LaGrange had 3 (also the defensive ROY who did not make 1st or 2nd team).  Greensboro was shut out.  Averett, Huntingdon, Methodist, and Brevard are each bringing back 4 all-conference players for 2020.  NCWC and Maryville bring back 3 each and LaGrange will have 2.  A few players to watch out for in 2020 are:
Running back- Thomas from Huntingdon is a rising SR
Running back- Brunch from Maryville is a rising JR
Wide Receiver- Mosby from Averett is a rising JR
Wide Receiver- Roberts from NCWC is a rising JR
Offensive Line- Hixon from Huntingdon is a rising JR (1st team as a SO so he must be the real deal)
Defensive Line- Ledbetter from Averett is a rising JR and I believe is only 1.5 sacks away from tying the Averett career record and he could flirt with the conference record of 39 if he progresses
Linebacker- Caldwell from Huntingdon is a rising SR
Defensive Back- Anderson from Brevard is a rising SR
Defensive Back- Graham from NCWC is a rising SR

Looks like it is going to be a rainy day tomorrow.  Wishing good travel to Rome for the Huntingdon team and fans.

I hope to see a big crowd, but I know this rain will keep some fans away.

It is going to be a tough game, and you never know about football when it is wet.  Anything can happen.

What a terrific game. Really proud of the way these guys fought today. Outside of the first TD drive our offense had a hard time getting anything going in the first half but our defense did a great job keeping things close until we could make a couple of big plays in the second half.
A second trip to UMHB means we will need to execute better on offense to put up some kind of challenge. Looking forward to seeing what we can do.
