The OAC (Mount Union, et al) will play a conference only schedule in football, soccer and volleyball. That means football will play 9 games. Play begins 9/19. Cross country, golf and tennis will play  outside competition. FWIW. 🏈 ⚽️ 🏐  ::)  ;D

Please see my message buried in the above post. Don't know what happened. 🍺

Hi Everybody!
I'm glad we have guests on the NWC board because this uncertainty has slowed our board down.

I haven't been on here this week. Been in the hospital undergoing gender reass  abdominal reconstruction surgery; cut from stem to stern. No lifting even a milk jug for 2 months.

Peace Out!

D O.C.

Hope you're recovering OK! Can you lift a small mug of beer? Just a thought.
You think your board is slow? The OAC board is almost non-existent. I post a lot on the MIAC board. It's pretty lively. Another good one is NESCAC.

Stay safe and stay well. 🍺 😃

"Leinie Lodge" ❓

I've got to get off of this board. You guys have too much inside info!
Of course, I am old and I live in a closet.
(And I really like this board. The OAC board is almost non-existent.)
OK! Maybe I'll stick around for awhile. I appreciate your support. 🍻

Maybe RMC should change their name too. John Randolph was one of the founders of the American Colonization Society in 1816, to send free blacks to a colony in Africa. At the same time, he believed that slavery was a necessity in Virginia, saying, "The question of slavery, as it is called, is to us a question of life and death ... You will find no instance in history where two distinct races have occupied the soil except in the relation of master and slave.

There’s no end to this cancel culture mentality.

If R-MC chooses to examine its name, I would support that. If it chooses to change it's name I would support that as well. One of my alma maters has already changed it's name. The process was difficult, but the result was worth it. It's not about canceling culture. It's about making sure that the person being honored by having his/her name given to a place, building  institution, etc. is fully deserving of that recognition.

I respectfully disagree.  Once RMC officially changes its name then what?  Does RMC give back all the money they’ve received from racist throughout their history?  Do they rename all the streets thru and around campus currently named for former slave owners? Do they rename the town of Ashland which was named for the family farm of slave owner Henry Clay.  If yes then why stop there - Hanover county once had one of the largest enslaved populations in the state. Even the state of Virginia was named in honor of Queen Elizabeth I (The Virgin Queen) who enthusiastically supported the slave trade.

It never ends. It will never be enough for the cancel culture movement.

RMC, WL, HSC and others can embrace who they were, who they are, and where they want to go without trying to erase their past.

JK I respect your story.  He says he would not have gone to a school named after Lee but I assume he had no problem with his grandson attending a school named The University of the South. Sewanee’s early leaders openly embraced a belief in white racial superiority.  A university that has only 4% of its enrollment as black students. 4% of 1750 students is 70!  WL at 2.2% has 50!  The culture needs to change more than the name. Change the name and continue to only bring 12 to 13 black students a year?  Who does that help? What it does do is allow those who make the name change a chance to pat themselves on the back and lie to themselves about all the change they made. While in reality they will have done nothing. If the powers that be at WL said we are changing our name and commit to quadrupling our black students. Then maybe I’d be more open to the change. But changing the name only and continuing with the status quo would be a patronizing move to simply placate the far left radicals that are trying to ruin our country.

HSCTiger fan

I really like your comments. You said what the others are overlooking, namely, it takes more than a name change.
Thank goodness we don't have to worry about a name change at Mount Union. Or do we?
There is probably a Mount "something or other" in the heart of Dixie. And Union? Must be something, somewhere that is offensive!
So many schools with such a rich tradition, that have educated so many, sometimes in perilous times, and have stood the test of time. Sure hope they all survive the politics and the craziness going on.
Good for you HSCTiger fan for what I thought was excellent commentary.
Stay safe and stay well. 🎓 ‼️

Oh! Was worth a +K as well!  ;D

Saw on social media that Rowan will be starting practices end of August. Doesn't give them much time to prep for their first game.

Is this the before-they-go-DI-schedule we are talking about?

Just kidding (sort of...............K.C. Keeler on line #1 just in case ;) )

Ah, K.C. Keeler. There's a name from some Mount Union-Rowan games. I remember the ever-present sun glasses. Even when it wasn't sunny. Kind of his trademark, I guess.
His name pops up every now and then. We all give a little snicker.

On a different subject. How's Wesley doing? Good school with a football program that was good year after year. Always gave Mount fits when they played. Hope they get everything worked out and are able to maintain their own identity.

