Calvin 60, Kalamazoo 54

Calvin shot about 10% on three-point attempts for much of the game, but managed to hit a few big three late to finish at 22%. Can't shoot 27 of those if you're not going to make at least 35%. Free throw shooting was the standard 47% for the game as well. Can't go down to Trine and shoot like that and expect to end up within 20 points, much less win. Hopefully Calvin can figure some things out before tomorrow.

The Knights were still without Brandon Paul. No clue if he'll be available for the Trine game or not.

Was Brandon Paul the player with one leg resting on a wheeled support to carry it?  I think that was who it was.  So that didn't appear to be anything short term.  Apparently a leg or ankle injury.

I believe that's Jack Cahalane, but it's tough to tell with webcam broadcasts and masks.  :-\

Looks like no Paul again tonight.

Maybe Hope and Calvin should play a game for third place....

It's just not like the old days....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Albion 87 Hope 83 2OT

Great effort from the Dutchmen tonight, battled back twice to force both ot's.  Tyler George with 3 clutch FT's with a couple ticks left to force it to a 2nd OT.  George topped his previous great effort at Kresge this Winter with another outstanding performance tonight.   Dykhouse missed a tight one in close that might have forced a 3rd, FT's iced it out.  Hope battled tonight and really all through this shortened season, you really could not say that about last years team, def improved.

Agree on the effort by the Dutchmen last night.  One of those great games where both teams leave it all out on the floor.  Sad for the season to be over, but glad they got to play the games they did, and that they got to experience the thrill of a double OT tournament game.

Quick look at the senior class.  Assuming none of them return next year (I have no insight on that whatsoever), as a class their 4 years looked like this:

Team (17-18  - 20-21)     Won   Lost     %
Overall record      53   40      0.57
Home      27   13      0.675
Away      17   23      0.425
Neutral      9       0.643
MIAA play      27   21      0.563
Rivalry      3       0.375
MIAA Tournament      3       0.5
NCAA Tournament      1       0.5

On an individual basis, Preston Granger cracked the top 10 in several single season and career records:

Category     Season   Career
FG Made      7th         208 (19-20)
FG%      10th   5th      .615 (20-21), .604 (Career)
Def Reb      6th   5th      162 (19-20), 426 (Career)

Addison Atwater - PG - Otsego (MI) - transferring from KVCC to Kalamazoo. Graduated from HS in 2019, but since KVCC did not play sports this season he should have 3 years of eligibility remaining.

If Trine wins tonight's game, is this the first time an MIAA team has had an undefeated season since Calvin's 1961 team?  Have  there been other undefeated teams for the entire season going into the playoffs?

Hope finished the regular season undefeated in 1995, then I don't remember what happened.

250 Trine students will be allowed to attend tonight's Trine-Albion MBB championship.  That will make the atmosphere at MTI feel more like a college basketball game, this is fantastic.  It will be interesting to see if Trine opens up the lower bowl stands for the students or whether they'll have to sit in the permanent upper bowl stands.

Congrats to the Thunder, their first tournament title in 4 tries.  They were excellent all Winter.

Coach Miller hinted afterward Trine's season is not done.  Stay tuned.

Sure wasn't easy.  Albion played so tough.  Took Bowman away and held him to his worst shooting game this season.  But the rest of the squad picked him up.  Some huge plays down the stretch by Cox, Williams and Mengnanglo.  Refs called such a tight game.  We ended up with 5 guys having 4 fouls, but amazingly none fouled out.  So happy for the boys and coaching staff to finally get a W in the championship game.  And as SAC mentioned Coach Miller gave a 'spoiler alert' in the postgame interview that they may have another game or games?

HOPEful

Congrats Trine! The disappointment of not getting to see this team in the playoffs is at least lessened by the knowledge that everyone is returning. Next year could be a very special year for the Thunder, both men and women.
Let's go Dutchmen!

I'm sort of stuck on Cox over Shymanski but Thad really struggled shooting this year.  But I still would have picked Shymanski, get the reasons though.

Tyler George ends up on the 2nd team probably over Thomas (Hope).  Tyler really had a good year but was really excellent Hope's last 5 games without any blips shooting 58% from the field, 50% from 3 and 91% at the stripe averaging 20 pts exactly.  Those numbers carried out over an entire season are MVP/AA type stuff.  He was good.
