Not in the D3.com era......but 9 and 1 (lost 17 to 14 to JMU) HSC hosted Albany State in 1977 playoffs. I was the "ball boy" on the AS side of the field. One of the craziest games I ever witnessed. Tigers losing 35 to 8 at half.....tied the game 38 to 38 before losing 51 to 45.

Allsky

you are correct. Mr. Ferguson had many touches as well. baseball is the sport that ruined him for his senior year.
minus that knee injury his records would have been even more impressive.

The thing that I remember most about Mr. Ferguson......to look at him it was hard to believe how great a back he was. He was not big.....not particularly fast.....but it was amazing how hard it was to knock him off his feet. Weebles wobble but they don't fall down. He had a pretty good cast around him and I seem to recall he also had a pretty good blocking back aiding him.  ;D

I am sure the HS streak over GC will end at some point......hopefully it continues one more year. (Sorry Hasa) If the Quakes beat the Tigers....I too will be pulling for them to beat E&H and get the (unlikely) at large.

Jk

We grow them tough in Virginia. Lets not go the path of baseball are start counting touches like they do pitches, that would ruin football like it has baseball. I get your point but I don't think it really matters. Most carries in one game by an HSC back is 52, Koonce is no where close, he'll be ok.

Tracy Powers vs RMC I do believe.

Seen the Jackets start slow and finish strong too many times. No science behind this call......just gut.......Macon beats Shenny.  :o

Tigers have to stop getting behind in Q1 on TO's.......H-S wins but will be by single digit margin.

E&H beats W&L at home....IMHO Wasp are due for a big win.

Quakes beat CUA by a couple TD's.

.......and MARYVILLE wins D3 NC in Salem over Purple Raiders.  Oh sorry....delusion on wrong board.  ;D
What are you smoking, allsky7?  lol

Hey.....I picked your Quakers Hasa! A bold call.....I know. LOL Actually....I was just seeing who was paying attention.  ;D GO TIGERS.....GO FIGHTING SCOTS!

Hard to spot a good team 14 points on TO's the first two possessions of the game and win.....even though the Tigers almost pulled it off. Question......no doubt Kounce is a great back but when was the last time a H-S team ran the ball 4 plays in a row? (other than killing the clock after the game decided) Not a criticism......just an observation.

another classic mu vs. mvc game...i was watching on live stats all afternoon, and i kept saying "just hold on boys"...i knew there would be a crazy finish...there almost always is with mu and mvc - when i saw that mu gave the ball back to mvc with a couple minutes left (in really good field position, too), i had a pit in my stomach

senior leadership at the qb position is big in close games, and pittenger is as good as it gets in this conference...kid went 5-5 for 48 yards on the game-winning drive...that's what senior qb's do

The headline in the paper in Maryville for one of the articles on the game reads "Just A Typical Methodist vs Maryville Game".

IMHO......ETSU at this point is more in line with a mid level ish D3 team. They would wax the bottom of the USA South and ODAC. The top tier D3 teams would wax ETSU.

After observing the first 4 weeks of the season played against non-conference opponents, the reality is that the USA-South is not a good conference this season.  Our conference was 8-16 during against non-conference teams with Ferrum, LaGrange, Averett and N.C. Wesleyan compiling 0-3 records.  That's 50% of our conference teams.

With the exception of Maryville's win against Emory & Henry, most of the conference wins were against low-end teams.  (I know much was made against MC's win against East Tennessee, but Emory & Henry beat ETSU 2 weeks later.  In reality ETSU is a JV team with playing with just freshmen and is not better than a low end D-3 team).

Methodist got crushed by Guilford.  Huntingdon lost to Birmingham-Southern for the first time and their 2 wins are against teams who have not won a game this season.  Greensboro's only win was against Gallaudet.

I was expecting good things this season from LaGrange, but we are 0-3 and were favored in all 3 of their losses.   BTW, Air-Mumme's dad at Belhaven, Hal Mumme is 0-4 which makes the Mumme family 0-7 this season.

Why has this been a continued problem for our conference year after year???

So you're saying Greensboro, Averett, Ferrum, NCWC, and LaGrange can beat ETSU as well? ETSU's team of freshmen would wax the rest of the conference. Huntingdon could scored some points on them, but make no mistake- they are not a "low end D3 team". No matter the situation, anytime a non-scholarship program beats a scholarship program it's a good win. Plain and simple.

MC beat E&H 30-13 without Trenton Shuler in the line up. That's by 17 without the offensive stud making the trip. Pretty impressive, I'd say.

You can clump the USAC teams into the "terrible" category if you want, but MC is not one of them.

Maryville 43, Berry 17 (Berry is now 3-1)
Maryville 28, ETSU 21
Maryville 30, E&H 13 (E&H is now 2-1, playing RMC today, and was picked second in the ODAC)

And the problems for the USAC are recruiting and facilities..

Was thrilled to see the Tigers and Fighting Scots play this year. When I heard the announcement of the pairing....was a whoopin and a fist pumpin!  ;D A great match up for both teams. Next year.....MC gets the W.  ;) Will give Coach S your regards. Anyone that knows him will get a kick out of this. At 77 years old.....he started a new job today at a grocery store....because he wanted to. Old School.....just don't make em that way any more.

Bobby Saylor was the HFC and AD prior to Lambert. He also coached baseball one year he was there.

"a "football guy" would never be an AD at Maryville."

A "football guy" WAS AD at Maryville!   Bottom line........it takes support from the very top down for there to be sustained success.  Hopefully.....now that MC has tasted the playoffs.....it will continue to grow and the Fighting Scots will become a force on the national stage.

As a former Fighting Scot.....I couldn't be more proud of their performance yesterday. A few tough breaks didn't go their way in Q4. They are a fundamentally sound and well coached group. They are also young. I fully expect the Scots to be back in the thick of things again next year.  Many of us have been waiting 30 years for yesterday. I felt like the Tiger D would be the difference if the Scots didn't create some TO's. MC actually had more total offense but the Tiger D got stops when they had to. I only jumped off the Tiger wagon yesterday.....now I am back on. GO TIGERS beat Linfield! Anyone that follows D3 knows HS will be a decided underdog next Saturday but I totally agree.....if you aren't going west to win.....stay off the plane!

Oh and one more thing.....who was that guy on here last week that predicted if the Scots weren't at least +2 in the TO category.....that the final score would be 42 to 31?  ;D

LOL!!! I moved back to the Commonwealth in 1987.  Been hiding out in the mountains of Amherst County for the last decade or so. Did you say refreshments?  :o

I'll get my best duds dry cleaned. I'll be the one Sat. that looks like the guy at the link below.  ;)

Speaking of CNU.....not sure what to make of that as far as H-S versus MC  is concerned. I did not see either the Scots or Tigers play them. Not sure how you beat anyone turning the ball over 8 times. What jumped out at me is the fact that Tiger D only allowed 17 points in spite of that. On the MC side of things.....after the CNU win in NN.....I knew this had the makings of a special season for the Scots.

As an old school guy.....wouldn't hurt my feelings if I am totally wrong on my predictions and we see a good clean defensive struggle.
