Hard to say this at the end of the season, but I continue to not have a feel for this Amherst team.   Robinson not starting - Day becoming the starter and leading scorer.  Devon Allen on the bench - the oft injured McCarthy starting in his place.   Sellew injured for much of the season.   Just don't know which team is going to show up out there.   My guess is that it is a pick em game with Jefferson not at 100% - if Jefferson is playing, Colby a six point favorite.

AMH63 or any other Amherst fan ... did Garrett Day replace Robinson because the latter has been hurt or the former better?

Any write-up of Amherst Williams game would be welcome.

I have heard rumblings - nothing more, nothing less - of some directional changes on the part of NESCAC leadership toward less aggressive recruiting.   NESCAC wide, not just Amherst wide.

So what does the assemblage believe Amherst and Williams need to do in order to get an NCAA playoff bid?

How about some predictions from the assembled group here?   My predictions:

Tufts / Colby / Amherst / Middlebury win round one

Does this game matter to Wesleyan?

What a strange season it has been for Grant Robinson.   He played 28 minutes yesterday but only scored six points and appeared to be sort of an after-thought in the game.   One can only surmise that injuries have dramatically impacted his season as he is too talented a player to have disappeared like this for any other reason.

Damn good weekend for the former and current Lord Jeff fans!   Didn't see that 2-0 weekend coming necessarily, with Jefferson's absence obviously a game changer.  But, nice to see Sellew back - they go nowhere without him - and the changed role for Grant Robinson.   Look closely at the box scores and Robinson and Garrett Day have switched roles since last year.   Day is the leading score in most of their victories, a change from last season.   Not a great NESCAC this year but nice to see the Jeffs crawling up the standings as the regular season comes to a close.  Also I was critical of the coaching earlier this season.  Not clear that my mind is totally changed, but if I am to be critical I need also to be complimentary.   Toomey has them on a very nice run.

Excited after the Jeff beat-down of the Cardinals on Friday until I saw that Hamilton did the same thing on Saturday to Wesleyan.   Regardless, it looked like the Jeff defense really stepped up Friday without Sellew and Robinson.   Still a difficult team to figure out but hopefully Sellew and Robinson get back to give them a chance at a NESCAC tournament run.

That was a brutal call on that miraculous shot.   Not a chance someone can catch and shoot it in less than .5 seconds.   Look at the tape - the clock doesn't start when he grabs it.   Awful call.

Six losses by the Jeffs, five of them under five points, the only blowout being against Tufts.   This season is hanging by a thread as is, but if Sellew doesn't come back this team will struggle to make the NESAC playoffs.   Bummer.

As with most of us, I watch my alma mater and so my view is parochial, as such.   In watching Amherst get clocked inside against Williams, I wondered why they didn't shift into a zone periodically.  If for no other reason than to change it up, but in this case to also see if it made sense to force the Ephs to beat them from the outside.  I don't ever remember Amherst under Hixon switching into a zone either.   These are all smart kids what am I missing here?

I don't know what the impact would be but no one in their right mind is going to think that a 40 plus year coach who has won over 800 games isn't going to be more effective, in general, than a 27-year old coach who has never been a head coach before.   As noted previously, Aaron Toomey owes Amherst nothing - he is the GOAT in program history - and if Hixon wanted a year off, he probably earned that 20 years ago.   But in a good league, a tight league, there is not a doubt in my mind that Hixon would matter.

I do think that the analysis of their inside defense was spot on.  I attended the Williams game and the Jeff interior defense even with Sellew was pitiful.   They really don't have any power forwards on this team to play good interior defense.
