Congratulations from a Centre supporter to Pomona-Pitzer and the SCIAC on getting through to the round of 16.  One very well executed play to pull out the victory!

Heck of a finish @ Emory tonight as Pomona-Pitzer shocks Emory with a buzzer-beating 3 pointer from the left corner to win 71-70.  The Sagehens executed the final play beautifully with 2.8 seconds left after Emory went up by 2.  They heaved a perfect half court pass calling a timeout with 2.2 seconds remaining.  They then rubbed Jack Boyle off a screen to enable him to get a high arching shot off with solid Eagle defensive pressure & he swished it as the red light came on.  Centre takes some consolation from getting beaten Friday night by the team who will be going to the Sweet 16 from the Atlanta pod. March Madness at its finest!

My bad.  Centre finished their season in the early game (5 pm ET) against Pomona-Pitzer as the Sagehens prevailed 84-64.  Colonels were outshot & outplayed today.  Pomona-Pitzer scorched the nets @ 57% and were even more efficient from the arc going 11-18.  On the opposite end Centre struggled from the three making 5-26.  Perry Ayers finished his career with a 19 point effort, followed by Jakob Spitzer with 15 and Jacob Bates had 10.

Centre goes to Emory and plays Pomona-Pitzer on Friday 03/06 in the 1st round.  Centre technically is a #2 seed in at this site.  Colonels with a win Friday night would be matched up Saturday against the winner of Emory and Methodist.  Friday night start time is 7:30 PM CT.

Thank goodness Centre doesn’t have to sweat out a Pool C crapshoot in pulling out an SAA tournament championship win this afternoon over Berry 72-69.  Very competitive game with Berry overcoming an 18-point deficit early to tie the game 36-36 going into the half.  The Vikings continued their momentum coming out in the 2nd half building leads of 6-8 points several times before Centre was able to finally convert a couple of key 3’s.  The Berry interior defense was exceptional much of the game as they frustrated Centre time and again.  Centre essentially made just enough 3’s (13) to win.  The only negative for Berry in the game besides the final score was 5 of 15 free throw shooting.  Perry Ayers led the Colonels with 23 points and 5 triples.  Berry’s Austin Brooks tallied 18.  Fine coaching from both sides was in evidence today.

It was truly a struggle at Centre today but the Colonels defended well in the 2nd half in winning 85-77.  Perry Ayers scored 24 2nd half points to tally 26 for the game. Jacob Bates chipped in with 22 points and 8 rebounds for Centre.  Rhodes played a solid 40 minutes with huge contributions from 2 of their freshmen Wiley and Essick. Today’s win enables the Colonels to host next week’s semis/finals where they will be matched up against a hot Millsaps crew which toppled #4 seed Oglethorpe in Atlanta earlier today.

Centre is struggling to contain Rhodes in the quarterfinals.  The Lynx lead 43-35 at halftime on the strength of 77% FG shooting.  Rhodes has uncharacteristically played nearly turnover free basketball so far.  Centre will need to muster much better defense in the 2nd half to avoid an upset and a fast exit for the season.

Centre takes it on the chin again this afternoon @ Oglethorpe 81-79.  The Stormy Petrels hit a layup @ the buzzer to extend the Colonels losing streak to 2.  Colonels will drop from their top 25 ranking based on two tough road losses.  The story for Centre was poor free throw shooting which has bit them in both games this weekend.   Hendrix is losing today at half by 20 at Millsaps so Centre can actually maintain a 2-game conference lead with a Hendrix loss and only 1 game remaining in the regular season.

Centre picked up a good road win tonight @ Berry 49-44.  Kat Wilson tallied 20 followed by Ellen Hicks with 10.  This win was based on the Colonels winning the 4th quarter.  The team is now tied with Rhodes for 2nd place in the conference at 8-4.  Lady Colonels take on conference leader Oglethorpe on Sunday.

Berry eliminated Centre’s 13-game winning streak with a 60-58 victory in a defensive tussle. The Colonels had a second half of missed opportunities - 12 turnovers and 55% free throw shooting didn’t help.  Berry ironically made critical foul shots down the stretch.  Centre plays at Oglethorpe Sunday.  OU lost a heartbreaker at the buzzer tonight on a Sewanee 3-pointer so they’ll be ready for when the Colonels come calling.

Centre tops Birmingham Southern 70-55 for their 12th consecutive win.  Perry Ayers leads the way with 18 points on the strength of four 3-pointers. Jacob Bates had another double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Colonels (10-1) end the night with a 2-game SAA lead over Hendrix (7-3) which defeated Oglethorpe 75-71.  Centre is at home Sunday playing Millsaps who lost to Sewanee tonight 98-91.

Colonels earned their 11th consecutive win @ Rhodes today 98-76.  The team shot better than 50% from the field and 16-27 from deep.   Art Walker knocked down 5 threes in leading Centre with 23.  Walker also reached the 1,000 point club for his Centre career.  Dawson Crump had 20 followed by Jacob Bates’ 18 and 16 tossed in by Perry Ayers.  It was a much different game for Centre than the slug out with Hendrix on Friday with “offense” the key phrase in this one.

Centre earned another solid road win in conference over Hendrix tonight 72-56.  The score isn’t indicative of how tight the game was throughout as there were numerous ties and lead changes in this one.  Perry Ayers and Jacob Bates both tallied similar stat lines in the victory - 18 points and 8 boards each.  While defense reigned tonight for both squads, Centre won the game on the strength of forcing 19 turnovers and out rebounding the Warriors by 12.  It looked as if Hendrix got tired in the final few minutes which allowed Centre to expand the victory margin.  Colonels now head to Rhodes for a Sunday afternoon tilt.   They currently have a 17-2 overall mark and 7-1 in conference which gives them a 2 game lead over 3 other teams - Berry, Hendrix and Oglethorpe.
