Kicker had 3 tries to make 2 and there would have been no overtime (3 to make 1 with OT). He went 0-3 down the stretch. How should they have won by 2 scores exactly? Unless you are counting our DB's falling down on 2 long TD passes, something they didn't do all year. Doesn't matter, we didn't do enough to win.

Actually, I am counting all of it.  DBs falling down, missed kicks, six penalties (including a terrible one after the touchdown and a worse one on the first missed PAT), two fumbles lost.  Team effort.  I can't look at that game and pin the loss all on one kid.  The Crusaders had the better team, were at home, and let loose with a stinker.

I watched the Cru look very beatable against Hardin Simmons in the regular season, I know itís just one game but that just didnít look like a stagg bowl UMHB team like Iíd seen in the past.

Kovo is referring to the Wheaton Crusaders (Thunder)

Congrats to Jesse Scott on becoming the next Head Coach for Wheaton Football! Besides Jesse's success as OC for the past 4 years, the thing that stands out to me the most is his work as recruiting coordinator since 2013. I think there's been a noticeable & undeniable uptick in talent on the Wheaton roster the past 6-7 years that has afforded the team tremendous depth that just wasn't there in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. Wheaton's ability to "plug and play" if a #1 goes down has been impressive and been a key reason for its continued success. I'm excited to see what Wheaton Football can do with Jesse at the helm... Let's Roll!

Totally agree about the recruiting.  I feel like Wheaton was definitely behind NCC for a few years in overall talent but starting we the Peltz/Bowers 2013 class Wheaton has pulled even talent wise.

Mount was quite a bit faster than Wheaton.  I'll be surprised if it's Jesse Scott at this point.

Haha, great post!  Swider always did remind me a steroid-free Ultimate Warrior (moment of silence).

For the Wheaton HC spot I expect a former Wheaton player to be named.  Probably mid Jan to Feb 1 timeframe.  Among those I have heard tossed around (alphabetical order)

Pedro Aruzza, RMC HC
Rick Fox, former Drake HC
Tim Hardy, HC at Greater Atlanta Christian HS in Atlanta
Neal Nertherly, DC Eastern Michigan
Rod Sandberg, Whitworth HC
Jesse Scott, Current OC at Wheaton
Andy Studebaker, 8 yr NFL LB.

I would expect the next HC to be one of these guys. Realistically itís probably a small subset of this list who are actual candidates.

Is Studebaker coaching somewhere now?

Currently a director with NFLPA.

Jordan Langs?  Heís got a good job now but so do Hardy/Studebaker and others. I gotta think coming back to Wheaton would mean something to them.  I saw Langs in the stands as a spectator at Wheaton playoff games.

I think there is also a good chance they already have the next coach selected.  JR Bishop stepped down in his late 50's (easily could have kept the head job longer) to give way to Mike Swider who had already been earmarked for the job.  Swider could clearly keep the job for another 5+ years if he wanted but seems like he wants to do what's best for the program and I'm guessing he (and admin) has the next person in mind.

I think itís Jordan Langs if he wants it. I donít however think he leaves IWU.

Agree it's Langs if he wants it 100%.   I don't think Langs will be at Indiana Wesleyan long.   He has done a pretty amazing job there and has potential to be a D1 coach someday (or the Wheaton job for life).  He reminds me of a less over-the-top version of PJ Fleck.

I'd be shocked if the job doesn't end up going to a former Wheaton player.

Pretty cool that half the games this Saturday are about 20 minute drive apart.

With HS football over as of Saturday and the Bears playing the Cowboys Thursday night, these may be the only 2 games in the state of Illinois this weekend.

It's really too bad they can't stagger the start times.  I'd be at both games for sure.

It would be great to see Mike Swider take a team to the Stagg in the twilight of his career.

That's for sure.  Though I believe Swider is 64, he is as effective as a coach now as he has ever been. I wouldn't be surprised he becomes the Tom Brady of coaching longevity.

Late 1st Q:

Wheaton 35
Wash U 0

After last year's debacle, let's just say Wheaton made sure it wasn't close this year... the stats say it all. Anthony averaged over 20 yards per completion, Williams 13.3 yards per rush, and the defense smushed the Bears into a fine powder.

It seems the bus carrying the WashU reserves arrived in Wheaton on time today, but the bus containing the starters encountered mechanical problems, and didnít arrive until the beginning of the 4th quarter. The starters then entered the game and scored all 13 of the Bears points. 🤗

Well you are correct as it was the WashU 1's in through the 4th quarter with Johnny Davidson et al. scoring on the Wheaton 3's.

Thanks, Greg.  Sorry to hear about NPU's injuries.

Just to clarify Swider wasn't at all lamenting for his team, he said he just felt bad for the kids who went down as it sounded like something career ending to a senior similar to Spencer Peterson.

Missed the Wheaton NPU game today.   Saw Swider mention a few key injuries that were "hard to swallow".    Sounds like season-ending and he was pretty down.   Anyone at the game have more info?   Greg?

Tyler Sigler is getting a contract with the Cardinals.   Noted at the bottom of the article below:

Gotta think UWP doubles Francis in the 2nd?   That was fun to watch.
