C'mon, D3 teams ... gotta climb back to the .500 mark against NAIA-2. http://discus.d3hoops.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

I wonder if we're going to have to rely upon Nebraska Wesleyan to do most of the heavy lifting in that regard, considering their conference schedule?

Greg: D3 teams have done much better against NAIA 2 opponents over the past three years than they have this year.

2002  118-58 (.670)
2003  92-60 (.605)
2004  93-62 (.600)
2005  64-69 (.481)

That's what I was thinking, Rhodes. I wrote down your year-by-year totals when you posted them here at the end of last season.

That 2-60 record against D1 schools really has to improve too...that's pathetic. http://discus.d3hoops.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

Old School: The 2-60 record for this year is similar to the numbers for the previous three years.

2002...1-53
2003...3-54
2004...2-61

I don't see D3 doing much better against D1 in the near term. D1 teams that are vulnerable against a good (or even average) D3 team tend to downgrade opponents or even drop D3 schools entirely.

Question for "seasoned" historians: When did most D1's decide to discontinue scheduling D3's? My recollection of 25-30 years ago is that many D1's would schedule a D3 each year.  Nowadays, only 55-60 D1's will play D3's.  I assume that it's because D1's see no value (only downside possibly) re: their D1 RPI index or possible NCAA bid.

I believe there were more D1 vs. D3 matchups in the past, but I haven't seen any documentation on the matter. Right now, there's absolutely no benefit for a D1 team to take on a D3 team. A trend I have noticed in recent years is that weak D1s (Army, American, Albany, Binghamton, Columbia, Lafayette, Lehigh, etc.) are now either facing weaker D3s or not playing them at all.
