#2 Oshkosh nips #1 Juniata in the Trinity (Tx) National Invitational 22-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-18, 15-13. Both teams also beat #8 Wittenberg (Juniata 3-1, Oshkosh 3-0) and #18 Trinity (both 3-0). In the final match, the host Tigers outlasted the Ohio Tigers in five sets, 15-11 in the fifth.

But only Oshkosh vs Trinity is in-region.
That looks like an excellent pre-playoff tourney for those 4 teams.

Now the debate is what schools host. Will it be Oshkosh, Whitewater or Carthage? I'm thinking Wash U gets a regional over St. Ben's and St. Thomas. The announcements are Wednesday.
Oshkosh hosted last year, and the NCAA likes to spread it around from year to year. But how can you deny the Titans this year? Juniata and Tufts also hosted last year. Doesn't seem fair to deny one and not the others. I think UWO and JC (probably Tufts as well) earned the right to host again in 2009. I don't know about the others, but Oshkosh submitted a bid to host this year.
I'll take Oshkosh, Wash U and Hope as hosts in my area, assuming they all submitted bids. Carthage or Whitewater may get bused east or west. We'll see. It all depends whether the NCAA thinks hosting is earned or hosting is rotated.

Not sure where to post this, but there's a blog page that has links to all conference tourneys in one spot. It also has the dates and the No. 1 seeds for all tourneys.
One team is already in: Pacific Lutheran. One tourney started yesterday: North Atlantic Conference.
See the link on the top-right rail. I could have linked to the page itself, but there may be other stuff of interest on the main page. If you like it, tell your friends ;)

A certain volleyball blog (http://uwoshvball.wordpress.com/) is still around. It's not entirely terrible. There's 2010 stuff on there like "Who Loses Whom" and preseason polls.
If you've never moused to it, the blog focuses on the Central and Midwest regions but has a bunch of national entries as well, especially during tournament time.

Just stumbled across a new site: www.D3VB.org. Looks very good and they've done a lot of work to load in nearly every school's schedule. Perhaps a future D3Sports.com partner site?

I just went over there, too. I'm hoping it'll generate some more interest, particularly in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and West Regions.

Saturday features one of the games of the year as No. 1 Washington University takes on No. 2 Juniata College in Indiana. This is a rematch of the championship game from last year. And, a rematch of the regular season game that was the single greatest volleyball match I have ever seen. I am a volleyball novice, but I am sure others would agree.
Washington University defeated four nationally ranked teams this last week without dropping a set. Juniata is undefeated and always has a great schedule, so this should be one of the games of the year.
I wish I could go.
-
And, the Bears win again with a 3-2 victory over Juniata College to remain unbeaten.

No. 1 Washington University plays No. 2 Emory University today. The game is online at 10:30 CST: http://www.brandeis.edu/streaming/athletics/
The Washington University Press Release has an interesting factoid on this match-up:
Washington University and Emory have combined to win the last three NCAA Division III national championships, with the defending national champion Bears winning the title in 2007 and 2009. Interestingly, the team winning the regular season match-up fell in the UAA Championship match, but still went on to win the national title in each of those years.
-
For the second time this season, Washington University defeats the No. 2 Division III team in the nation with a 3-2 come from behind win over Emory. Good work ladies.
-
Washington University plays No. 23 New York University. An upset could be brewing as the Bears will be playing without one of their best and possibly without two.
-
New York University with the 3-2 upset over No. 1 and previously undefeated Washington University. The Bears won the first and third set without their superstar libero and superstar quarterback.

Here's one to put in the "Somethin's gotta give right away" department:
UW-Oshkosh and Carthage meet right away in the first round. Best of this poster's knowledge that's the only instance in which 2 Top 25 teams meat in this tournament's opening match.

Quick comparison of the host sites for the tournament and the AVCA ranked teams in each (ORV indicates a team outside the top 25 but that did receive votes)
Calvin - 1, 9, 10, 16, ORV
Clarkson - 22, ORV
Elmhurst - 2, 5, 11, 18, 25, ORV
Emory - 7, 12, 23
Juniata - 8, 17, 21
St. Thomas - 4, 6, 13, 15, 19, 20, ORV
Trinity - 3, 14, ORV
Williams - ORV, ORV, ORV, ORV
Looks like St. Thomas and Elmhurst have the most difficult sectionals.
-
Northeast Region (Williams and Clarkson) --seems like that area's been relatively weaker over the last couple of seasons.

Clarkson pushed top-ranked Calvin to the limit before going down in 5, and #17 U of Chicago lost twice yesterday. Methinks the Maroon squad may slip some in the next poll.

ARV Mary Hardin Baylor may move up after knocking off #13 Trinity-TX in 4 sets today.

Well... Week 10:
http://www.avca.org/divisions/division-three-women/poll-11-10-15/
I'm just wondering: What justification does AVCA use for "fudging" their rankings? What I mean is, only 37 of their 63 voters actually turned in a ballot this week. They ranked the teams based on those ballots, and added 26 "ghost" ballots filled in according to that ranking. The actual poll, without the ghost ballots, was:
1 Washington-St. Louis (24) 905
2 Emory (1) 861
3 Juniata (9) 860
4 Calvin (3) 827
5 Christopher Newport 765
6 Wittenberg 757
7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 652
8 Colorado College 627
9 Cal Lutheran 604
10 Hope 584
11 Wisconsin-Whitewater 580
12 Southwestern (Texas) 502
13 Carthage 462
14 Texas-Dallas 427
15 Wisconsin-Stevens Point 390
16 Eastern 351
17 Elmhurst 291
18 Clarkson 267
19 Wisconsin-Oshkosh 140
20 La Verne 135
21 Gustavus Adolphus 123
22 Chicago 120
23 Illinois Wesleyan 106
24 MIT 82
25 Carnegie-Mellon 76
The actual poll was a lot closer than what they published. For example, Emory garnered only 1 more point than Juniata, not the 27 that the published poll shows. And Carnegie-Mellon barely edged out Hendrix (72) for the last spot.
-
Tournament Upset Alert:
Bethel-MN takes out #10 (and defending champ) Hope (3-0)!
-
Joining Hendrix/Berry in progress: (Match is tied at 1 set apiece as I post).
-
Hendrix/Berry is now going to a 5th set:
-
It'll be a Hendrix/Emory Regional final tomorrow: The Warriors took the 5th set.
-
Kudos to Cal Lutheran on taking the 2015 D3 WVB Title!
