I booked my hotel reservations for Salem Fort Wayne today. Am I the first?  ??? :P ::) ;D. It's only 5 1/2 hours away and I got a hotel with a pool, so wife and son will be happy.

Gauging the interest in a player league, basically the same thing as the Team League. We only use stats from CONFERENCE GAMES ONLY. Don't say I didn't tell you. We would again use the 44 conferences and EXCLUDE THE ACAA. So, 44 rounds. You need to use ONE and ONLY ONE player from EACH CONFERENCE. Players are a little different that teams, so we would take the TOP 40 scores of the 44 players. All rosters will be frozen ONCE THE RESPECTIVE CONFERENCE SEASON STARTS. So, your player in the SLIAC will be frozen once their conference season starts...which is at the end of November. Your player in the WIAC won't be frozen until their conference season starts at the beginning of January. Your player in the CCIW is frozen once the CONFERENCE SEASON STARTS. They have an odd number of teams, so even if, for example, Carthage has a "bye" for the 1st game day, your player is frozen anyway, even if they don't play a conference game. Got all that?

If we get enough posters to play, the draft won't start until after Labor Day.

My boredom has gotten the best of me. I'm thinking about starting a new TEAM league.

1. You can only draft ONE team from each conference.
Once NCF drafts NCC, she can't draft any other CCIW team.

2. You must draft one team from each qualifying conference.
There are 43 conferences with 7 or more teams, so there would be 43 rounds. If we get 8 posters to play, that number drops to 40 as the AEC, CSAC and the MASCAC all have just 7 conference members.

3. Rosters are frozen once the regular season starts.
No weekly rosters needed. Draft and then check back at the end of the season!

4. Only CONFERENCE GAME stats will count.

Any questions?

Who's in? Minimum of 6, maximum of 9. If we get 9, we lose another nine conferences that only have 8 teams.

Who's in? We'll start next weekend after the 4th of July.

Apparently this thing is real and aside from the D3 team taking on a UCLA alumni team, I checked out the pod that will be playing an hour away from me in Milwaukee. I really don't know if I'll make it down, but it would be interesting just to see how many people actually show up to watch. It does help that one of the teams is basically made up of Marquette alumni.

I'm in Big 10 country, so I checked out Big X's roster and it included Duncan Robinson and Wesleyan's Harry Rafferty.

I'm considering creating this league, but I'm debating a few things: If it's not going to be any easier than the rookie league, then it defeats the purpose of dumping that league. Also, whomever picks Greenville and Grinnell, are they basically going to win the league anyway? That's a huge advantage.

I may run it similar to the Mega Draft where I would just use games vs D3 opponents and you wouldn't have to post a weekly roster, making it a ghost league throughout the regular season where you don't have to worry about it and concentrate on the other leagues or whatever. This may encourage more to play, like Magicman, HOPEful, Hoops Fan etc, if they don't have to worry about weekly rosters etc. However, those who want to, they could still add and drop teams if they choose.

Scoring-wise would be like the regular season draft league. If there are 10-team rosters, take the top 200 of 250 scores (if you have teams that play against non D3 teams or don't play a 25-game schedule, you'll either fall short of 250 or you'll have to adjust your rosters).

Who would be interested? Any thoughts, questions or ideas? I probably wouldn't start the draft until May, if I decide to run this league.

OK, let's try this again. We have TWO ROUNDS where you draft a tournament team. THE TOTAL TEAM FANTASY SCORE will count. After you draft your two teams, nothing else needs to be done! Each round, I will add up the TOTAL TEAM score. No need to post a roster or anything. Probably the easiest league to join! Draft your favorite team, draft a team you think will go the furthest, draft a team you think will score the most points, even if they don't make the Final, you have a chance!

So basically, you draft John Carroll and Plattsburgh St. Watch em score and advance, that's it!

I'll get the draft order up immediately. We only have TWO ROUNDS, so we will have no problem finishing the draft before tomorrow's games.

I suppose I'll thank Ryan for the suggestion.  ;D :P

Pick-ems, fantasy leagues, etc. / All-American Pool
« on: November 11, 2017, 08:47:07 am »

The preseason All-American teams are out.  There are 5 teams of 5.