Thanks for bring up old. K.C. I'll get you for that!
Stay safe and stay well. 😷 🏈 🎓 🍺

Hi Doc

I didn't attempt to weigh the merits of either individual, I just was asking for peace. I really do like both of these guys. Your explanation was, your usual, right on. You went deeper than I did.
Stay safe! 😷   ;D

Please understand my previous post was all in fun.
I have the greatest respect for all the schools in this conference - and Swarthmore as well! I wish Mount Union had the academic reputation your schools have.
I was just having fun. Good luck to all! 🎓 🏈

"Yalumba"  ???

A Mount Union alum and you're gonna let the Swat alum claim the national championship? C'mon now!

That slipped by me! Actually, Mount was looking good for the National championship. But, where would we have put the trophy. Our 13 National  championship trophies in football take up a lot of room, as well as our numerous Gagliardi awards, Melberger awards, awards for number 1 team in offense, defense, total yards, etc., etc., etc.!
Apologies for sounding arrogant, SpringSt7 forced me into it.
(By the way, SpringSt7, you get a +K as well for the inspiration)!
Go everybody! 🎓 🏈 🍺

I would like to thank all the other conference / region posters for coming on here and filling up our pages - especially you Master Copy and Pasters.

I'm not trying to read tone into this, but it seems like a dig. Am I correct in reading this as a "get off 'our board'" statement?

I wasn't making a judgment about whether the ruling is right or wrong, but just that this has been and will increasingly be a flashpoint. It's why I tried to post articles from both sides of the issue.

Apologies DOC if outside posters aren't welcome on the NWC board. I'll assume you won't be posting on the MIAC board in the future as well  ???

Now, children. I like both of you guys and read all your posts.
Can't we all just get along? 🍺 🍺

I give you a +K as well. Good stuff. I think I must live in a closet. But I am a Mount Union alumnus. And I'm old (see signature below). Those two probably explain my liking lots of these comments, even if at odds with each other. The OAC board is really dead. This board is a good one - as is the MIAC board.
Anyhow, I'm for everybody. Let's get back to education and have a resumption of our athletics. 🎓 🏈

If any of the people complaining about the so-called "politicizing" of this board want to actually discuss football, by all means, please do so.  So far as I can see, not one of you complaining has mentioned an actual football player, formation, strategy, statistic, etc. for many months.  Especially rich coming from ColbyFootball, who was the one who actually introduced this entire line of discussion here on the board.  So I think what you are really upset about is that someone is disagreeing with your preferred take on non-football matters, not that they are being discussed at all.

SpringSt7 has periodically tried to provide some interesting football-related content (including some great statistical analysis) and no one seemed to take the bait.  So I'm hardly the only one "guilty" of talking about non-football matters here.  Moreover, I seem to recall near-endless discussions on this board related to complaints about all manner of "woke" culture at NESCAC schools from the generally-conservative posters on this board (and trust me, you are just as annoying discussing these topics as you find people you disagree with discussing other topics), and that conversation often drowns out discussion of ACTUAL football being played.  There is also PLENTY of discussion right now on the basketball board that has nothing to do with basketball, again, being driven by posters with their own agendas.  And that is fine!  There's nothing sports-related happening at all right now, and in any event, we live in a world in which sports are not divorced from race, the coronavirus, and other matters of political import.  Right now, there is no football, and may be no football for many, many months.  Trust me, I'm just as starved, if not moreso, to discuss sports rather than all of this mess.  It's a hell of a lot more fun.  So again, by all means, instead of whining, just introduce a football-related topic to discuss.  Or, respond to one posted by someone else ...

And with that, I'm done, happy to be through with this waste of time and I trust others who find the discussion so offensive will do the same.  See ya'll whenever there is an actual football season.  I hope it's sooner rather than later.  But I trust, either way, that NESCAC schools will make a responsible call that balances the very difficult competing concerns at play here, and will ignore the haters who love to second guess any call they make under impossibly uncertain conditions.

That's worth a +K. Nice to see some sanity on the boards. The type of discussion you mentioned HAS appeared elsewhere, not just on your board.
Yes, I follow most boards. The OAC board seems to be out for a long lunch. Good luck in the fall to all our teams.  ;D

Longtime JCU SID Chris Wenzler passed away today after a 2+ battle with cancer.  Those who had the opportunity to know Chris will agree that he was a good man and a mentor to so many students at JCU that it would be impossible to calculate the number of lives he touched.

Sorry to hear about Chris. I talked to him numerous times at OAC Media Day. He seemed like a very nice guy. I'm sure he had lots of friends.
Rest-in-Peace Blue Streak! ✝

NFL also stands for "No Fun League", but you already knew that.  ::)  ;D
