Wisconsin Lutheran will be playing an exhibition game against Milwaukee (or UWM as I still call it) on Sunday. Milwaukee went 9-20 overall and 5-11 in the Horizon league last year.

The school still is UWM. The athletic teams though go by Milwaukee. It's like Virginia Tech. The athletic teams go by Virginia Tech. The school is actually Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Never really saw the reason to do such for UWM and UWGB. Though CBS used "Wisconsin-Milwaukee" moniker when the Panthers made the NCAA's when Pearl was coaching.

Speaking of UWM and WLC, the Warriors trail the Panthers 33-30 with less than 3 minutes left in the 1st half.

UW-Milwaukee pulls away from WLC late in the second half winning 89-62. The Warriors were tied with the Panthers at half 36-36 and were within 5 with about 7 minutes remaining in the game but the Warriors faded down the stretch.

Alverno and Rockford also have exhibition matchups against Mount Mary and North Central (IL) respectively this Friday.

Opening Weekend is upon us!!

Friday 11/15

Calvin at Lakeland: Hard to be against a strong program like Calvin even if they are in a slightly down year.

Rockford at Chicago: Don't know much about either team but taking the Maroons.

Dominican at Knox: Stars could be in for another long year as they don't bring back much from last seasons one win team.

Saturday, 11/16

Rockford vs Coe (IA) or Illinois Tech: If Coe then I'm taking Coe, but if Illinois Tech I'll hedge my bets and take the Regents in a tight game.

Goshen (IN) at Benedictine: BU shouldn't have too many issues with their NAIA opponent.

Aurora at Monmouth (IL): The carousel that is the Aurora WBB coaching staff continued offseason. They are in for a long year.

Westminster (PA) at Dominican: No clue on the PA version of Westminster but they should have no problems here.

Concordia Wisconsin at Augustana: Good measuring stick game for the Falcons but it's hard not to bet against the CCIW here.

Loras at Edgewood: Barometer game for the Eagles.

Sunday 11/17

Dubuque at Edgewood: Same as Saturday's game.

My 11/15 guesses:

Calvin
U of Chicago (has more talls than Rockford, depends on how the Maroons use those talls)
Knox:   (sounds like it could be a track meet if the Prairie Fire has few turnovers-)

11/16:

Rockford/IL Tech:  IL Tech has a deeper bench, but the Regents have a height advantage-I'll go with Rockford in a tight one.
Goshen/Benedictine:  Potential track meet #2, Goshen's already played a handful of games, but I'll go with the IL Eagles at home.
Aurora/Monmouth:  Monmouth
Westminster-PA/Dominican:  Westminster's got more experience coming back-(per their prospectus), going with the PA squad on this one.
CUW/Augustana-IL;  Going with CUW, just to go against the grain
Loras/Edgewood:  Iowa squad, again, has height advantage-going with Duhawks on the road.

11/17

Dubuque/Edgewood:  Dubuque (on paper, more depth off bench)

Captain_Joe08

WLCAlum, you nailed it on the head for the Dominican/Knox game.

Knox 105
Dominican 93

Calvin 65
Lakeland 45

Chicago 87
Rockford 45

Slow start for the NACC but not out of the ordinary with the competition they faced last night. Perhaps today will be the day the NACC teams pick up their first wins of the year.

What got me on the Stars/Prairie Fire match-up:  A  Knox erupted for 61 2nd half points  B  Knox also got boatloads of points off steals and Dominican turnovers.

(Wonder how much higher the final scores on the women's side will be--especially if more squads with enough bench depth go up-tempo with the new 10-second rule, anyway).

11/19-11/21 Games

11/19

Marian at UW-Stout: Not sure what we've got in Marian this year.

Knox at Rockford: Going on a hunch.

Alverno at Illinois Tech: Illinois Tech will be taking their lumps this year as an Independent.

Mount Mary at Wisconsin Lutheran: WLC pounds a Mount Mary team that is back from a year hiatus.

Wheaton (IL) at Aurora: This will be over early.

Mounmouth (IL) at Benedictine: Was thinking about picking BU for this one but losing to Goshen over the weekend changed my mind.

11/20

Concordia Wisconsin at Carroll: Toss up.

Elmhurst at Dominican: This will be over by halftime.

11/21

Edgewood at Alverno: Edgewood is still a mystery to me. Going with the proven team here.

11/20:

CUW:    (my "hunch")
Elmhurst

11/21:

Alverno in a tight one

WLCALUM83

Two 11/19/13 scores and observations:

Rockford 118, Knox 96   (Captain Joe's hunch was correct)  Rockford:  "I'll see Knox's 61 pt outburst against Dominican and raise them a 63 pt. 2nd half output of our own"

UW-Stout 89, Marian 74   (Sabers hit 15  3s in the game. Though Stout pulled away in the 2nd half,  Jarvey had 5 blocked shots in her first start in a Marian uniform)

Captain_Joe08

Seems that every game on Knox's schedule could be a shootout.

Alverno 83
Illinois Tech 27

Alverno held Tech to 36 total field goal attempts for the game (8/36).

Wheaton 74
Aurora 46

Aurora shot 24% for the game.

Monmouth (IL) 74
Benedictine 57

Sluggish first half doomed the Eagles.

Wisconsin Lutheran 104
Mount Mary 36

2nd highest point total for the Warriors in school history. Only thing that was a problem for them was 8/18 shooting from the charity stripe.

Knox women are playing the Grinnell System. North Central (Ill.) women are playing a modified version of the system too.

Well WLCAlum we were right on both of our hunches.

Concordia Wisconsin 62

Deciding factor was the free throws (CUW 18-28, Carroll 11-16)

Elmhurst 86
Dominican 47
