Another excellent broadcast by Nick Aconfora on Eastern Sports Weekly, (see below on Little East TV), interviewing Coach Diana Pepin and All American Ariel Cooper.  Coach Pepin has done an extraordinary job with the ECSU softball program, good luck to her and the Warriors this year!!!!!!

No. 3 Softball Splits 11-5, 3-2 With No. 11 ETBU
by Jeff Williford

MARSHALL -- The No. 3 ranked UT Tyler softball team split a Thursday night double-header with No. 11 ranked East Texas Baptist, winning 11-5 in game one, but falling 3-2 in the second game.  Both teams now have one loss in the American Southwest Conference.

The Patriots (20-2, 7-1) got off to a hot start, going up 8-0 before the Tigers were able to get on the board.

In the first, UT Tyler scored two on an Ashley Endsley single through the left side, scoring Heather Abshire and Joey Cronin who reached on a double.

The Patriots added three more runs in the fourth inning, when Rachel Howell singled in Lauren Robenalt, making the score 4-0.

After Cronin singled, a throwing error by the shortstop allowed Raven Rodriguez and Kristin Anderson to score, building the lead to 6-0.

UT Tyler wasn't done.  In the fifth, pinch-hitter Taylor Sells drove in one run, while Howell knocked in two more with a single to right, scoring Carli Wheeler and Brittany Hay.

ETBU (17-3, 5-1) put a scare into UT Tyler in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on two homeruns, closing the gap to 8-5 with two innings to play.

In the sixth, Cronin and Abshire each reached on a single to begin the inning, when Batten unloaded, knocking a homerun to right-field, giving the Patriots an 11-5 lead.

Abshire would shut the door over the last two innings in the circle, holding on to win game one 11-5.

In game two, Alyssa Romero led off the bottom of the first inning with a double, and later scored on a Lacy Liles single, making the score 1-0 after one inning.

The Patriots would answer in the third inning on a Cronin solo homerun, tying the score at 1-1.

In the fourth, UT Tyler would take a short lead, when Lauren Robenalt would reach on an error, which scored Batten who reached on a walk.

ETBU would answer quickly in its half of the fourth, with Liles blasting a solo homerun of her own, tying the score at 2-2.

The Tigers would score the game-winner in the fifth on a Romero sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Jordan Bullard who was pinch-running for Lauren Gardner who reached on a double to leadoff the inning.

UT Tyler would be unable to take advantage of a leadoff single by Robenalt in the seventh, falling 3-2 to the Tigers.

On the night, Cronin was excellent, going 5-for-7 with three runs scored, while Robenalt finished with three hits.

In game two, Kelsie Batten picked up her first loss of the season, dropping her record to 9-1 on the year.

The Patriots will get back to action on Saturday, taking on Louisiana College in double-header action beginning at 2 p.m. in Tyler.
