I like the name change. More reflects the current makeup of the league. After winning the menís basketball title NWU gave notice we are now more than a nice little conference of colleges in quaint Iowa towns.

Conference wrestling opener for Wartburg tonight.
Beat Nebraska Wesleyan 45-0.
This is the Knights' 197th straight conference win.
I'm guessing they might be OK this season. :D

Keep an eye out for us warthog

Actually, don't keep an eye out for us.  My wife and son are sick.  Our oldest daughter has a party to go to and our younger daughter has a dance to get ready for.  I can't talk my uncle out of hibernation.  So I guess I will just mow the lawn in the morning and then watch the festivities on the computer.

Well, I don't think you'll be missing much.  I'm hoping we can just keep it respectable.  Beyond that my wish list includes cold beer and a big screen tv  at Courtside after the game.

I hate to say this, I really do.  Longtime D3 posters know it is against everything I hold dear to disparage my beloved Knights.  :-X

This coming weekend it will be my 2nd favorite D3 team in a laugher. The Spartans will score at will.   ::)

Knight d-backs couldn't cover a pumpkin pie if they were given a roll of Saran Wrap.    :-[

........... but I will be there anyway, holding out hope that I am wrong.   :o

Sure sign of the apocalypse.  Central Dutch half time show is sponsored by a brewery.
I was in town for homecoming and picked up two six packs of Peace Tree Brewing's product and patronized the Royal Amsterdam all in appreciation for their sponsorship of Central sports broadcasts.

I don't know what to say about the football game except that, a couple of times I was amazed at how wide open UD receivers were, and then a couple of other times, at how well covered they were and then came down with the ball anyway.  It wasn't the result I wanted, but it never was dull.

This doesn't bode well for my beloved Knights.  From my perspective, the Knights would have a hard time covering the apple pie at a family picnic

About what we expected...
Central beat BVU 33-0
Coe beat Loras 45-10
Dubuque beat Simpson 41-20
Wartburg beat NWU 38-28

BVU is bad
Central is back
Coe appears strong
Dubuque looks tough
Loras offense has been lost
Luther ??
NWU better than some thought they would be?
Simpson maybe an Even Steven?
Wartburg ...something missing???

What's missing seems to be 31 seniors from last year.
After the shocking start, it appears a few leaders might have stepped up.
38 unanswered points.
The Knights will be OK
The Prairie Wolves will be better than I expected.  Dubuque, Coe, and Central will beat them, but the others might have some problems.
NWU players, parents, staff, alumni, and fans are some of the nicest people I've ever met at an IIAC game.
A former Wartburg administrator is the NWU Dean of Students.
The wrestling coach at NWU brought in 30 grapplers for their inaugural season.
Parking is an issue at NWU. Like Coe space is a premium in a bigger city.

The transfer of two Central Dutch players to become Dubuque Spartans will probably increase the GPA of both teams.

 :D
Well look at this... UD leads the IIAC for academic all-conference selections the past 5 seasons  ;D

Only at U of Dubuque would 13 be more than 23 (2014-2015)  ::)

I need to get Walston-Hoover and dutchfan1 back on the board to help me out.  I'm getting too old to make speedy retorts.

Well, tomorrow we see if that one week head start is a big benefit to Monmouth.

A fairly young Wartburg squad could have probably used a warm up game prior to taking on, what appears to be, a very good Fighting Scots team.

I hope to see a good turnout of Knight fans over there in the Prairie State for Wartburg's opener. The Iowa State/Iowa game might impact the crowd.

Parking suggestions for easy access to visitors side.  We've usually tried to arrive in time to park by the tennis courts.  Since the lawn of the president's house is likely to be off limits, are the tennis courts still a good option?

Nebraska Wesleyan responded to my inquiry about pregame tailgating.

I explained that Wartburg fans and those from some other IIAC institutions enjoyed an occasional adult beverage during tailgating festivities.

They sent a polite but short response that we would be welcomed in college owned facilities for pregame gatherings, but booze of any sort was not permitted on campus.

Monmouth on week one followed by Nebraska Wesleyan in week two.  They both appear to be party poopers.  There could be some serious demand for tailgating debauchery when Knights finally return to the friendly confines of Walston-Hoover.

Iowa State has cancelled interviews with other candidates.

An unnamed source confirms to the Des Moines Register that Campbell is the choice.

Now, in as unbiased of analysis as Mount Union fans can muster, is this a good move for Iowa State?

Thanks in advance for the info.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone.  I,m at home with a great dinner coming.

Comment:   With an ACT acceptance rate of 19 compared to Coe and Luther at 26, Wartburg at 24,  we should expect Dubuque to dominate IIAC in all events for the next few years.

Go Spartens ,

Phred can't spell. Must be his high ACT score.

I voted for Logan Schrader...that should earn me a beer, or a brat...or both at the next Wartburg/UD tailgate  ;D

There is no doubt about that, but you need to show up so we can pay up.  You can't be AWOL and expect to be rewarded.  ::)

The Knights had quite a bit more total offense than Central, but the interceptions through the hands of receivers and a couple huge goal line stands by the Dutch kept the game in question until the final moments.  Plenty of things for the Wartburg team to work on in preparation for Coe.

Not sure why Wartburg would choose to forgo the quarterback sneak on the 1/2 foot line.  You would think they could pickup 6 inches on 3 or 4 tries. Taking the snap then backing up to handoff seems a waste of time and yardage. Regardless i have to give credit to the Central defense, they showed some moxie.
