Multi-Regional Topics / Re: Covid Impact on Conference Scheduling

The WIAC canceled all sports for the Fall Semester.

I have not seen that Greek. Source?

How could you miss it? It's the lead story on the WIAC website.

Here it is:

https://wiacsports.com/news/2020/7/27/general-wiac-fall-statement-on-covid-19.aspx

Yes I did read that on Monday. But, the WIAC, in that release, has only canceled fall sports, not all sports in the fall semester. Winter sports in the fall semester still on for now in the WIAC.

Stevens Point football teams will need to make alternate plans this year as Common Council votes to have no games at Goerke Field this year. The three teams even offered to have no fans.

This was in the FAQ:

Will there be athletics competition at Lawrence this fall?

We understand the importance of the collegiate athletics experience to our student-athletes and our campus overall. We are working to provide a quality athletics experience for our students in the safest way possible. There has been no determination yet. We are in conversation with the Midwest Conference (MWC) office and conference colleagues to finalize a decision on fall athletics competition soon.

Geez!  I guess I didn't realize that the WSUC/WIAC was a perfect 12-0 in the National Championship game before Matt Lewis and UWO fell short in 2018.   ;)

I guess they made up for it in 2019 though!  ;D

Very true about the WIAC in title games.

Im somewhat surprised no one brought this forward before, Lewis is actually just 1-0. Juckem was the head coach in 2018. Otherwise from what I see it looks good and great work thebear.

Augustana's Grey Giovanine has announced his retirement after 21 years at the school, and six years at D1 Lamar.  There'd been discussion here that Coach G. could one day make it into the Rushmore discussion, but retirement probably quells that idea.  A national search for his successor will commence.

Id say he has a place on a Mount Rushmore of coaches never to win a National Championship.

I'm not sure some of the pool C experts would 100% agree with me, but looking back now, I think Eau Claire and La Crosee were fairly close in the primary criteria, with La Crosse winning the head to heads even though Eau Claire had the better SOS. The fact that Eau Claire's non conference SOS was .635 to La Crosse's .485 was a big different maker for me.

Whether, it came down to this, all the way the secondary criteria, we'll never know.

It is certainly interesting comparing their non-conference schedules and how those played out and the teams they scheduled.

As an aside, I get way too anxious and excited this time of year waiting for teams to post schedules for next season to see what WIAC coaches do and how they fill their 11 non conference games.
