« on: May 18, 2022, 05:28:39 pm »Hey, Ron's been wrong before. I think there are two other factors besides academics:
1. After SW affiliates the SAA will be back to nine members which is as large as it's ever been. Not sure the Berrys, BSCs, Centres, and Trinitys would be happy with only one non-conference warmup before starting conference play, especially as often as two contenders face off early in the season.
2. I haven't run the numbers but it seems travel for Centenary would be worse going to the SAA than the ASC (yes, I know *cough* *cough* Sul Ross *cough* *cough*). It also would be worse for a number of the SAA core who will again face an annual trip to TX when SW arrives.

3. With the scarcity of non-conference opponents the ASC needs another football team (after SW departs) more than the SAA does and may be more highly engaged in pursuing new members.
Just plugged it in, looks like average from Centenary to ASC is ~348 miles while Centenary to SAA is ~442. If I plugged things in right, Centre is actually 66 miles further from Centenary than Sul ross is (688 vs 754).
For the ASC it looks like furthest is 688 (Sul Ross), closest is 43 (ETBU) with the rest being 245-381 miles away. For the SAA the closest is 224 (Millsaps) and furthest is 754 (Centre) with the remainder being spread in the 240-629 range. Another interesting note, according to the NCAA website Trinity and Birmingham-Southern are the same distance away from Centenary at 451 miles.

Because when you are on an island having more local schools simplifies everything.
You do realize that if a current team changes conference they are still available for out of conference games, right? Moving conferences doesn’t move your physical location.
Availability really depends. Take Southwestern leaving the ASC for the SAA. On the face of it, you're losing 8 games. Since they're moving to the SAA and making it a 9 team conference that means they will have two non conference games. Let's assume that they schedule both against ASC teams so you've really only lost 6 games at that point. However, 7 of the ASC's current non conference games are against SAA teams. Trinity and Hendrix both play 2 games against the ASC. Since the SAA will need one less non conference game the ASC could lose as many as 7 more games or zero. So that would mean that one team transferring conferences could swing the number of games needed to fill by 6-15 games.
Edit: re-listening to the podcast. I'm hoping the tidbit about the asc and wiac trying to get a non-conference agreement comes to fruition. It would cost some in the long run but might be the only way we can get games without playing 3+ non d3 games as a conference.

Lot of great info but the thing that was very surprising to me, Muhlenberg is not a 2 year home and home contract! It is a 1 year thing due to the Centennial changing up in the future the Mules don't need have space for us next year so they are flying down to Belton with no return trip for the Cru, big props to them for that. Don't know if we offer any type of financial support to make that happen but either way that is very impressive out of the Mules.

I'd settle for the Ford Center at the Star in Frisco. At least it only holds 12,000 so it wouldn't look like an empty cavern... Heck, it'd be cool to hold a Stagg bowl there. I mean, it is a dome! I could dream that we'd actually get enough people to fill out Jerry World but we don't have nearly as many fans as HS football :-(.

One of the things they will do with the funds is build a multi-purpose sports complex seating 5,000 which will host football, soccer, and lacrosse. Other uses include two new residence halls and renovation of existing buildings.
Wonder where the complex will be? Right now I believe they essentially have 2 full sized football fields that are only for practice and then 2 full sized fields for Lacrosse and Soccer which includes some stands. I assume they will take some of that land and repurpose it for this complex but you would think they will need to add a good deal of parking on campus to take up to 5,000 additional people on any given day.
Yeah, they're going to have to add a considerable amount of parking. I think they could squeeze a good bit between the practice fields and the creek. The logistics might be strange, but I could see them replacing the practice field with the track around it. It would be a pretty good location.
Southwestern has a good deal of property east and north of the current practice fields - used to be a golf course until around the turn of the century. From the Williamson County Appraisal District maps they still seem to own all that land. They also have a couple of plots across University Avenue which aren't large enough for much (one is 4+ acres, the other not quite one).
And, of course, it's one thing to have a 5K facility, another to fill it. The attendance listed for each of the last three home games this season was exactly 1500 which means it probably wasn't even that.
What I find odd is there is nothing - nada, zip, zilch - on either the athletics or main Southwestern web site saying boo about this. You would think that if you take out a huge ad in the Sunday paper that it would be part of a coordinated announcement. It will certainly come soon, no doubt.
Yeah, over there was kind of what I was thinking. If they're planning to break ground this year then they probably have a plan and are in the permitting process already. Too bad Georgetown doesn't have a map of all site plans in review/progress like they do over here in Hutto.

Bryan Scott (qb) from Occidental is on the Philadelphia Stars and Keith Gipson (cb) from UMHB is on the Pittsburgh Maulers. Haston Adams (dt) from UMHB was playing for the Stallions but cut when he got hurt.