Here's the concept: Pick 10 players you think will make any of the 4 All-American teams and the Honorable Mention team. None of the players can be on any of the preseason teams. You will also pick a Rookie of the Year and a Player of the Year. Only the POTY can be picked from the preseason teams, but doesn't have to be.

Any of your players selected to the Honorable Mention team at the end of the year will get 1 point, 4th team will get 2, 3rd team will get 3, 2nd team will get 4 and any player getting 1st team All-American honors at the tend of the year will get 5 points each. If you correctly pick the POTY and/or the ROTY,  each are worth 10 points. Obviously more than one poster can have the same guy on their list. All because I take someone doesn't mean you can't have him on your team as well.

Do you think all the good players are taken? Of the 25 preseason All-Americans selected last year, only 10 made the list at the end of the year. Harvey and Blackledge made 1st team, Herink and Jack for 2nd team and Howell and Bonacum made 3rd team, all without getting preseason nods. Plenty of guys to choose from.

As usual for all leagues,  we need at least 6 participants. Questions, comments, complaints?

Pick-ems, fantasy leagues, etc. / Top 25 Pool
« on: November 03, 2017, 09:36:07 pm »
New pool!

Here's the idea. The preseason Top 25 has now been released. The object is to pick a team NOT in the preseason poll who received ANY votes, including Oswego St, who received just one vote.

Then, throughout the season, we'll keep track if any of the teams get votes and sustain Top 25 status. At the end of the season, we'll have 2 winners. The poster who picked the team who garnered the most votes during the season and the team who finished the highest in the final poll (the one after the tourney is complete).

Hopefully we can even get some of those "experts" to play since all you have to do is pick a team before the season starts and that's all you have to do!

I basically just split the pick em pool and the winless/undefeated list

Predict an undefeated team and predict a winless team.

Official picks accepted starting on November 1 at 12:00 am Eastern Time.

Pick-ems, fantasy leagues, etc. / REGULAR SEASON: Player League
« on: November 16, 2016, 04:26:17 pm »
After reconsideration, I've decided to run the full season, draft league, despite only 4 teams drafting. As usual, posters not participating in the draft can add their own teams via free agency, once the draft is complete. After that period, I'll assume someone will add a 2nd team to fill out the league.

One of the main reasons I decided to run this league is because the drafting part is half the fun.

Anyway, for those 4 lucky posters, and any lurkers...we're drafting a roster of 10 players. Each player gets to start ONE game a week (you must note what game that is,  running Monday through Sunday) and we'll score on a weekly basis. You may add and drop at will. You cannot play a player, drop him and then add a player and play that player in the same week.

Questions? Comments?

As usual, my wife drew cards to determine the draft order...

1. Greek Tragedy
2. 7express
3. FCGrizzliesGrad
4. NCF

Trust me, I really didn't want the 1st pick.

I've opened up a new thread to prevent confusion with the Futures Fantasy League that will still be running in the NCAA Tournament Fantasy League thread. I hope Pat doesn't mind.

In an effort to encourage more participants, I've created a new league that won't require posters to sit through a 3-day draft (Admittedly,  drafting is half the fun).

Anyway, the rules are simple. Pick a team of players in EACH ROUND without using the same player more than once throughout the WHOLE TOURNAMENT. Hence the name: One and Done.

For example, if you pick K.J.  Evans from Whitewater in the 1st round, you cannot use him in any other round for the rest of the tournament. There is no draft, so everyone can have K.J. Evans on their roster at any ONE time. If you think Whitewater makes the Final Four, you may want to save him.

Rosters are due in THEIR ENTIRETY by the first game played of the current day. This means if you have a player playing the early game on the East coast and 5 guys playing the late game on the West coast, your entire roster is due before the early game on the East coast...

You have a player on one of the four teams playing on Thursday.  At this time, you only need to post that/those player (s) and post the remainder of your 1st round roster on Friday, including your Thursday players.

If you change your roster prior to tip-off, you must post your previous roster, announce your changes and post your new roster ALL IN ONE POST.

If you fail to post a new roster for the next round, you will be eliminated (you'd get zero anyway).

If you accidentally use a player from a previous round (oops, I forgot I used Evans in the first round and now I tried using him in the semifinals) you simply don't get credit for him.

When posting rosters, use last names only (use a first initial of 1st names if there is more than 1 Smith on the team). Initials for teams are fine if they are original (RMC for Randolph Macon, don't use WW because that could mean Whitewater or Whitworth).

