Congratulations to Toby Marek, whose being named to the All-CCIW team for a second straight season is a nice capstone on a fine career as a Viking.

Carter Duwa was a bit of a surprise for FOY, because I thought that he had played at least a little bit last year. Turns out that he hadn't, so he was eligible for the award. No complaints here about his beating out Mike Osborne (and Justin Steinike, as well) for the award.

I'm not the least bit surprised that Nyameye Adom won MOP. I knew it wouldn't be Fillip Bulatovic, even though he's the league's best player, because, as I said the other day, the coaches don't like to give that award to sophomores as long as there's an upperclassman who is at least vaguely in the vicinity of being the top player in the CCIW (which Adom certainly is). Again, no complaints.

I think that the only player who really got ripped off is Cade Alioth, who most certainly deserved to be on first team. But I get why the coaches did not want to put three Wheaton players on first team, especially when Wesleyan didn't have three, either. The fact that it's well-known that Alioth is coming back for a fifth year might've been a factor in how that vote went as well.

Carter played some early in the year but got injured in December and redshirted.  Can he win Freshman of the year again next year since this year doesn't count towards eligibility?  As a 3rd year freshman standing he has quite a bit of returning experience.

Augustana 98 Milikin 82 this afternoon.  Augie jumped out to a 17 - 4 lead just over 5 minutes into the game on the hot shooting of Luke Johnson (22 pts 5-5 3pt) and Carter Duwa 29pts, and led 45-31 at the half.  Daniel Carr recorded a double double with 21 and 12.

Milikin was lead by Calvin Fisher with 26 and 4, and Scott Gowan with 20 points.

10 total free throws were shot in the 1st half, and the whistles came more frequently in the 2nd with 41 free throws attempted, even though the lead never dipped below 13 points until there was 2 minutes left in the game.

Will be interesting to see what adjustments are made as they face off again in just under 27 hour from now.

Listened to D-Mac's Hoopsville interview with Grey Giovanine, which I really enjoyed.

The best part was when Grey mentioned Augustana's medical school. :D

That particular CCIW Chat trope has turned out to be worth all the corn in Manito.

Now that's an LOL and a +1.

Grey stated they don't have a med school but a med program. I know it's a long running joke on this board, but there is an actual program. One of my roomates was pre-med, another pre-dentistry and I was a slacker business major.

It was a sensational tournament this weekend. Culminating in a hard fought championship game ,between two teams who could very well do it all over again next year. The CCIW is fortunate to have some great coaches . Raridon, Schafer, Ron Rose, and John Baines. I beleaguered the coach at Carroll is a excellent coach as well. His team never quits no matter what. That's a good sign of things to come for Carroll.

Guys, I think we're back on Jacket Watch given the obvious omission here...
He's only coached in every CCIW tournament. Tough crowd if he's not considered a great coach.

OK, who had 4:47 in the first half for the Ron Rose jacket removal/not quite toss?

Did you see how, immediately after he started pulling it off, one of the student managers came out of nowhere and stepped onto the floor, and Giovanine tossed the sportcoat to him while barely looking in the kid's direction?

"OK, Mike, it says here on your résumé that you were a student manager for your college's men's basketball team. Tell me about that, and tell me how that prepared you for the kind of management job that you're seeking with us."

"Well, sir, I had the most important job out of all of the student managers on the team. My job was to catch the coach's sportcoat when he tossed it away during a game!"

Ah - the original comment misidentified Grey as Ron Rose.  For a minute there I thought  the jacket toss might have mutated into an infectious disease and started spreading to other coaches in the conference.  :D

I was confused as well, but had the over because it happened at the 11:59 mark. With Augie coming out of the gates slow, I was surprised it lasted that long.

Augustana 83
Carthage 81

Crazy ending at Carver as well.

I don't know what's the craziest moment in the last 9 seconds:
1. Crishawn Cook gets called for a carry a move both teams did all night without getting called previously
2. Cook while trying to hit the rim since Carthage was down 2 fakes a free throw 2x on the last attempt with 2 seconds left and it wasn't called
3. The ball clearly hits the rim, but the refs blow the play dead giving Carthage the advantage on trying to tie the game by having the possession arrow

I don't think that you can bank on a fake FT being called; I honestly can't remember the last time that I saw that get whistled. But what happened next was certainly a massive screw-up by the refs. They were ready to award Augustana the ball after Cook's deliberately missed FT attempt -- and had to be reminded by the Carthage bench that there's no such thing as a genuine deliberately missed FT attempt that hits the rim. And then, as you said, once the bad call was reversed, it left the Red Men in a position to set up a final shot.

