Men's soccer / Re: 2015 NCAA TOURNAMENT THREAD
« on: November 16, 2015, 10:17:04 am »
I'm going to take a quick moment and have a laugh at the UAA - again.
Only 1 of 4 teams makes it to the round of 16.
I'm so glad that I stopped thinking "this could be the year they finally play to their high rankings", it improves my brackets!
Two shoot-out losses and a double OT loss?
And notice what they all have in common? They are losses!

Technically speaking the UAA teams are 4-1-2 in the tournament this year with the 1 loss being in double OT

NERevs127's Top 25

8. Oneonta
9. Whitworth
10. Lycoming

12. Elizabethtown
13. Middlebury
14. Thomas More
15. Carnegie Mellon

19. Eastern
20. Loras
21. St. Lawrence
22. Stevens
23. Colorado College
24. DePauw
25. Macalester

By doing the rankings I found out that everyone can agree the top 8 teams in the country are (in no order) Haverford, Brandeis, Amherst, Montclair St, Kenyon, Oneonta, Calvin and Trinity. Every top 25 had these 8 in the top 8 in one order or the other. SO... taking into consideration Shooter, NCAC, Lastguy, NSCAA, d3soccer's and my own top 25 I have broken down the top 8. (I exclude both Massey and Hero for they are illegitimate in many opinions). I did this by simply adding their rankings in each and finding the sum:

1. Amherst = 20pts
2. Brandeis = 21pts
3. Kenyon = 23pts
4. Montclair St. = 25pts
5. Haverford = 26pts
6. Calvin = 30pts
7. Trinity (TX) = 33pts
8. Oneonta St. = 38pts

Brandeis (AQ), Carnegie, and WashU all number one in each of their respective regions. Those, ladies and gentlemen, are the three NCAA bids.

...unless Chicago beats WashU, the world falls apart, and somehow bid #19 goes to them. Ain't gonna happen.

Chicago always has one of the top 10/top 5 SOS in the country so this may help them out if they can get a result against Wash U. What's more exciting is that we might have 3 UAA schools host the first two rounds of the tournament as Brandeis, Carnegie and Wash U are all #1 ranked in their regions. Brandeis might get home field all the way up to the Final Four is NYU doesn't bring their SOS down too far and they get the Win.

You will also have to take into consideration of the fact that Brandeis plays 3 more games than Amherst. Also on paper the blemishes for Brandeis look much better than Amherst's.

Brandeis: two losses against #1 ranked regional teams in Wash U and Trinity TX. Then a tie against MIT.

Amherst: two blemishes against unranked regional opponents. A loss against a team they beat 5-0 prior

One or maybe both of the teams will host until the final 4 but if only 1 then it's a toss up for me. Both have great resumes and strong cases as to why they should host over the other

Wash. U up 4-0 on NYU with 10 minutes to play.

Wow...That is a impressive result for Wash U..NYU clearly the weakest team in the UAA the past few seasons....Does anybody know why when NYU hosts on a Fri / Sun that they start the games at 1pm?  Seems odd to me... especially if kids are missing classes

The missing class thing isn't a factor as all the UAA schools travel Thursday. I do know that NYU does not play on their own field but instead use another school in Manhattan's field. May have to do with the early games. Maybe they don't have lights or its not in their field agreement to use the lights on the field.