No position requirements,  standard scoring.

3-pointers made - missed free throws + rebounds + assists + blocks + steals - turnovers + points scored

1st and 2nd rounds: 8-player rosters
3rd and 4th rounds: 5-player rosters
Semifinal and Final rounds: 3-player rosters

Pick-ems, fantasy leagues, etc. / D3 Men's National Pick Em League
« on: March 29, 2006, 09:34:15 am »
No time like the present!

After a lot of consideration and thought, I've decided to try to start a fantasy basketball league starting next season, similar to Yahoo's NBA fantasy league.

Here are the basics:

Each poster picks a starting five (from any team and any league).  I wasn't sure if I wanted to have restrictions on this:  2 inside (forwards/centers), 2 outside (guards) and 1 utility (inside or outside) lineup or just letting everyone pick who they want.  They could have five guards or five centers for all I care, but those teams won't be balanced in terms of winning stat categories.

NINE stat categories:

Points, FG%, FT%, 3PTM, Assists, Steals, Blocks, TOs and Rebounds.

Obviously, you add up the totals for your team.  It'll be a head-to-head league and you can have a maximum record of 9-0-0 in one week if you win all the categories.

It's a WEEKLY league, so all rosters must be submitted by Sunday night and weeks run from Monday through Sunday.

In the rotisserrie (sp?) leagues, they have a maximum amount of games each position can play.  I was thinking of having a maximum amount of games each "team" can play in a week, say 10, so that will prevent some posters from filling up their roster with players that play three games in a week.  But, I was thinking of just letting posters "draft" whomever they wanted each week (most posters will basically keep the same roster week in and week out).  Does this give those teams an advantage?  In a way, yes...more points possible, rebounds, assists etc.  But, their FG% may be worse and their turnovers will probably be greater, so it goes both ways.  Some guy in one of the NBA leagues has 529 transactions!  So, more power to the guys that take this more seriously, I say.  I look at it like baseball, some managers switch pitchers all the time, trying to get more wins, strikeouts etc...but they can hurt themselves in the WHIP and ERA as well.

This isn't a "draft" league, where once a player is selected, no one else can have him.  It's more like a salary cap league (without a salary cap) where multiple teams can have the same player.  Can you imagine trying to hold a draft?

Anyway, there are three ways to submit your weekly roster:  email me, post it or send me a message through this site.  Trying to figure out the LEAST amount of work for me, I figure all I have to do is make sure everyone has a roster in.

How do you keep score?  That's up to the two opponents.  The two posters are responsible to make sure the stats are correct for their respective opponents and then either or both has to do is email me, post or send me a message on who won.  Old School beat Mr. Ypsi 5-4, for example.  If I send in the "score" and Mr. Ypsi disagrees, he can counter (with proof) what the actual score should be...Mr. Ypsi wins 5-4.  You don't need to tell me who won each category, just tell me the score.

Descrepencies in stats?  Take the players home team stats.  Lawrence page says Braier had 8 rebounds and the Point page says he has 7?  Take the Lawrence stats.  Lawrence stats say Krull had 23 and Point's page says he had 25, take Point's stats.  Got it?

Rosters must be submitted by Sunday night and "scores" from one or both teams that are playing each other must be submitted by Monday night.  Rosters/matchups will be posted on Monday for the week's games and on Tuesday the results from the previous week will be posted.

Neither team get a "score" in?  Both go 0-9.  One team not get a roster in?  They forfeit the week.

This is for dedicated posters only.  Many times I run a pick em league and start out with 30+ and by Christmas, I'm down to 25 and by Feb. I'm down to 20.  We can't have those casual posters wanting to play and then lose interest half way through the season.  I don't want to have teams winning 9-0 each week because 6 teams forfeit.  There is a lot more work into this than just picking games.  Each poster not only has to "fill out" his team's stats, but  also his (or hers) opponent's team's stats to see who wins the weekly matchup.  Hopefully this will weed out most of those posters and we'll have a league size that's managable.

This past season the games started the weekend before Thanksgiving, but it didn't look like the full slate of games started until Thanksgiving week.  I'm also not sure if I want the season to run through the Christmas break, though most teams are playing between Christmas and New Year's.  The season ends about the third week in Feb with conference tourney games the following week.
