Post by: BreakTheWalls on March 14, 2016, 08:59:58 am
Has anyone else heard that two teams might be moving to the WIAC?

Sounds about right.

I know that the WIAC is pursuing two NCHA schools quite hard.

Better hope those schools don't improve too much, or the WIAC will yank the rug out from under them, too.

Which two schools are in that mix? I would assume St Norbert as a hockey affiliate. Adrian makes no sense due to travel. St. Scholastica and travel to Duluth? MSOE or Marian would fit geographically but not really sure about the competition.

They gave SNC the boot, and the same with St. Scholastica, in the first place. Therefore, I think we can rule them out.

Yes. Follow the money. The competition level means nothing to the WIAC all it cares about is getting seven teams. The commissioner will do anything to get there after he got his ass shot off when St. Norbert and Scholastica didn't take the bait. I don't expect Scholastica to move this time but it's a possibility down the road. Follow the money.

I've heard Northland and Finlandia....  Far less travel for both schools in WIAC hockey compared to NCHA.

Finlandia has been a WIAC affiliate member before (men's soccer, 2010-2014) so there's a previous relationship there anyway. Finlandia has long made it known that they will take just about any conference affiliation they can get. Their women's soccer and women's basketball teams compete in the Great South Athletic Conference with an odd assortment of schools.

I'm hearing that plans are on hold. The WIAC better be careful or it's actually going to end up getting smaller.

Looks like Northland is in. Just read an article on my Blugolds 219-2020 schedule and mentioned an expanded WIAC and then confirmed Northland. Good news for the conference.