I'm not talking about throwing the ball off the backboard/rim.  He legitimately did a shot fake 2x before releasing the ball. I believe it was him, if not another Carthage play did that on an earlier possession as well.  Dan Sand made multiple references on the broadcast about how he couldn't believe they didn't see it / call it when they were trying to determine what to do after the quick whistle.

Augie's taken a page out of the book of showing a replay of every made basket, and has already missed 2 possessions on the other end of the court. Never thought I would say I don't want to see replays, but less is more.

If those two teams happen to tie for first place... which team would host the tournament?

Quote from: augie77 on February 06, 2020, 04:48:25 PM
Or what if there's a three-way or four-way tie?  If head-to-head results and best record against #3, #4 (and so on) still result in a deadlock, then what are the remaining tiebreakers?

As Ryan said, the tiebreaker formula is now behind an administrative wall on the CCIW website. But we've posted it on CCIW Chat countless times over the years. Here it is:

QuoteMen's & Women's Basketball
Seeding will be determined by regular season finish. Ties are broken by the following:

1. Head-to-head competition.
2. Record against team(s) above the tie beginning with the highest ranked team.
3. Record vs. team or teams in 3 rd place. If still tied, go to the next place for determination, et cetera.
4. Road record against conference schools.
5. Record in their last seven conference games.
6. The point spread of the tied teams' head-to head competition.
7. Coin toss

Let's say Augustana beats North Central at home on Wednesday, and otherwise the top three team win out.  North Central, Augustana and Elmhurst would all be 13-3.  North Central swept Elmhurst and the other matchups were split 1-1.  Would this make North Central the top seed for the conference tournament?

(modified by GS for formatting)

Elmhurst already has 4 conference loses: NC x2, Augie on the road and Carthage at home.

Quote from: augiefan on February 08, 2020, 10:53:47 PMIt makes the McDonald kid's departure because of lack of playing time very puzzling.

Word on the street is that McDonald wants to go to a big school and play golf.

When the news first broke, I thought about that, and looking at the results of the fall season he didn't participate in any tournaments. Good luck to him going to a bigger school and walking on to the team and potentially competing against scholarship athletes.

Korbin Farmer has been motionless on his back for about ten minutes now, as medical staff tends to him on the floor of the Carver Center after he was involved in a violent collision with Micah Martin.

Man, I hope the young man ends up being OK.

A violent collision that didn't result in a foul. Martin has stayed out of foul for the most part this season, something that couldn't always been said the previous years.

Finally at the half, after 2 long delays for blood on the court and this injury, and Augie is up 47-27.

Augie only plays OT conference games at home this year, and are now 2-1 after defeating Wheaton 79 to 73 in OT.  63 combined free throws in the game.

Augie:
Wofford: 27 pts (15-17 from the line) 11 boards
Elledge: 20 pts including a late 3 to make it a 4 point game with 4 seconds left in OT
Martin: 15 pts 10 boards. Picked up his 4th foul 2 minutes into the second half and didn't foul out

Wheaton:
Adom: 23 pts 7 boards
Cruickshank: 18 pts and 13 boards

Who is the top team in the League, IWU, Wheaton, NC or Elmhurst?

I don't think Augustana should be excluded from this list.

Seems like the 5 current 1-loss teams are all extremely even.

I think the CCIW champ will go 3-1 vs Carthage and Carroll and 4-0 vs North Park and Millikin.

Augie has to prove they can keep their head in the game.  Too much letting them back in.  I'm just hoping for a bid this year.  Conference Champs 6 in a row would be great.  Automatic Bid and I think I will have died and gone to Augie Heaven.

Isn't that just a bar on 2nd Ave.

Lee's on 38th and 14th now an Auto Parts Store, The Hilltopper 30th and 13th still there.  2nd Ave would be in the Mississippi River.  Make me laugh!
The Hilltopper or just Kavies we called it was my Heaven. Many a days I Irished up some coffee on the walk down campus.

Augie and Carroll going to OT after Jelen's attempt at fouling with a 3 point lead wasn't called. Carroll hits a 3 with 1 second left. Tied at 60.
#15
Augie up 30-23 at the half including shooting 80% from the field (12-15) and 14 turnovers.  Carroll hasn't been able to take advantage scoring only 7 points off of those TOs.
